Goofy mindless fun...

some cool action scenes, and visuals aside, I thought this was a big step down from the first film, which pains me to say because I loved the first film. Even the performances felt like they were just there, and not as in tune as they were in the first film. You can obviously tell the studio meddling is the big issue here because the tone is all over the place. The best moments are when James Wans vision shine through, especially scenes involving Black Manta, who, btw, had so much potential to be an iconic villain and there's glimmers of that which come through, especially in the fight scenes. Unfortunately, the rest of the film just comes across as dull, which pains me to say because I honestly really really enjoyed the first aquaman film and thought it was easily one of the best of the DCEU. I don't think The Lost Kingdom is terrible, and it's not the worst DC film of 2023, but when comparing it to the first film, i was dissappointed, which I suppose is a fitting end for the DCEU as a whole.

When people say there aren’t many good mid-budget movies made for grown-ups anymore, they’re talking about movies like this.

Every role was perfectly cast and acted. Sterling K Brown is expectedly great and funny. He gave the funniest line of the movie that literally made me laugh out loud.

Tracy Ellen Ross had limited screen time but her chemistry with Jeffrey Wright was great and I absolutely believed they were brother and sister.

And Jeffrey Wright was perfection. We’ve seen this type of character before. He actually reminded me of Paul Giamatti in Sideways. But every look, delivery, and eye roll was perfection.

Highly recommend this to everyone.
