Marvel Publishing Update

Well, the current climate gravitates heavily toward event-type stories. When that starts to change, Marvel will change the types of stories and way they tell their stories to reflect that. It's been happening since comic books were introduced to the American public.

Actually Marvel's profits come more from their licensing deals than comics.

DC even more so. In the 70s Superman comics were actually losing money, but they kept publishing them because they made so much on the marketing deals with Toys and T-shirts and cartoons and stuff.

Yeah, DC sucks. Their characters are intangible to the common reader; they're more infallible; Marvel characters have depth, they have faults and foibles we can all relate to. Down with DC!! Long live Marvel!!

The common response of somebody who hasn't read a damn thing in his miserable life.

Yes I know the numbers don't lie,but I just can't stand zombies.

From reports I've seen since I've been reading monthlies,it's pretty clear that Marvel has been dominating for quite some time now.Last month however was probably the worst for DC it's ever been.

I just hope DC gets its act together around the time or after Final Crisis hits.

I doubt it. DC's slipping because its made a bunch of *****ups over the past year. All the good momentum they gained in 2003-2004 was dashed as soon as Infinite Crisis started having fill in artists...then came OYL....then late books, lame countdown, messed up continuity, etc. The most one can say about marvel right now is that they dont know how to write their own characters anymore...

I think it'll be worth holding onto Birds of Prey. I'm very excited to see what Sean McKeever will bring to the book.

And what about Checkmate, the Flash, Green Lantern, Justice Society of America, Superman, Batman, Green Lantern Corps, Manhunter? Those books are awesome at the moment.

Plus Teen Titans and Wonder Woman will be cool again with McKeever and Simone entering those books.

There's too much back story and history involved in Checkmate, GL, and so on. I mean, come on, Bart Allen is dead? Another Flash bites the dust? Now with the Sinestro Corps formed I think the GL Corps should be the pre-imminent super group, not this JLA stuff. But it's too convoluted now to re-invest in all these characters again. :csad: Books like the "His Dark Materials" trilogy are much more accessible to new readers.

I could say the failing concept of redemption is a travesty in these comics. That's one thing I don't like about the current trend. If it's a hero who fell, eventually he or she will come back. But if it's a villain seeking redemption, most likely he/she will return to being a villain anyway.

The two greatest things marvel have going for them are called Ed Brubaker and Dan Slott.

Spidey is not the only case of Marvel characterization. Most any other character right now is being written properly. I can agree with some that Tony and Steve weren't quite written very well during Civil War, but Tony has always been oblivious to the details of his plans and Steve has been Millar's whipping boy in The Ultimates for a while now. Reed's not a great example- he's always been like that. They just never really bothered to beef up the logic in his reasoning.

I understand that, and it's kind of the point I was trying to make: that whatever success they're having in comics doesn't exactly translate into success on the stock market.

But remember that it is the comics, and more immediately the movies, that ultimately drive how often much and for how much they can license out their characters.

It was changed from it's original flame bait title, nothing more was done.

Yeah and changed to a flame baiting title back at me. That was not my intention I was just excited to see this. I put it in the Marvel forums not the DC forums. The point of my thread was not that Marvel is making money but to show how much they're domniating the charts by such a large margin. If you could change the title to "Marvel Publishing Update"

Errr the title has nothing to do with you,it's a title completely indicative of the topic,Marvel is making a lot of money, maybe if you didn't cause so many problems and judge everyone by your style you wouldn't be so paranoid,I'll change it though.

Thanks for changnig the title...and thanks for putting personal comments about me and all my enemies in your post. :)

^ C'mon Hunter put away the daggers. You've always busted on me for having an investment in Marvel and suggested my posts are influenced by my investments. That's why I thought you changed the title to that. FYI that couldn't be further from the truth. The reason I invested in companies like Marvel, Activision, Hasbro, Time Warner, and Newscorp is because I love this industry. My decision to invest in Marvel was because I love the characters and have enjoyed them since the 70's.

Like i said in my post, you have cultivated a lot of enemies here so you judged the title change by that standard and not by the fact that if i have anything to say to you on a personal level i will do so up front.

Hunter, bring sexy back.
