Should Darkseid appear as a villain in a Superman movie, a Justice League movie or a New Gods movie?

I would go with a Justice League movie, I don't think a Superman movie is an epic enough venue for Darkseid and I think there is a snowball's chance in hell they will make a New Gods movie, so that leaves a Justice League movie.

If Star Wars can be successful, a movie whose premise is pretty ridiculous btw, why cant the New Gods get a successful movie? Because its a comic book and "comics books are for kids"? The New Gods arent any more ridiculous than space monks with laser swords.
IMHO, if they simply take the source material and apply it on screen, and with some good marketing, a New Gods movie could be successful.
If not, the New Gods could appear in a Superman or JL movie. For example in the DCAU (DC Animated Universe of BTAS, STAS, JLU, B:Beyond) they were first introduced in a double episode of STAS. From then on they appeared again on STAS, JL, and JLU.

Because New Gods doesn't have the same name recognition that Superman or the Justice League has, heck they haven't been able to maintain their own comic for a good length of time, there is no New gods title now. WB isn't going to spend a ton of money on a comic that has no almost brand recognition. New gods would be far more expensive then Blade for example.

Plus its never good to saturate the market, by trying to flood the market with every comic book ever created, instead of focusing on your strongest brands. If you put too many comic book movies out there, you run the risk people getting sick of them, that's why you likely will not have a New Gods movie. So if Darkseid is going to show up, it will either be in a Superman or Justice League movie.

Neither did Star Wars when it first came out, name recognition that is.
And I know Lord of the Rings was a book first, but it wasn't as widely known as the movie became, plus New Gods is a series of books too.

I say makje a New Gods movie, like a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars epic. A 4 part epic, since they are from the 4th world.
Kirby intended to make an epic comic like the LOTR books, so why not make the movie similar too.
Just make it seperate from the other stories and from Earth. Everyone wears brightly colored armor and such, so no one looks silly.
Darkseid is the bad guy, Orion is the hero.
We also have Mr. Miracle Barda and Oberon.
As well as various other 4th world characters.

DC won't make a New Gods movie. DC just doesn't have the confidence in it's own properties, especially after the Superman Returns debacle.

I think Batman and Green Lantern will be the only main DC characters who hit the movies in the next 10 years.

They could make it after their big movies are out, after Batman and Green Lantern are so successful that they decide to try and make movies out of all their characters. Like Marvel did with Iron Man.
By the way, Iron Man was relativly unknown at first too, and look how well that did.

Jack Kirby never intended it to continue forever, I don't think. It had an ending. But because of low sales (because it was too ahead of its time) the book was canceled before the end and Kirby was asked to come in later to finish it. So he came up with a different ending. So that is why it hasn't maintained a comic, I don't think it was intended to go on forever.
By the way, Iron Man was a relatively unknown to the public character as well. And look how well it did.
Plus, a comic unknown by the public at large could translate well because it wouldn't have the stigma of being labeled a "Comic Book Movie".

Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby for the New Gods. Thats where I think he should be used, first anyway.
Darkseid was such a popular character that he was used in Superman cartoons and toys, and that could draw in the crowd to the New Gods movies.

Yea I know Iron Man wasn't well known. But MARVEL had the confidence and the belief to give him a movie.

The same can't be said for DC. For years and years and years it's just been Batman and Superman. Only now are they branching out with Green Lantern.

totally i think darkseid could work for both new gods and for superman.

Iron Man was more well know then the new Gods, Iron Man has been mentioned on Seinfeld and Ghost Face Killah has used the alias Tony Stark, because he likes Iron Man so much. This was before the movie, I have never heard of anyone make a new gods pop culture reference, ever.

Also the reason star Wars did well despite not being a brand name, was because the space opera was new and fresh back in the 70s, the new Gods doing it now would seem a bit old hat at this point.

The only new Gods character anyone outside of comic fans is familiar with is Darkseid, but that's because he appeared in the Super Friends, Superman and Justice League cartoons, not because of his association with the new Gods.

New Gods is in no way comparable to Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings is one of the best selling series of books of the 20th Century, translated the world over, and a perennial for over 50 years. New Gods has never been much more than a mid-tier comic book seller. Lord of the Rings is comparable in general knowledge to the likes of The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, A Christmas Carol, Twilight, and Harry Potter.

Yeah, New Gods could be successful. But, it will have to succeed on its own merits, not because there's prior knowledge of them out there.

I didn't even know what The New Gods was until I looked it stumbled across it on the internet, and that was AFTER I had already been familiar with Superman: TAS. It's one of the most obscure "popular" DC books out there and pretty much only fans know what it is. I think that Darkseid is a much more likely candidate for a JLA movie than he would be for a New Gods movie, because New Gods has a snowball's chance in hell of actually getting made into a movie (unless it's a prequel of a Justice League movie, if Darkseid proves to be wildly popular).

Wasn't Darkseid going to be used as the villain for the proposed Wonder Twins movie back in the early '90's [EDIT: 2002?]?.....I think I read something like that at the old comics2film.com.

Anyway, true on not, that was a terrible idea!

I agree with you. They should introduce Darkseid, Apocolips and the rest of the 5th world in a Superman or JL movie.
Ideally, Darkseid first invades earth in a Superman movie, and Superman repels it. Then in a JL film, the whole League fights against a full scale attack from Apocolips.

Well if they didnt make the plot so stupid and if Superman wasnt a silent doll lifting rocks, maybe the film would have been successful. Why do they do this? Why do they write these awful stories as if the character doesnt have this rich material in the comics?

Do you guys know that they were about to shoot a Superman-Batman movie? They had a poster on top of a building in the "I am Legend" movie. So do you know what the plot was going to be? Here:
Goldsman's draft (dated June 21, 2002), had the premise of Bruce Wayne trying to shake all of the demons in his life after his five year retirement of crime fighting. Meanwhile, Clark Kent is down on his luck and in despair. Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon are all dead and Clark has just recently divorced Lois Lane. Clark serves as Bruce's best man at his wedding to the beautiful and lovely Elizabeth Miller. After Elizabeth is killed by the Joker at the honeymoon, Bruce is forced to don the Batsuit once more, tangling a plot which involves Lex Luthor, while Clark sways with a romance with Lana Lang in Smallville.

And if you think this is stupid, dont read the script Abraams had proposed for his Superman film, or you ll have a stroke!

Why dont they follow the canon stories and add a spin to them or something? Why is Gordon dead, why did Superman divorce the love of his life, why does Luthor have superpowers (Abraams script), why all this crap? Did they really have nowhere else to take the characters, or is it that they dont give a **** about them?

yea darkseid in a superman movie and then a stopping a full scale invasion for jl would be a nice way to handle things.

If the Fourth World is planned for the big screen then they have to hold him for that.

Otherwise I see no problem for him to appear in either a Superman or JLA movie

hmmm i would perferbably like to get an actor/stunt guy in full makeup/body suit like hellboy, and then just have some cgi ehancements added in.

Get Peter Jackson to do for New Gods what he did for Lord of the Rings and you'll have gold.

Again I doubt WB will pour a Lord of the rings budget into a New gods movie, simply because the New Gods are not a fraction as popular as LoTR.

Also should Darkseid be CGI or a guy in makeup?
A guy in a suit/makeup, plus CGI. Darkseid is a lot bigger than a man, so they'd have to CGI him to make him look bigger.
And yeah, cast Michael Ironside for the role (he voiced him in STAS). You wont find a better voice for it!
Get Peter Jackson to do for New Gods what he did for Lord of the Rings and you'll have gold.
Holy crap you are right! It would be amazing!

You are right as well... unfortunately.

Which is why Peter Jackson must be the director for it to bring some media attention to it.

That has a snowball's chance in Hell of happening though.

Why would Peter Jackson care about the New gods, they are not very popular and I doubt he has heard of them, unlike LoTR which is far, far more popular then new gods before it became a movie. Why would Peter Jackson want to make New Gods movie and why would WB want to shell out the cash for that?

The only New God who is popular at at all is Darkseid and that's because of his appearances in the Superman and Justice League cartoons, not because of the New Gods. If Dasrkseid is going to appear on the silver screen, it won't be in a New Gods film.

If they do Darkseid in make-up, they better make sure that his face is 'stone like'.

Since most non-comic fans dont know about Darkseid.I think its best to have him go toe to toe against Supes in nothing but one hell of a CGI brawl to make us all druel.

well darkseid wouldnt need to be a full cgi creation. A good person to person fight would look a whole of a heck better then a person fighting a cgi creation.
