What will be Marvel's answer to Batman Arkham City?

What should be Marvel's answer to B: AC?

  • Planet Hulk video game

  • Avengers Legends

  • An open world X-men game

  • Street level superheroes (Daredevil/Luke Cage/Moonknight etc)

  • An epic and psychedelic Fantastic Four game

  • Shield (in the style of Call of Duty)

  • One of the lesser tier characters

  • Cosmic Marvel inspired by DnA's run

  • God of War style Thor game

  • Bioshock inspired Captain America game

  • Iron Man with customizable armour

  • Old Man Logan

  • None

  • Other

  • She Hulk: Ace Attorney

  • Doctor Strange horror-esque game

  • They've already matched it...with X-men Destiny! >:(

Although I agree, that it shows the power of the batman franchise, when coupled with a great game.

I think DC will have to pump out ANOTHER one for a different super hero before Marvel Responds. Realistically I dont think one game shows enough to invest into video games. Especially with so many of the marvel games coming out. It seems to be them it's not about quality, it's about quantity. And don't get me wrong, DC still treats this with some of there other heroes. A great example is the green lantern game...just completely terrible. You can tell they wanted to sell as many as they could in the shortest amount of time.

I mean even MUA had great potential, the x-men legend games originally did well. And they only had to build on them, instead they came out with MUA, which was far less than revolutionary. It made for a decent but not exceptionally over well done that AA and AC have shown is possible with a super hero game.

Overall, the right company has to come to marvel to do this. I don't know why Marvel doesn't look into hiring a visionary leader to motivate and look over a project who understands gaming. I think the stories have been pretty well done, I mean if you were to do a basic "story line" graph, it looks great on paper.

You can just see people get so caught up in, "Good web slinging makes for a great spider-man game". Which is TRULY not the case, people want to play as Peter Parker Spider-man, not Dude who swings with cool web. I think this is something that AA has done really well.

You never feel like your playing a standard game. You feel like your playing a BATMAN game, it's very immersive, and makes sure you know you feel like batman.

And I truly think, that most video games based on super heroes go in with that wrong mentality, because I know that's the first thing I think of, hey you know what would be cool...if I was a green lantern and given the ability to create cool objects!

Well, truth is that is "cool". But thats really not what makes AA & AC, and super hero games feel genuine, and any different than every other game where you have some sort of special power.

I'd really want to see the business #'s in what generates more profit versus more revenue. My money is that AA's & AC's current business model with DLC being added will generate FAR more than the other games, but not because its cool to have those costumes, but because everyone knows that those DLC's are going to be done with quality.

So overall, I don't expect marvel to retaliate with there own title, not in the forseeable future. They don't have someone who understands both markets the way Sefton Hill does and his team do. (I'm guessing it's sefton who had the vision, i could be wrong.)

However, I do envision more and more super hero games coming out in the next bit, as more and more companies try to tap into this market. As this happens, I imagine we'll start see more quality games.

Great post there!

another captain america could capture the essence of arkham city..the first was good but missed the mark..no where near as much polish as batman.
i think wolverine could do the same too.

tho personally i'd love to see a game based round Union Jack..but itd never happen :(

Punisher, Dardevil, and Ghost Rider all deserve a good game

these 3 characters are pretty close to Batman in respect to being dark and working alone. i really doubt they would get a game as excellent as both Arkham games, but something good can definately be made.

personally though, i would love a new X-Men game along the lines of Wolverine: Origins & Marvel Ultimate Alliance. a game in which you can actually play as characters like Wolverine, Gambit, Cyclops, etc. unlike X-Men Destiny. what a load of crap that was

The problem is that Moon Knight has no exposure and games like AA cost a ton of money to make. They aren't going to invest in a Moon Knight game that'd be on the same level.
Sometimes they need to take risks. Who expected Prince of Persia engine modification would lead to developing one of the best video game series? And the back story of Assassin's isn't really well known

Game developers often base games on quite the anonymous material, marketing takes its toll
Personally, I think Daredevil needs a video game. The closest we got was this, but it was cancelled.
He doesn't, the guy is dressed a devil and goes all Christian, he should change his name and costume first

another captain america could capture the essence of arkham city..the first was good but missed the mark..no where near as much polish as batman.
He needs a more challenging and a longer game for hardcore gamers, and not being based on movie since we all know how much that sort of games have a taboo on them

A game doesn't need to be as dark as the Batman games to be as great. What it needs is as much heart, mind and knowledge as those games have.

A Spider-Man game, treated as well as the Arkham games, has every potential to be as great.

Problem with that is most people can agree how Batman moves like, when it comes to Spider-Man there are too many arguments

I agree man. Spider-Man has the potential to deliver both films and games on the same level as The Dark Knight/Arkham City, all it takes are the right people behind it

^Definitely! And I have a feeling that the film Amazing Spider-Man will deliver!

Anyway, about games, imagine a Spider-Man game taking use of Spider-Man's amazing rogues gallery the same way Rocksteady does in their Arkham games.

As long as Activision holds the license, I can't imagine we'll ever see a Spider-Man game on the same level as the Arkham games.

I think Sucker Punch could and would welcome that in the future

Not if Sucker Punch is under the Sony umbrella. Marvel wouldnt allow Spider-Man to be an exclusive.

But I agree. Sucker Punch would kill it as a Spider-Man dev.

Marvel seriously should get developers like Rocksteady to make games for them, but first they need to realize that churning out low-quality games in a very short period of time isn't the way to make money, but rather acclaimed games like AA & AC that were developed over a reasonable amount of time do.

I think they do, but they are kind of in a pickle. There really isn't anything they can do with the Spider-Man or X-Men licenses because they are owned by Activision. Marvel could buy them back, but that would more than likely be really expensive. Id be willing to wager a large sum that says Disney/Marvel will NOT renew the licenses with Activision once they run out. Im assuming they will either find a more competent studio or do what WB has done which is create their own branch for games publishing/development.

Why not? They can have more than one developer work on the license. Its not unheard of. Especially if after the Actvision deal is done and they dont want to be deadlocked into another longterm deal right away. They could shop Spidey around and see what others have to offer. Even if its a one game arrangement, I could live with that. Considernig Sony owns the movie rights to Spiderman, I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities that they could end up making a game in the future. If it wasnt for the Activision arrangement, theres a good chance they might have already done so

No, Marvel would not allow their most popular character to be locked to one system, that doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Now if you are saying Sucker Punch could make a multi plat Spidey game then i agree. You won't see an exclusive Spider-Man game, put that idea out of you head.

You missed the part where I said more than one developer could get a crack at making a Spidey game. In that case, the character wouldnt be locked to one system

Heck before the game got cancelled, Marvel had an exclusive arrangment with Microsoft to make that MMO game for the 360 so its not like they are against putting games on only one platform anyway

But that game was canceled, plus i would of made the wager it would of gone multi plat had it of come out. Too much money is lost for it not to. Same with a Spider-Man title. There is too much money to be lost for Marvel leaving out the almost 60 million user base that both platforms have. I also dont think Disney/Marvel would license out the character to multiple developers. There is more money to be made for Disney/Marvel with an exclusive license(they can charge more) to one publisher/developer.

A free roam Daredevil, Punisher or Ghost Rider game could be god like.

Old Man Logan could also be very cool. X-Men Origins: Wolverine mixed with Fallout.
