Superman: The Movie what was the "Original" ending to Superman: The Movie?

wondering if this has ever been answered....with the ending to Superman II ( turning back the Earth/time) pushed onto the end of Superman the Movie to save Lois from death, i always wondered what was originally suppossed to happen with Lois.... Superman rescues her in time? she still dies,but he finds another way to bing her back?

anyone know?

In the script, Superman simply manages to get to Lois before she's crushed/suffocated in the fissure.

And the movie ended on a cliffhnager, when the missile he threw into space destroyed the Phantom Zone...

That actually sounds way better than the ending that was released... imo
