Not a bad directorial debut for Patrick Wilson. He doesn't quite have James Wan's eye for the creepy but he gets good performances from his actors. The story is okay, although it leans a little too heavily on 'family drama' for me (I mean, this isn't The Shining or Hereditary). The pacing feels off; the first two thirds are a little slow, whilst the final third/finale feels rushed, giving an impression that stuff had to be sacrificed for the sake of runtime. The realm of 'the Further' seems to have had its budget slashed and doesn't look anywhere near as expansive as it did in the first two movies. However, the effects are well done, the family dynamic is believable, and it's nice to see so many returning faces - even if some are barely more than cameos. Insidious and Insidious Ch 2 are both 8/10 movies for me. This one doesn't come near them, but it's a reasonable conclusion(?) to the Lambert family story. I will say that Ghost's cover of Shakespear's Sister's Stay (with Patrick Wilson on guest vocals!) over the end credits rocks. Overall, 6.5/10

Loads of fun in this animated adventure. Riz Ahmed is really good as the knight who gets accused of murdering the queen in this (retro futuristic? Nah, but as close as I get to call it lol) middle age society, but of course is set up. Chloe Grace Moretz nails it though as the ridiculously fun Nimona character, you can tell she must've had a blast doing this voice work.
The story and plot might feel simple and maybe even predictable, and so goes for the social messages. But the great animation, voice acting, and really good humouristic moments together with a huge heart all makes up for it. One of the best animated flicks recently IMHO (of the ones I've watched, I don't keep up that well unfortunately).
Djävulens Öga/The Devil's Eye (1960)
Something as rare as an Ingmar Bergman comedy. Yeah, of corse it's a dark comedy, but still. The Devil/Satan (Stig Järrell) gets aware that there's a young "marriage ready" woman (Bibi Andersson) on Earth who's still a virgin at 20yo, which of course has given him a sty in his eye. In order to correct this painful dilemma here in hell, he sends none less than eternal damned Don Juan (Jarl Kulle) to Earth to seduce her, which would fix this. The outcome isn't that easy though, as mr. Satan will learn.
The comedy here lies of course not in some slapstick scenes, but purely in the dialogue. Bergman's brilliant religious satire whithout speaking out atheism is what gets me here. Even the narrator to this story (Gunnar Björnstrand) is very entertaining, and of course some of the one liners in the story are quite hilarious in themselves. Pinhead (from the Hellraiser series) would've taking notes here.
The Devil/Satan: The higher powers have tricked us. Our evil has fallen flat against the cold, calculating goodness of heaven.
It's sad, not to mention unartistic, to have to admit love's victory and evil's utter defeat.

The Vicar: .. I'm honored by the visit. To think this would happen to me. Praise the Lord!
The Demon: Stop that! Aren't consideration and manners in order, even though I am from Hell?
The Vicar: I apologize my dear man. It was thoughtless of me.
DC Showcase: Death (2019)
My favourite of the DC Showcase animated shorts (there might be one or two I've missed during the years, not sure). Death is a huge favourite of mine among the DC characters. Such a brilliant idea back then by Gaiman to have Death be a young kind girl (and bonus points for making her look like some of the girls I remember from that late 80s/early 90s era (a colourful era, mind you) wearing all black clothes and listening to The Cure lol).
Hence my concerns this wouldn't hold up to my expectations at the first watch. But damn, this is a truly great short story, and the charactarization of Death felt just like picked straight from the Sandman books IMHO.
When I saw the portrait of Death the first time watching this, I instantly screamed inside: What's his name, what's his name - crap, I have to check out the credits to be reminded of the well known artist. And OF COURSE it's Jae Lee. My memory typically gets worse by the year it seems dammit.
