What's your view of the definitive Batman costume?

I'd say the definitive Batman costume has to incorporate the darkness he feels inside, the fear he inspires and a practical nature.

I'd say you need to take a mix of the more modern costumes to achieve this as they move more into a more military and practical nature in recent times. The new 52, both the one worn by Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne, the two most recent batman film by Nolan, The son of Batman and the Arkham games (although way less bulky) all show this mix.

Sorry to say but I feel the older more spandex type costumes have been grown out of by necessity and a return to the torment he feels and wants to inflict. I will admit I do not know all of his older ones as well as I am only in my mid twenties and didn't see them through the eyes of the times they were released in.

I do too, but everything else on the BR suit I like more. I like the texture, the cowl, the color, and more than anything else, the Batsymbol. But I do prefer the muscle armor.

I still think The Panther suit from BF got it the closest, for me.

Functionality be damned, I prefer the yellow oval and the capsule belt to the oval-less bat and the pouch belt. I prefer the cape, cowl, trunks, gloves and boots to be black rather than blue. I like the ears long but not ridiculously long like Kelley Jones draws them.

Seriously, though, BB's suit is five times better than TDK[R]'s. I just wish they had got the black/grey colour blocking right.

I never understood why people make Batman have boxer briefs when they do their model of TLH Batsuit? In the comic, it doesn't look like that, but in the game and 2 other figures, he has these long boxer briefs that make him look weird.
