^^ True, but she always stayed in Peter's memory. I thought she was great character and the fact that she was sensitive added to that and made her death all the more tragic. Is MJ my favorite? of course and she's the most fun of Peter's romantic life. However, I still think Gwen was a great character overall and her stamp on Peter's life was felt for years.

Next to Spider-Man himself, Gwen's always been my favorite character and I'm really looking forward to seeing her in the reboot. MJ's great too, though.

I want to see this scene in film

Holy cow..I just now see that there's a SNAP! written on the panel where the web catches her leg. How cruel.

Does he accidentally snap Gwen's neck while catching her with the web or does the Goblin kill her first?

She died from whiplash caused by Spider-Man's webbing and its elasticity.

I'm not entirely sure it was ever proven what killed her. The whiplash from spidey's web definitely broke her neck though. There's been 3 theories over the years...

1) The broken neck killed her
2) she was dead before the goblin knocked her off the bridge
3)The shock of the fall, killed her.

It is the first one. Why there would be that snap sound if it isn't the reason?

Because her neck would have snapped weather she was already dead or not. Also, it's a bit of controversy as to who's responsible for actually putting the little snap there and if it was last minute or not.

If you ask me, I've always looked at it as she was unconcious when she was thrown off the bridge and the kneck break killed her.

She was unconscious before she was thrown. How would she die of shock when she couldn't even register it. I understand that Goblin said she died before he even caught her, but I believe that was a mistake on the writer's behalf. Hell, in the issue in which she died the writers themselves wrote that it was Spidey's fault that she died. That's why it was so revolutionary and groundbreaking and heartbreaking, really; Not only did the hero fail, but she died at his hands.

...and this!

It must have been a mistake, because I think it would be pretty weird if Goblin says to Spidey that he had killed her before. I mean, even if he HAD done that, it would be perfect for him to just "play along" and let Spidey think it was the whiplash that killed her. Goblin saying to Spidey that she was already dead would be like saying "Hey Spidey, it wasn't your fault, don't blame yourself!". Spidey thinking that he himself killed her is maximum pain.

Oh and btw, this event is so epic beyond words that I think if done perfectly, it would beat anything that has ever been shown in a superhero movie. Yes, that includes TDK.

I agree. Everyone tries to cite Rachel's death in TDK as the "It's been done before." moment, but Rachel died at the hands of the villain, and while tragic, it doesn't even hold a ****ing candle to the death of Gwen Stacy.

This is particularly why I want her death to be in the final film of the franchise. Sure, the trilogy would end on a somber, almost depressing note, but it would set the film apart from others forever, really. It would shock the general audience after letting them fall in love with the character for almost 3 films. I think it would rock the cinematic world just like it did the comic world in the 1960s.

Picture this:

It's TASM 3 and Norman Osborn has been set up as the ultimate villain for 3 films spanning nearly 6 years. The hero's love interest is being held captive at the top of the George Washington Bridge and the audience is gearing up for another heroic save. The Green Goblin drops Gwen, it seems as though Spider-Man has saved her. He pulls her up but she won't wake up. He begs and pleads for Gwen to wake up but she won't. The Goblin arises in the background laughing. He taunts Spider-Man/Peter for being so smart yet not being able to realize that he had just caused her death. Peter, so saddened that he can barely move, swears revenge on the Goblin as he escapes. The scene ends with Peter holding Gwen in his arms.

Obviously the movie would end after Spider-Man found Goblin and beat him down. At this point Mary Jane should have been introduced, but not as a love interest. Simply as a friend to both Peter AND Gwen. There could be a scene towards the end of the film after Spidey's encounter with Goblin has been resolved where Mary Jane and Peter are comforting each other over the loss of their friend. A "1 Year Later" screen could show up and Mary Jane and Peter are studying together. Peter eventually asks Mary Jane out on a date and she accepts.

That's my ideal ending to the trilogy as it is very bittersweet and would leave a mark on CBMs forever. It also reminds me a bit of the (500) Days of Summer ending which would be a cool similarity between Marc Webb's works.

I would advise against putting her death in the very last film, because, personally, I would rather see that followed up on. It would mean more if there are films after it to explore its impact on the characters. There are so many possible directions to go from there, that to end it there would be a missed opportunity. It would be like if Marvel had cancelled all the Spider-Man comics after Amazing Spider-Man #122, and we never got to see any of the stories that took place after it.

^^ Agreed.

Good to see that someone agrees with me. I definitely like my idea of following up Gwen Stacy's death with the symbiote saga, but there are plenty of other ideas one could use as well. You could use plots like Harry Osborn taking up his father's legacy, the Clone Saga, and so many more.

Those stories can be explored in the next reboot. We saw a story with Mary Jane as the love interest so far. If this franchise is looking to make a mark of any kind, ending it with Gwen's death would be one hell of a way to do so.

I love the fact we have many storylines to choose from that are actually movie potential. Lets just hope the writers can use them wisely.

The thing is, why start over to tell those stories when the set-up is already done? Ending with Gwen's death would be like if Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy ended with TDK. I'd be left wondering "What happens next?" and then be disappointed that the story would never be followed up on outside of fan-fiction.

The way I see it, Gwen's death would itself be a hell of a way to make a mark, but don't end there. The potential of where you can go from there is too great to pass up, in my opinion.

Ending the whole franchise on a sombre note is not something I want for Spider-Man.

We already got something similar in Spider-Man 3.

I have no problem ending the franchise on a sombre note, my problem would be ending the series with so many stories worth telling. This is one of the things I didn't like about rebooting the franchise after Spider-Man 3.

Somber for spiderman 3 then for spiderman 4 i want it to end with triumph and spidey knowing he can do it all because he spiderman. Basically "this is my gift, my curse." And he will live with this responsibility and powers for the rest of his life. Then a BADA** fast paced final swing

The final movie in the franchise should end on a positive note, not a negative one.

I want a final swing or something triumphunt in at least the final movie.
