Ghosthouse (aka La casa 3 ~ 1988)
A mysterious radio signal draws an amateur radio ham and his girlfriend to an old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. There they find four teenagers (all clearly in their mid to late twenties!) exploring the old place. Before long the 'teens' are getting bumped off in a bizarre plot involving time-travelling radio messages, a double-murder twenty years ago, a demented caretaker, a phantom doberman dog, historical grave-robbing, and the ghost of a little girl - and her evil clown doll.
It's an Italian production - written and directed by Umberto Lenzi - but was filmed on location in Boston and Massachusetts with an almost entirely American cast. The acting is appalling (other than by some of the older adults), the script leaves quite a few things unexplained, and the climax rips off large chunks of Poltergeist. Talking of other films, this movie's original title was Ghosthouse, but they decided to release it in Italy as La casa3; Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II had been successfully released in Italy as La casa 1 and La casa 2, and they wanted to cash in on those films' popularity (needless to say there is no connection whatsoever).
There are some nice shots, the house is a great location (also used in Lucio Fulci's The House by the Cemetery), and it has that 80s nostalgia (interestingly for an 80s horror, no nudity). Brainless fun 6/10
