Homecoming What should they do with the Spidey franchise? - Part 2

I prefer Peter. Hes the original and has the most stories to tell. Not to mention for a lot of people, myself included, Peter is what makes Spider-man so great.

The reason I ask that is because General audiences have see two different iterations of Peter in the past decade, and only 2/5 instances were well received. However unlikely, Miles could provide a fresh start.

I see where you're coming from. I jut disagree. It would be fresh, just not as intresting imo. Peter has a lot more character history and stories to pull from.

We haven't had a Peter Parker done by Marvel Studios though. No way would Marvel pass up the iconic character and go straight to the one the general audience has never heard of.

This franchise going to Marvel is going to be a fresh start. They know how to handle their characters.

Lol, if Marvel gets Spider-Man back their gonna flaunt that fact all over SDCC.

Putting this here as well, since it belongs more in this thread:

My first hope would be to have Andrew Garfield as Spider-man and the two films he has been a part of to be cannon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's perfect in the role and even with mediocre writing has become definitive in the part. However, with that looking unlikely --

CAST YOUNG. Use the Harry Potter model. Young, cheap, talented unknowns. Get them young and controllable. Lock them for 8-9 picture deals and take the new series slow. Build to the stories you want to get to (Venom/Symbiote, Death of Gwen Stacy, Sinister Six, Goblin legacy). Keep him in high school for 3-4 films. Cast a 15-16 year old. Have Peter, Gwen, Harry, MJ, Flash, Liz, Eddie Brock etc all in the films from the start. Can even use Spectacular Spider-man as a template of how to successfully build the world. Treat Norman Osborn like Harry Potter did Snape. Cast an acclaimed actor in the role with promise of future pay off.

There's no reason that Spider-man can't be done in an episodic saga-like franchise, much like the Harry Potter film series.

It just makes sense. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield -- both quality actors ... but neither were A-List, Box Office draws. The star is SPIDER-MAN. Treat it as such. Save money on the cast by casting 15-16 year olds to play 15-16 year olds. This will give the series the credibility as well as the longevity that it will need to tell the stories they want to tell without things appearing rushed or crammed.

Also, introducing all the major players in the first film or two would make for a less crowded feel.

Doc Ock shows up in film 2? Well, we saw him as Osborn's lab assistant in film 1.

Eddie Brock gets the black suit and becomes Venom in film 4? Well, we saw him work beside Peter in an internship at the Bugle and saw their friendship deteriorate from friendly rivalry to bitter dispute.

Norman Osborn becomes the Green Goblin in film 3? Well, we saw him introduced as a mentor and father figure to Peter's best friend in the films 1 and 2, so their battle will have more emotional weight. As will Gwen's death.

The Green Goblin reappears in film 5, making audiences fear Norman has returned from the grave? It's even more shocking when it's revealed to be Harry because we've GROWN with the character for 4 films.

When Mary Jane and Peter get together in film 4 it will be EARNED because we will have seen MJ go from the party girl in the first 3 films to becoming sobered and more human after Gwen's death. And Peter and MJ go from friends and confidants to something more.

After introducing various villains, the Sinister Six can be introduced organically and not in a rushed, perfunctory fashion.

I just need to ask something. Why do people hate andrew garfield's take on spidey so much? I don't think tobey maguire was universally loved although his movies were considered better, but what is it about garfield that's so bad that you wouldn't want him in the mcu?

Pascal's grammar and spelling is worse than the worst offenders on here. No wonder there's so many problems - nobody can understand a word she writes!

With all five movies the things I liked most and the thing I disliked most.
SM
Liked - The final climax
Hated - The goblin costume

SM2
Liked - Just about everything but I like the train fight most
Hated - nothing, but the love story was very heavy handed

SM3
Liked - The fights in act 1 and act 2.
Hated - absolutely HATED the climax. I actually checked out at the end. Me (one of Spidey's biggest fans), checking out of a Spider-Man movie.

ASM
Liked - Spider-Man. I liked him a lot. Maguire's Spider-Man was practically a mute.
Disliked - Lizard. Very one note.

ASM2 - Spider-Man. Again.
Disliked - Rhino. HATED him.

So if you take the best elements of both trilogies you get the perfect Spider-Man movie.

You take the wit and humour of Spider-Man from the Amazing series.
You take the more rounded villains (but not the costumes) from the Raimi series.
You leave the romance from both series on the shelf because it is played out now.
You take the kinetic action from the Raimi series.
You take the story telling and pacing from the Raimi.

Basically you would have the action, story telling and pacing from the Raimi movies. You would develop the villains like in the Raimi movies and they would have good motivations for doing what they are doing. You'd leave out the romance, cast someone who is maybe a little geekier than Garfield but who has Garfield's comic timing and mannerisms in the Spider-Man costume.
Do that and you'd have the perfect Spider-Man movie.

They were memos to herself. Is the crime with her or the people who are reading her private thoughts? I read her memos and felt dirty afterwards.

I really hope the Sony Japanese division get on the phone to Sony Pictures and talk some freaking sense to them. In case anyone missed it, there was a 60/40 split on the table with production cost and revenue with Marvel paying the bigger slice (and getting more of the back end, obviously).

Therefore;
If Marvel and Sony made a 200m movie, Sony would only have to front 80m but if (as you'd expect) the movie went on to make a 1b Sony would take a 400m.

If I were the chairman of Sony I would want answers as to why SP walked away from the deal and if the reason was because Sony wanted to retain the right to make Spider-Man's costume more blue I would fire that person.

Also let's be clear;
Marvel CREATED Spider-Man
Spider-Man is Marvel's number one selling comic
Spider-Man is Marvel's biggest merchandising seller

So why would Marvel jeopardize that with making poor creative decisions?

How awesome would it be if Marvel made a Spider-Man movie (if it happened) and Daredevil made a cameo

It's a tough choice who is Spider-Man's best team u buddy, Daredevil or Human Torch.
Since Spidey teaming up with Torch can't ever happen in live action then a Daredevil team up would be awesome.

Then imagine if Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin made the jump to the big screen to take on Spidey in some shape. :STR:

You guys are going to be the death of me.. PLEASE SONY MAKE THE DEAL!!

Sony knows everything is out there. Garfield (supposedly) fired. Recasting Spidey regardless. Rebooting Spidey regardless of the MCU and Garfield.

I dare them to announce a rebooted Spider-Man that isn't joining the MCU. They do that and there will be legitimate riots inside and out of that Sony building.

The MCU is they're only hope at this point. I don't mind them collaborating with Marvel on one hand, but on the other they apparently still have that 60/40 deal with Marvel (sounded more like 80/20 in those new emails).

Either way, the MCU is going to be brought up A LOT in that summit next month. Oh boy, I can't wait.

The talks of him being in Cap 3 sound über serious. I do think there's a huge, huge chance he'll be in there at this point.
