It's not that I don't like the Domino mask, it's just unnecessary when he is in space. I mean, who would he need to hide his identity from, he is just an alien like everyone else in the Lantern Core. What makes him so different to have a mask? Now then, if they establish a need for it in the JLA, like when he is on earth for whatever reason. Then it would be fine. Other than that, we should be able to see Hal Jordan face, he isn't Batman lol.

Personally, I like the mask, and if it's Hal or Kyle, I'd prefer they keep it on, but I'd like to see them do what they did in the recent GL animated TV show. It was kind of a running gag, people were saying the same exact things to Hal quite a lot - "What's up with the mask?".

The mask was the worst part of the GL movie suit but it can be done well, the GL movie mask proves nothing

If they do keep the mask, Ill be fine with it. I'm not gonna hate it cause he has the domino mask (GL is one of my favorite superheros for christ sake). IMO in order to adapt something like Green Lantern into a feature film (without bombing) you must have a reason for everything you put in the movie, everything must have a function and a understanding that can be reached to the audience. If they can make the domino mask function with a purpose, then I'm all for it. Other than that, you must have clarity as to why the Lanterns look the way they do and how the suit operates. Hence why the 2011 film was so mind numbingly stupid, cause they expected you to just say "okay, yeah....this ALL makes sense" without any explanation. This is also the reason why the Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel are intriguing films, cause they make you say "huh, I can see how that can work" or "you know, they clearly put a lot of effort into making this world sensible". I mean look at the Man of Steel bonus feature and see the 'History of Krypton' they made for the blu-ray. You can watch all that and see the movie again and be like "wow, everything is the way it is for a REASON" not just because it looks cool or is traditional.

Pretty much. The mask looks silly and just doesn't work as the sole means of disguising one's face outside of comic books or cartoons. They're cops. Cops don't wear domino masks. If they want the corps to be taken seriously, they gotta leave that kinda stuff out or have an airtight reason for it. If they can scrap the trunks for icons like Supes &Bats, they can dead the silly mask with no problem.

Silly?

I guess Nightwing, Robin, Batwoman, Green Arrow, etc shouldn't wear domino masks either...

Cops don't wear anything Green Lanterns wear.

Wrong. Cops wear boots ,pants, gloves etc. Guy's costume is rather motorcycle cop-like. Hal's mask isn't essential. What reason can be given for it other then him wearing it in the comics?

Nightwing is one of my favorites, but I'd hope they play up how he only operates in the dark to make it seem more plausible. I have no desire to see Robin in a film. I'm not a fan of the whole kid sidekick thing, especially in live action. Batwoman wears one? I like Ollie best w/the hood covering him

Some cops wear gloves, but it's not like they're a standard part of the uniform. I'm sure some cops have worn masks on occasion too. Same with boots, they usually wear shoes. And generally Green Lanterns don't wear pants, they wear a full body suit. Also cop clothes are generally made of fabric and not light.

Superman's cape serves even less of a function than Green Lantern's mask, but hey, that's still there.

I don't care for Supes cape, I like most of his costumes without it much better. I'm honestly not a fan of Supes. However, I recognize that Supes is an icon &his cape is iconic. Hal's mask doesn't have that going for it either.Yes, some cops wear masks, such as SWAT team or special task force units. I said cops don't wear domino masks. No cops wear domino masks, period. No organization I can think of does. Motorcycle cops have boots as a standard part of the uniform, as do mounted police.

One funny thing about the masks is it seems like everyone in the entire DC universe knows that Hal and Kyle are Green Lanterns, so in that sense, the masks do seem a bit silly. But I think it complete the look for them at least.

By the same token of "I said domino masks. Not masks." They're space cops. Not space motorcycle cops or space mounted cops. :o

Still doesn't make much sense. The guy he got the ring from didn't wear a domino mask. IIRC the guys who trained him don't either. It's something Hal's pretty much always done so you're used to it, but can you honestly say the domino mask is a necessity in live action?

He doesn't want people to know who he is and it looks cool. Makes perfect sense.

The guy he got the ring from didn't wear a domino mask.

He wasn't on his home planet.

IIRC the guys who trained him don't either.

They weren't on their home planet. Sinestro wore one on Korugar. There are some who don't care about the identity thing, so they never wear one. But there are plenty that do. Hal likes it, so he always leaves it on. Kyle likes it, so he always leaves it on.

It's something Hal's pretty much always done so you're used to it, but can you honestly say the domino mask is a necessity in live action?

It's not necessary. Nothing is, really. Since you're creating a new version of this universe and can remove or include whatever you want. But there's no reason not to keep it.

Domino masks worked fine for The Comedian and Arrow.

Other Lanterns, and not just Kyle, have worn them too. There have been times when GLs discuss this and some of them feel the need to protect their families by concealing their identities. Sinestro even wore a mask like Hal's in a couple of the origin stories.

The mask was the worst part of the GL movie suit but it can be done well, the GL movie mask proves nothing

I didn't think the mask was bad, but it should have been black. I would have liked to have GL talk about the green parts of his uni being hot and the black being cold.

:pal:

When Hal and Kyle were involved in earth-based stories in Vol 2, Emerald Dawn, New Dawn, Secret Origin, they each took great pains to hide their identities. In Hal's earliest incarnations, his GL persona was a gregarious local celebrity, while his normal existence as Hal was focused on his career.

Look, let's end this debate like this. When he is in space (mostly in his Green Lantern solo movies) he doesn't wear the mask. When he is on Earth (mostly dealing with JL or coming back to Earth as Green Lantern) he wears the mask.

Except if we eventually see Kyle. Logical or not, Kyle's crab mask is sweet and should be shown as much as possible. :woot:

I like Kyle's first outfit, but i still love this^ one tooo

If they were to give him lenses (white eyes) it could be some sort of high tech goggles.

They shouldn't even try to pass that idea that it can hide someone's identity as it's silly, and visually googles surely beat just the domino mask with an eye holes.

Something like this might work well for live action.. and sort of looks like something a space cop or future cop would wear.. maybe change the white to grey or green. This would also allow it to distinguish itself from the reynolds version, I really hope they make necessary changes and make him more like a police officer like and not a superhero. So I really love the visor look and think it will be suitable. I know everyone will rant that its lame or that it's not close to the comics, but seriously the domino mask makes him look like a lame superhero (which he is in the reynolds movie and comics). BUT they can make him different in the film versions like what they have done with the X-men and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I know this is a female but some of the stuff should be implemented in the new suit

some of elements of this redesign can be implemented.

Along with this

Just post multiple images in one post instead of multiple posts with single images. and i gotta say none of the redesigns you've posted are doing anything for me. They're different, but they don't improve on the original designs at all.

For Hal, I'd go with something along the lines of his First Flight suit, or something along the lines of that unused Green Lantern movie concept art I posted recently.

As far as the mask goes, I'm fine with mask or no mask, but I prefer a mask if we're getting Kyle or Hal. It's not the most integral part of the design, but there's no reason to get rid of it when Hal or Kyle are on earth, when they actually need to protect their identity.

No offense, but the bunch of designs posted on the last couple of pages are, IMO, absolutely awful.
