When I was a kid...

When I was a kid...

...I saw Back to the Future on opening weekend, and we all made fun of our parents for being "old" because they remembered so much of the 50s stuff.

...today my friends' kids watch Back to the Future and they make fun of us for being "old" because we remember so much of the 80s stuff.

...that hurt me in my soul :(

It hurts me too... :csad:

Now if parents act like parents, they're considered abusive.

Sad, isn't it?

Saturday morning cartoons were actually good

MTV played actual music videos...wow

My atari 2600 was the greatest thing evah..then my sega genesis, followed by my nintendo

ALL ****ING DAY LONG, no reality tv, i miss those days :csad:

Hey now...Real World USED TO BE good.

When I was a kid, the principle was still allowed to discipline kids at school. That wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was that the principle called home and the disciplining would continue almost as soon as I walked in the door.

TV's came in wooded boxes and you could only change the channel with the nob.

With those TV's you only got 3 network channels and maybe 4 local ones, and no one complained.

It was a big deal if you had a TV in your bedroom.

The Atari 2600 was the coolest game system on earth. And then you saw the original NES and was blown away.

Kids played outside after school and all summer long.

VCR's cost $500, no one knew what a DVD was, and Laser Disc players where out of most people's price range

There were cool cartoons on Saturday morning that you were willing to wake up at 6am for.

Pro Wrestling was only on Saturday or Sunday morning and was never live.

The only phone in the house was in the kitchen and had a cord. Phones had to be bought from the phone company.

If you wanted to know who was calling you had to answer the phone.

Cellphones were huge and only people with lots of money had them.

You could be spanked at school

No one got ticked off if you copied a record on to a cassette tape and shared it with your friends.

Music came in the form of records, 8 tracks and cassettes.

You had to read a newspaper to get your news.

Michael Jordan had his own burger at McDonald's

The Pittsburgh Pirates had a good team

Sitcoms were the thing to watch

You couldn't wait till Friday because of Friday Night Videos, and Chiller Theater

MTV played music videos not shows about team moms

The only team mom show was an after school special that was shown once or twice.

Comic Books cost 30 cents

Seeing Star Wars in the theater was an event to remember

Steve Austin was the name of the lead character on The Six Million Dollar Man and not the name of some meathead wrestler.

When I was a kid we would play STICK BALL!

Men with long hair, ear rings and black leather jackets were tough guys.

- When I was a kid Papa Roach, Outkast and Chingy were the greatest and every song wasn't some dumb autotuned club single
- Everyone played Yu-Gi-Oh! with their friends instead of call of duty
- Kids were actually kids
- If you had Go-Gurt in your lunch bag you were considered an icon
- There were these Electronic Screaming monster type toys everyone wanted
- Everyone was patriotic and worked hard and worked together in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy

When I was a kid...

My siblings and I had to amuse ourselves on road trips. We didn't have tvs or game systems come standard on our car.

When I was a kid....video stores handed you the tapes from the shelves behind their front desk. It gave my young self a sense of mystery of the power behind the counter :wow:

Then later they had em right there on the shelf, no more waiting for the clerk to search the back.

Nowadays I don't know how they do it, I haven't been to said store in a few years.

Do you know how many songs I know? Barry Manilow? Air Supply? Chicago?

Because I hat to sit my ass in the back during long cart trips and had to listen to the Lite FM stations constantly. :(

One time young Erz was All out of Love, but then..he met Mandy, said Baby What a Big Surprise, and he was then Lost In Love.

:awesome:

I remember that too man!

I remember our favorite video store had shelves and shelves of tapes. One one wall were all the new releases. On the other were all the Nintendo games

Wednesdays were the best because Nintendo rentals were only a dollar a day!

I did not know beauty since Tom Brady had not yet starting playing Football.

The Red Sox were still cursed

If you wanted to call someone they'd better have been home at the time

You had to have a friend with a black box if you wanted to watch Pr0n

Any friends I had I saw regularly, hung out with every chance I got, and I could never "poke" them via computer to keep up with them

When I was a kid...

The Cincinnati Reds were world champions.

When I was a kid the Chicago Cubs were terrible.

Ouch, my daughter gives me grief when I bring up the 80s or when we watch older movies and I reminisce. :csad:

A few years before this, where I'm from, our regional pro-wrasslin entertainment came from the WCCW, and it ruled all (well for us it did), and from what I remembered they were aired live.

Of course WWF/E came along and took over everything.

USA network use to have Gilbert Gottfried host on Saturdays cheap movie classics like Toxic Avenger and Surf Nazis Must Die.

When I was a kid, we were allowed to stand up in the front seat and look over the front dash board at the road as it went under the car. That was super fun and exciting. Parents and police are too uptight these days.
