What was the last movie you watched? Part 2

This was good but I definitely think the Oscar hype is way overblown. Dwayne gave a really solid performance though and honestly the scenes between him and Blunt were easily my favorite parts of the movie.

The fights were done well and felt pretty realistic but The UFC/MMA stuff overall was the least interesting part of the movie IMO.

7/10

I had a blast with this movie and I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it because it's easily one of the funniest comedies I've seen in a while.

Granted I've only seen bits and pieces of the original although I do plan on watching that one soon but man the chemistry between Olivia Coleman and Benedict Cumberbatch is seriously off the charts and I wasn't expecting this to take such a dark and crazy turn in the third act but the finale is pretty crazy.

This was also one of the few times I didn't mind Kate Mckinonon and Andy Sandberg in something and they were actually some of the funnier parts of the movie.

7.5/10

Another comedy that's being slept on right now and I hadn't even heard of it until a couple of days ago but this was pretty solid. Rainn Wilson was really good here and I liked how unapologetically dark it got at times which reminded me a lot of Bringing out the Dead.

7/10

A really nice change of style in the franchise with the Predator front and center in the story in a really fun and great looking sci-fi action/adventure that we dont get too many of these days. Everyone in it is great and it looks and sounds amazing, the action is also great and clever and inventive at the same time, it all somehow feels so fresh in a fairly old series. Yautja this world!!

A House of Dynamite (2025) – Dropped on Netflix recently & immediately caught my attention. Very good, but with a controversial ending that you’ll either love or hate.

Tense, suspenseful, heart-pounding & great acting. That in my opinion makes up for the….”ending”.

THE BOY WHO CRIED WEREWOLF ( 1973)

1973's The Boy Who Cried Werewolf is a pretty entertaining, campy, and genuinely , funny Horror -Comedy .

For a period when pulling off Werewolf make up wasn't easy, this film's Werewolf is actually seen clearly throughout, and isn't reduced to quick scenes, and attempts to hide the make up.

While it obviously isn't up to the standards of An American Werewolf In London and The Howling, it isn't that far removed from the 1940s Wolfman and Teen Wolf from 1980s .

So, while I prefer that more giant wolf like interpretation, I respect that the filmmakers went all in on the look, even with it's flaws.

The film doesn't take itself too seriously, and while there are several leaps that you have to just go with , the acting is actually pretty good all around.

From Hippie Guru's , to Small Town Sheriff's , to an appearance from Police Academy and Punk Brewster's George Gaynes , the film first and foremost is there to entertain and wallow in
it's cheesiness .

So, I laughed alot and had alot of fun with this one .

Released on July 10th 1973, the number one song was a hit by the late and very great Jim Croce who left us way too soon, but left alot of good music, in the brief time he was here.

Nice to get to watch this again after a bit of time and enjoying it so much in the cinema. Still a really fun romp, colorful and a really nice aesthetic to the world created by the makers really make it pop off the screen. The cast is all great and are pitch perfect in their roles, Sue, really gets to shine but they all have their parts to play. The whole black hole/Shalla-Bal chase sequence is one of my recent MCU favourites that still looks great and thrilling even on a smaller screen. It has some minor flaws in the pacing but once things get going its a thrill ride to the epic end with Galactus as a real threat.

Tourist Trap (AKA Nightmare of Terror ~ 1979)

Often-overlooked slasher starring Chuck Connors and Tanya Roberts. A group of five teenagers (two guys, three girls) are driving through an unspecified, isolated rural area of the US when they stumble across a waxworks museum owned by middle-aged, shotgun-toting, dungarees-wearing Mr Slausen (Connors). When their car breaks down Slausen offers them hospitality whilst he tries to help fix it. He tells them the museum is permanently closed due to the the building of a new highway which means traffic hardly ever passes by any more. One of the girls decides she wants to make a phone call, but with the phone in the museum not working she sneaks out to the spooky old house behind the museum to try there. When she doesn't return the other girls go searching for her...

The basic plot is by-the-numbers 'teens in isolated location get butchered by deranged killer'. However, it does stand out by giving the murderer the power of telekinesis - think 'Carrie-meets-The Texas Chain Saw Massacre-meets-Psycho'. Coming just a year after John Carpenter's Halloween the slasher tropes of the 80s were yet to be firmly established; as such there's not much gore, and there's no nudity. But there are some entertaining kills and an atmosphere that gets very creepy, even menacing at times. Sadly, after a really strong start, about a third of the way through it starts to meander and never quite recovers that early pace. Also, there are a lot of things that don't make any sense and leave you scratching your head; this really is one of those films where you have to 'just go with it'.

Chuck Connors is obviously enjoying doing something so different and is probably the most entertaining I've seen him. The other 'name' is Tanya Roberts as 'Becky' (this was a year before she broke through with Charlie's Angels) - who looks absolutely stunning. The score by Italian composer Pino Donaggio (who also scored Carrie, Dressed to Kill, and Blow Out amongst many others) is terrific.

If it wasn't for the lack of pacing that hits about 25 minutes in this would have been an 8/10, easy. As it is, 6.5/10. Still a fun movie.

IN SEARCH OF ...HOSTED BY LEONARD NIMOY

In a divergence from my Trek through 1970s telefilm horror , is The series In Search Of With Leonard Nimoy, which ran from 1976 through 1982 .

A precursor to Unsolved Mysteries in the 1980s, the show explored mysteries, legends, true crime, and strange phenomena , hosted by the great Leonard Nimoy and featuring experts, re-enactments, and interviews .

These are actually the first episodes I've ever seen of the series, though I heard of it over the years .

Airing just 8 years after the crime, In Search Of ...DB Cooper attempts to explore the various possibilities and scenarios to what may have happen to the elusive Skyjacker in 1971 .

While there have been a numerous amount of theories and suspects over the past 50s years,
like The Jack Ripper Case, the case is still officially unsolved ,and his identity is still the subject of debate.

On October 12th 1978 , one of the top songs in the charts was a big hit from the Disco era

December 6th ,1979 was one of the early hits by an artist who would be a solo sensation in the 80s, Prince.

Both very good, albeit strange, films, with some fantastic lead performances on both sides. In the case of Die My Love, I think this might be Jennifer Lawrence's best performance since Silver Linings Playbook.
