what would you like to see in season 2 of Wolverine and the X-Men

Oh boy I'm in trouble now, ok I know cyclops has a lot of flaws but thats why I like him .I have always found flawed characters more interesting and I would prefer this cyclops over boy scout cyclops.X men evo cyclops is favourite followed by WATXM cyclops ,Xmen 90s cyclops felt like a robot ,maybe it was the terrible animation of horrible voice actor I'm not sure. It looks like cyclops will play a big role in season 2 so y'all better get used to him.

Hey, Norm Spencer (of the 90s series) was not a bad Cyclops. At least his version of the character wasn't grossly inept or easily dismissed.

Anyhow, there's flawed and then there's nothing but flaws, and this show's Cyclops falls into the nothing but flaws category, even before the pilot. It's hard to root for a character who lacks positive qualities & lacks positive growth.

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Seriously, I see both of your points (but I'm siding with Panthro as usual here). It's all a matter of taste, and possibly age, since I feel much of what a person likes in a character is based on the version they grew up with. I grew up with Claremonts X Men, so boy scout Cyclops is what I am used to (although Whedon did a great job with updating him in AXM).

Fair enough,I have never read any xmen comic books,my only exposure to the xmen are the movies and the 3 animated series ,maybe that's why I don't mind how the characters are portrayed
As for the voice actors ,maybe I was a bit harsh on Norm Spencer, but Nolan North to be is a better voice actor.

Nolan North is better at being Deadpool though. That was the part he was clearly born to play.

Nolan North was a great Deadpool-he seemed to really enjoy voicing him in Hulk vs. (who wouldn't?). He isn't a bad Cyclops either-it's the writers who radically changed the character. Anyway, here's hoping for some breaking 4th wall action in season 2 (one can always dream....)

I am a bit surprised that there hasn't been a trailer for season 2 yet. Have they shown the final 4 episodes of season 1 in the US yet? Marvel is probably waiting for Nicktoons to catch up before advertising season 2. Please let it be soon!!!! MiniEvilClare has now turned to Super Hero Squad to sate her X Men thirst, and I don't know how much more I can take!!!!!!!!

Hey guys. New here. Well...not exactly new. I stalked this forum for a good two days before deciding to actually watch this show. And I have to say thank God that this show isn't as lame or as overrated as Evolution. I probably shouldn't even be thinking of posting in this thread yet, as I haven't even finished watching the second half of the first season yet. (As soon as the weekend hits, I'll get started on that...)

Well, a few things I have to get off my chest that I've been keeping bottled in since the beginning of time. So if you're wondering why I won't shut up, blame the fact that I've only just started to frequent X-Men boards.

1)The trench coat...It's a simple addition to his costume, but damn does it look badass when in motion...
2)Some people have brought up the issue that Cyclops wearing a trench coat is a rip-off of Gambit's costume, whether for better or worse. Really now? Having a trench coat as part of your costume automatically means you ripped it off of Gambit and he's the only one allowed to wear it? I mean, I know where you're coming from, seeing as how Gambit is probably among the first "superheroes" to regularly wear a trench coat. But still, it's not like he patented the damn thing. Personally, I love the trench coat addition to Cyclops in this show. His normal blue skull-cap costume is too plain and boring for me, and I think everyone can agree that he's better looking simply not wearing the skull cap. Ah well. Opinion, opinions. What are you gonna do?
3)Craig Kyle said in an interview they wanted to show that Wolverine's not the best leader out there, maybe not even a good leader. So far, I haven't seem much of that...Closest to that I've seen is Episode 13, where Xavier even reassured Logan that he can cut it as a leader. So, Craig...you better stick to your word eventually. Should probably finish watching the season first...
4)Wolverine is awful in kids shows. Wolverine, you have claws, why don't you ever freaking use them? Yes, Wolverine. Sheathe those claws. Just punch the Hulk for all I care. The show would have been that much better if they hadn't made it G-rated(or whatever the hell kid-related rating it is) to up ratings.
5)Many people have issues with Cyclops' portrayal in this series so far. I personally don't, but I can see where people are coming from. Although I felt Episode 3, and this may spark controversy, kinda captured what the the producers/writers had intended for Cyke's character. He's the silent loner now, but he'll be there to help if you want him to. (Alright, maybe not that part where he walked out when Xavier said Logan had to be leader, but a Cyclops fan might have done that in his place. lol) And Episode 12, despite Cyke's unreasonable obsession with chasing Sinister and magically finding Jean, did show off some of Cyke's badass skills. So that episode satisfied me very much. ^^
6)Nolan North is a good Cyclops and an awesome Deadpool.
7)The animation is okay, but as an aspiring artist, I'm going to have to say it leaves a lbit to be desired.
8)Kari Wahlgren, as a voice actor, is as fabulous as ever.
9)Thank God Nightcrawler is cooler in this series. I hated everything about Evolution Nightcrawler, which many people will stone me for even thinking.
10)I'm hoping for Cyclops to develop into the kickass-leader I'm used to. Granted, he's definitely still kickass, but that leader part needs work. I realize that even asking for him to be leader again is too much in a show called Wolverine and the X-Men, where Wolverine's spot as leader seems more like a cheap shortcut to make him the main character. Although I admit that I prefer it this way, since if they had to focus the plot on Wolverine more to make him the main character, I would just not like that. We have too many Wolverine-based series already. My suggestion would be for Cyclops to develop into a 'co-leader'. One that will challenge every (questionable) decision that Wolverine will make, providing strategies here and there. Similar to how Brand chose Beast to be her xenophiliac experimentation partner boyfriend partly so that he could challenge every move she makes as a leader.
11)I love that so many characters from the comics get all these little cameos.
12)I agree with EvilClaire on the Gambit issue. I feel as though he was portrayed too much as a jerk and not the antihero people love. Here's to hoping for a redemption episode (or arc).
13)Storm needs more characterization, which seems to be a common issue for her these days.
14)I would rather prefer that Rogue not get the Ms. Marvel powers. I agree with Dread on this issue: she's hax enough with her 'touch of death'. Besides, I think it would be more fun for Rogue's powers to vary from mission to mission instead of constant super strength, flight, and invulnerability. God knows we have too many of those already...
15)Okay, so they know Sinister, his Marauders, Magneto, the Brotherhood, but they had no clue who Mystique was at first? I think they need to establish just how much history their version of these characters have with each other.

And now for some not-so WTXM related thoughts.
I know a bunch of people grew up with Claremont Cyclops. I techincally grew up with Morrison & Whedon Cyclops (I started reading and getting into X-Men comics when I was about 16, so I an't that old...), so...yes: I am a proud Cyclops fan and I enjoy his badassness. Although the thing that piqued my curiosity about Cyclops was actually X2. It was that one short action sequence he had with the security guards and Lady Deathstrike. I was like, "Wow. This guy is actually kinda cool...He can do karate...You know, I never noticed how cool that visor looks...Ah damn. She knocked him out." The entire rest of the movie, I was waiting for another epic Cyclops fight. It never happened...And then came the disaster known as X3. *shudder* Cyclops, as a character, was just a general disaster throughout the movie trilogy.

I love the Scott and Emma pairing. Scott was always too...clingy to Jean. It's like Emma opened his eyes, so to speak, and I love Emma as a character. So I was a bit concerned when rumors about Jean possibly getting revived (again) sometime after Dark Reign sprang up. I just hope --ah ha ha, get it? -- that Hope is nothing more than the reincarnation of Jean.

Other characters I like include Iceman, Kitty, X-23, Pixie, Magik, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch. There might be some more.

Well said Ultimate. I agree with what you said. To be honest, I think Cyclops would look rather dull if he didn't wear his trench coat. It's a nice look. The creators obviously wanted to do something different and you gotta admit, his outfit did suit his depressing period. Talking of trench coats, what is up with Gambit's? It looks good and all but what has he got on his shoulders? They look like pieces of metal!!

Yeah, same here. I hear that season 2 is supposed to air in January although I don't think it's been confirmed. You would think they would have at least released a promo or a picture even. Ah well. The last air date for season 1 (in the US) is the 29th of November by the way :yay:.

I'm assuming they're metal shoulderpads?

Well, they did supposedly show pictures of season 2 at Comic Con 2009.

When the hell does season 2 start?
No one knows yet. I'm sure it'll be on Wikipedia when people do find out though. xD

EDIT: Wow, speak of the devil. Found this on Wiki just now: "Rumours have it that the second season will premier sometime in January 2010."

Uh.....actually I wrote that yesterday, lol! I don't know if it's true. It's only what I've heard. One can always hope :yay:

Ha, so its you who writes all that misleading stuff on wiki!:cwink:

Nov 29th? Gotta tell my sis so she can catch the last four episodes.

Well, here's hoping that Marvel will have some previews for us by Xmas.

Minor Season 2 update:

Production is currently underway for a second season of 26 new episodes of Wolverine and The X-Men, with the episodes scheduled to premiere on Nicktoons Network in 2010. Stay tuned for further updates, including exclusive details and content.

From Marvel Animation Age.

Guess I may as well officially welcome the newcomers here. It is nice to get new opinions about the show coming here.

Lot to reply to, so I'll just reply to what I can without clogging the post in quotes.

As stated in another topic, the second season of this show is slated to begin in 2010. The latest rumor is that it will debut "before last quarter 2010", which would likely mean Fall 2010. I seriously doubt that we would see an episode air anywhere by Jan. 2010. The reason is that the official word that a second season of W&TXM was in production was in November 2008, more or less a year ago as of now. It takes months to write a bible for the season, then write and edit scripts, voice record, do all the new character models for the season, and then ship it overseas for final animation. Final animation can take anywhere from 14-24 months to come back from Korea or Japan or where ever it is done. During some commentaries for some of the Lion's Gate DTV's, I believe Craig Kyle used to claim that many of his projects "averaged" taking 18 months to see finished animation. Of course, a DTV has a higher budget than most TV animation, which may be done in less time. Still, Jan. 2010 would mean that they only needed 13 months to have at least one episode written, edited, voiced, animated, and then re-edited, mixed with music and aired. That seems improbably swift.

The first season started popping up overseas in March '08. With NickToons the official home of the show, maybe there won't be so long of a gap between airings in North America vs. the rest of the world. A target date of Fall 2010 seems reasonable. Still, we should hopefully see a teaser trailer for the season, and/or promotional artwork releases, within a month or two.

As always, debate about how Cyclops was treated by Season 1 continue to abound; methinks the debate was intentional. A general consensus I believe exists is that whether you loved how he was on this show, or hated it, at least he wasn't boring. I have read a few fans on IMDB claim that much. At first the premise of Cyclops for the show irritated me, but having watched how Season 1 handled it, I believe it's a fine premise, just that some of the execution was imperfect. The writers did a great job making him seem flawed, shattered, petty, selfish, vengeful, and whatnot - at least in the episodes where he actually spoke. The problem is they didn't do a good job showing his strengths, or at least the point from which he fell from; the viewer is told that this is a "new change" for Cyclops but we never see what he changed from; even his flashbacks in Episode 20 paint him as incompetent, morbidly obsessed with Jean, and petty. There were also moments where it seemed the entire show stopped so the writers could make a point of how much of a better man Wolverine is, and it was awkward every time. Still, at this point I do commend the experiment. It did have it's moment, and drew a lot of attention. Aside for Wolverine, Cyclops probably had the most focus across the season, especially by the end.

As for his design, Steven E. Gordon basically adopted the John Cassaday design from ASTONISHING X-MEN, as he did for Wolverine and a few of the costumes. The problem is that design is a bit stale and simple. The trench-coat is a bit of a simple way to make it more lively. In motion, it worked out rather well. It added a bit of mystique to the design (pun intended), plus, I imagine the fact that it was Grey was intentional, given Scott's morals for the season, as well as who he was chasing.

Season 2, however, leaves the whole Cyclops dynamic in a bit of a corner. I fully understand why a certain woman died in the finale, at least for now, but it leaves Season 2 in an awkward place. If Jean being there allows Cyclops to lead again, then the title makes no sense and something has to happen to keep Wolverine there. If Cyclops continues to defer to Wolverine even with Jean to make him stable again, it will merely prove his overall incompetence. Episode 20 all but bluntly stated that Logan didn't "take his position" - Logan filled a position that Scott was never able to assume no matter how much Xavier coddled him. If Cyclops decides he misses Frost and ignores Jean, then he seems like a selfish cad for risking his friends lives in Season 1, and ungrateful to boot because Jean is back. If the writers can find some way to make that situation work that doesn't make Cyclops completely unsympathetic, they'll have more than earned their money. I don't envy them. I can't come up with anything.

Colossus has been confirmed as returning, so that will be something to wait for. I do hope Iceman and especially Beast get more to do. This is actually the first X-Men cartoon that went 26 episodes without one centered on Beast. Especially since he is voiced well, has a cool design, even fights! Across three X-Men cartoons, Beast is one of few X-Men one could usually claim was handled well in each one.

I don't believe Cyclops "ripped off Gambit's trench", but I do see why they never appear in the same episode, since it would seem a bit "Trench Coat Mafia" to have both of them in one episode. Even if Justice League was never shy about cape people.

Naturally I am interested in this Apocalypse subplot and seeing where things with Mr. Sinister go. Clancy Brown is great as Sinister and naturally he skipped Evolution, so this is a good 21st century Sinister. The same writing crew made gold of Apocalypse in Evolution, so I am curious to see what they have for a "sequel".

Hopefully the storyboarding for the action improves. None of it was bad, but a lot was a bit mundane.

But above all, hopefully the writing is better able to move along a complex story without losing characters or character interaction to it. Season 1 I thought too often sacrificed character for spectacle. It's forgivable for a debut season but a second season has to improve on foundations. I believe the writers are more than capable of that. Hence why I can be a harsh critic. ;)

since I don't watch regularly and am watching the marathon today....how did Sinister manage to capture Angel and turn him into Archangel??

They actually re-ran that episode in a marathon today:

Angel was injured in an MRD attack and taken to the hospital. His father gave the doctors permission to amputate his wings. The event drove Angel mad and he gave in to Sinister's offer to bring back his wings. Angel accepted the offer not wanting to listen to Wolverine, Beast, or Storm and voluntarily gave in to Sinister.

ooooh...ok then...thanks...I had stopped watching the show earlier in the season, but ill give it another go

well doesn't Disney purchasing Marvel affect the next season of this show?? Disney should yank this off asap and move it to one of their own channels

Thus finally ends the first season US broadcast of Wolverine And The X-men on Nicktoons.

NOTE, scenes that were cut from the BBC broadcast of the series were in these episodes. The scene with Wolverine and the bound Emma Frost and Wolverine threatening her with his claws was NOT in the BBC broadcast.

ME just more of the same, and if they are gonna bring in the characters they said they were gonnna bring it then i'm fine with that...love the idea of bring in
deadpool" the whole season so far as been well done, can't say enough about this season. Great story telling, great pacing and great voice actors.....the only thing i didnt like is the over sized forearms and the small waist lines...i really dont care to much for that type of animation but overall is was so great that i can tolarate the animation....

I am curious how the cut scenes effected the whole finale. Wolverine deciding to basically listen to the future version of himself's advice (through Xavier) and actually trust Frost was a season defining moment, and it came off entirely too rushed and shoddy in the BBC edit.

At any rate, the Disney deal doesn't effect this show on NickToons. Lion's Gate is the company that sells it on DVD. Fox owns the movie rights and intends to keep them. Disney merely has the rights to the 90's X-MEN series, which they have started officially releasing onto DVD's this year (which I heard were about as bare bones as many bootleg editions).

Yes, the 90s series DVDs were bare boned.

Hehe, Trench Coat Mafia. :hehe:

Anyhow, John Cassaday's design for Cyclops from ASTONISHING looked like an attempt to adapt his movie costume into comic book format, with the skull cap attached to it, even though the skull cap tends to give his head a squashed misshapen look. In W&TXM, the skull cap often made his head look like an egg in some shots. His costume from the Ultimates universe might actually look good in this series animation, but I don't know if they feel like ditching the Cassaday + trench coat design. I wouldn't mind if Cycke ditched the wrist band that sometimes appears when he's in civilian attire, it looks silly.
