What should Marvel do to the Ultimate Universe?

  • Change/improve the creative teams. (Bryan Singer on UXM, M.Millar back on UFF)

  • Add more ongoing books (Ultimate Hulk, Ultimate Knights, Ultimate Wolverine)

  • Make things in the universe finite. Let it have an end.

  • Restart or reboot every decade to keep it fresh.

  • Eliminate the entire universe since its outlived its purpose now.

  • Eliminate all books except Ultimate Spidey since its the only one gaining more fans over the years.

Let the Universe end, since only Ultimate Spider-Man ever really caught on with fans.Bring the Ultimate readers to Marvel 616.

My suggestion is reduce the books to Ultimates, Ultimate X-men, Ultimates Spidey, and Ultimates FF. Have all of the books out on time and published regularly and keep the "homage" characters along with continuity problems to a minimum.

Honestly, I'm starting to think - in terms of quality - UXM should just be canceled. It really hasn't been that good since it's first arc.

At least with USM and UFF, while you have some bad arcs, you also have some pretty good - even great - arcs as well. Although I would love to see UFF get a new, better, creative team. Even bringing Millar back.

The Ultimate Universe is supposed to be different. The biggest thing I think it's guilty of doing right now it mimicing some 616 stories. Different means different!

Scott doesn't HAVE to be with Jean
Doom and Reed don't have to hate each other
Spidey and MJ don't have to be together

etc...

Nah, the point was to start over not totally do away with the characters history. I remember when they first started the Ultimate line and to purpose was simply to bring the MU into the present.

Minor tweaks are fine, but to me it shouldn't be drastic.

Dude, the tweaks are getting very drastic. Take Cable's story for instance.

Yes, everyone was up in arms about Galactus and Doom.

Because they weren't Galactus or Doom.

Yeah that sucked balls, I'm not for changes as ******ed as that. My rule of thumb with the changes in the Ultimate U is rather than random changes it should be a more natural or realistic update for example: A lot of Marvels Black superheroes are kind of burdened with a lot of them (At least the early guys like Falcon) stereotypical backgrounds instead of Snap Wilson the criminal and origins that far kind of laughable or convoluted such Red Skull giving a blackman the ability to talk to a bird, I like what was done with Sam by making him a seasoned SHIELD agent.

Or how Cap's origin was tweaked by making him an actual rank of Captain in the Marines and not some lowly private. It should be a more realistic take on the character or the consolidation of the essence of the character with out the dated 1960s fluff which was great for it's time, but makes no sense today or is hard to believe with a more learned and soficsticated readership. Add to the fact the average person probaly knows more about science and basic knowledge than Stan lee and his generation. Every Tom, Dick and Harry getting power via 'Radiation or a Gamma Bomb' is kinda old hat and frankly hard to swallow now. If Peter was gonna get spider powers in 2007 it would more likely and better still more in tune with today if it was through genetic engineering.

The 'tweak' has to make sense or at the very least be in line with modern sensibilities, that's the point of the UU to me.

Honestly, I think part of Ultimate MU's problem is they're now trying to Ultimatize EVERYONE.

I love Moon knight as much as the next guy but part of the MU's problem is all these non-iconic guys running around new york.

I thought the Ultimates were designed simply to bring young people back to comics? At least that's what the introductions say in the compilation volumes I'm reading at the moment. The young theme is everywhere: All heroes are young, the teenage pop culture references are on every page, although they feel like the type of references that insult kids, not people who actually write from the viewpoint of an 18 year old. I laughed in UXM when Jean Grey made a comment about Iceman acting like someone who couldn't play Metal Gear Solid. I may not be 16 anymore, but I know very few hot chicks in high school who knew the names of video games, no matter what console was hot at the time. I also can't help but laugh when they throw in an Eminem comment or something that really only seems like it's there to impress their supposed younger fanbase instead of feeling like it fits in :D

I think Spider-Man is the one that works the best because Spider-Man was really always meant to be a young person's point of view, just like it is in the movies. I've really enjoyed the first 20+ issues or so I've read of USM, although I've also gotten a kick out of the UXM, it's just that none of the X-Men feel like teenagers, especially the traditional leaders such as Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and company. They have the maturity of full-grown adults, which goes back to my issue that I think Spider-Man is the only that really gets away with the new "young feel." I also like how the Ultimates seem to change the traditional Marvel storylines around the most which is what I wish the other ones would do more often. Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Nick Fury, Captain America & the Pyms... they all have some awesome new storylines in the Ultimate universe. (Or maybe I just don't remember those stories in their old Marvel issues. :csad: )
