When I was a kid...

When I was a kid:

- You weren't cool unless you wore your clothes on backwards.
- I was 2 Legit 2 Quit
- The cool kids had the new school foods like Teddy Grahams ("Oh won't you be my Teddy Graham?"), Squeeze-its, Gushers, Ecto Cooler Hi-C, etc.
- Slap Bracelets, swatches, backpacks, etc were allowed in school
- Oregan Trail and Number Crunchers was the only thing I knew how to do on a computer.
- It was SHOCKING whenever you RARELY heard anyone use the word "Damn" on TV or in a song.
- I couldn't beat a game to save my life...unless I had my handy Game Genie and all the latest cheats from the back of "Gamepro Magazine".
- The only way to get your comic news was from "Wizard Magazine", and you never knew what next month's comic would be about or what the cover would look like until you reached the letters page in the back of this month's book.
- Trading cards came with chewing gum inside.
- I was a Flintstone Kid. 10 Million Strong...and growing.
- Knowing was only half of the battle.
- I actually had phone numbers other than my own memorized.
- Game controllers had, at most, 1 directional pad, 6 buttons, Start, and Select.
- SNICK ROCKED
- McDonald's Happy Meals came in cardboard boxes that you could transform into a freaking castle!

I had Teddy Grahams and Ecto Cooler all the dang time

...and I was nothing close to being a "cool kid".

When I was a kid...

We had milkshakes, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, pizzas, and fries REGULARLY on the lunch menu in school. I had some combination of those foods almost everyday (as did many others), and very few of us were overweight.

And I LOVED ecto cooler hi-c!

When I was a kid...

Teletubbies ruled the world, Pinky & the Brain tried to rule the world, and I always asked Where in the world was Carmen San Diego.

P.S. when I was a kid...UFO pants were ruling the middle school/ high school rooms and Lindsay Lohan was not a dirty girl, literally.

TV announcers told you to ask your parents permission before using the phone if you were going to call for an offer. Now kids of any age have cell phones.

When I was a kid...

Soda came in glass bottles.

There were pictures of missing kids on the back of milk cartons, which tended to freak us out thanks to the "Adam" tv movie that aired on NBC and scared the crap out of us.

My first lunchbox had The Muppet Show on it, and my last was from Gremlins.

I was the first kid in my class to see Return of the Jedi, because my mom surprised us after school and took us to see it on opening night. :awesome:

They used to re-release classic Disney movies in the theater.

.

They should put pictures of missing transvestites on the back of cartons of half and half.

I remember that. My parents took me to see Snow White and The Rescuers.

I saw those too. The Rescuers was a double-feature with Mickey's Christmas Carol.

I remember seeing 101 Dalmations, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Mary Poppins in the theater when I was a kid too.

I forget what movie it was but it started late and the theater showed the Mickey Mouse version of The Prince and the Pauper. Dad wasnt happy, as he could barely stand one cartoon, much less two. :oldrazz:

Edit: According to imdb, it was released with The Rescuers Down Under.

You could walk down the street late at night and your parents wouldn't worry.
The only time you heard the word "terrorist" was in the movies, and even then it was rare.
The 21st century seemed so far away and only the stuff of movies.
Going to Toys R Us felt like going to Disney World....in Heaven.

Ahh and in the 80's I remember McDonald's one time having plastic containers in the shape of submarine/boats that floated on water, very cool.

-oh and McDonald's mini chocolate chip cookies came in boxes.

You could buy comics at a Toy-R-Us or local supermarket.

When I was a kid,

-The Arcade was down the street and not on X-Box live

-There was no X-Box Live or PlayStation Network, We had The Sega Channel

-You had to order Pay Per Views by phone and you had to tune in at a specific time or you missed the show.

- Tivoing your favorite show meant having your mom tape a ****load of cartoons on to a VHS that you had probably taped over a hundred times.

-People thought Todd McFarlane was talented

-Superman was dead, Batman was broken, and Spider-Man had an awesome mullet

-People thought that the "Air bubble" in Nikes made you jump higher

- Surge (the soda) was rumored by 12 year old boys across the world to make your penis small.

-The Pizza from Friday Nights Pizza night tasted better on Saturday morning while watching the new episode of X-Men.

-Nickelodeon and the Disney Chanel were actually pretty awesome

-Animated films were hand drawn and more often than not had Robin Williams as the voice of a wacky sidekick.

until about 3 years ago they did the same thing for internet offers "Ask your parents and go online" none of that anymore. lol.

For those of you on a Disney kick...

When I was a kid, I saw The Fox and The Hound at the drive-in!

We still have a drive in theater here in Atlanta. Haven't been to it in a while. Last time I went to see a movie there was for Gremlins. Now you have to wear kevlar just to buy a ticket at the gate. There is a truck depot next door to it and my dad used to be night security there and one time he heard someone shooting uzis nearby.

When I was a kid we were stuck in traffic somewhere in the Bronx and we watched the original Star Wars on a drive-in screen that we could see from the car until traffic started moving again. We couldn't hear it, but it was still awesome.
