I'd have to reread it to say for sure. When I read it I had a serious Pentecostal JESUS!!!! type of mentality, so I liked that sort of thing.

I know the story is very engaging, but it might be preachy. I remember it not shying away from the religious side of the story. It worth at least the first novel. The stories were good enough that I read the first 5 books in 5 days (1 day each). Granted, I was unemployed at the time, but still...

All the religious stuff ruined the Narnia books for me.

Really? I thought the Narnia books were very subtle about it with the exception of a few scenes (namely the [blackout]death and resurrection of Aslan[/blackout] and the Narnian portrayal of [blackout]the book of Revelation[/blackout])

It wasnt subtle at all man. From the actions and description of every character on down was cast in that light.

Eh, maybe if you're looking for it. I didn't notice it at all save for those two examples. The Last Battle's the only overly noticeable one for me.

I've wanted to read the Left Behind series for years, but I don't want a book preaching to me and trying to push an ideology. Do the books do that?

i'd be lying if i said they didn't pray and talk about religion a lot. the main storyline of the series is the events taking place after the Rapture.

But there's a lot of characters, lots of action, destruction, death and the book takes place all over the globe through various people's perspectives. that might draw you in.

there's a thread for the series in this forum too if you wanna check it out

fwiw, i started The Golden Lily from the Bloodlines series, which is a spinoff from the Vampire Academy series

Sounds decent at least. Guess its time to crack it open and give it a whirl.

Dream Team: How Michael, Magic, Larry, Charles, and the Greatest Team of All Time Conquered the World and Changed the Game of Basketball Forever
Book by Jack McCallum

Excite! The ol' book club is coming back from hiatus, so I should be reading some good stuff soon.

finished The Golden Lily last night er well about 4am this morning lol.

i'm going to try to start The Indigo Spell tonight. i'm kind of hooked on the series now

On the Mountains of Madness.

Spoiler:

[BLACKOUT]They are never on the mountains, just close to them.[/BLACKOUT]

i finished The Indigo Spell in under 24 hours, i have no idea what to read now

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters ~ Rick Riordan

Good book, Terry ruled. Though if I had to pick the weakest one of the series then this would be it.

Agreed. It's a hard sell to begin with when the main characters you know and love aren't in about 90% of the book to begin with. And I kinda feel like Oba was a bit worthless in the end.

So we got our old Book Club together again and selected Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs as our new title. I'm going to see if I can find it today.

Eager to get back into the Pick 3 Book Club. Eager to read this book.

i have that on my kindle as something on my to-read list, do let me know what you think of it

Small Gods - Terry Pratchett Discworld.

When I first spelled Discworld I spelled it Discoworld. That would be a very different series. :p

That's it. Different cover than I have, I've got the paperback with her standing in the cobblestone lane, but that's it.

i'll add that to my list but i'm iffy. i've never been a fan of the fairy/fae genre
