Justice League The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Thread - Part 1

What was the reasoning behind having a CGI suit?

I can’t remember exactly. I know they wanted it to look alien and completed constructed from light like everything else the ring produces. I can’t recall if there were other considerations though.

The suit looking like a full on light construct was a great concept and made total sense, but ya know, best laid plans and what not.

What is there to clarify, he'd spend a decade mocking that role just to get back to it? The fact that there's people who actually take what Grace says at face value is more worrisome though.

Dude he made fun of his horrible Deadpool in XMOW as well. He likes the character, but disliked the movie. This is a wonderful opportunity to redeem himself as GL.
I’m so for it. I think there’s something to this rumor.

I also think everyone knows the Reynolds thing could not pan out. But it's fun to speculate. Like the most fun DC fans have had since what...the lead up to MoS? Plus it ain't like the seeds haven't already been planted in the live action multiverse.

Well Reynolds always said he was open to returning to the role if someone like Nolan was involved.

Agreed 9 out of 10 he might not be in this movie. I'm just a little happy about the rumors because that movie IMO gets a bad rap and it always seemed like it could've fit in all the DC movies be it Flyby, Superman Returns or DCEU. I'm just saying I enjoyed that movie more than I did Captain Marvel or BOPINO.

I still think the suit looked good but there was room for improvement.

I liked what they were going for. Johns had been doing his JL run and he was the first that I'm aware of to explain that the suits were pure energy. He even described it as warm in the light green areas and cool in the dark green areas. So the idea of these energy suits was weird at first but I came to like it. I also liked the idea the GL's were effectively bioweapons, so the movie showing us that Hal's biostructure had to be modified just shows that GLs aren't just beings with a special ring but that on a cellular level they are different, and as long as they have the ring, they can do special things.

The movie, however, either didn't put enough thought into how to make it all work or the special effects just wasn't there yet. So it did feel a bit cartoonish. The idea was good though, imo.

I still can't comprehend on why anyone thought that it would be a good idea to do a Green Lantern movie that primarily takes place on Earth where his role as a space cop wasn't utilized... like at all.

We should have gotten something akin to Star Trek meets Guardians of the Galaxy.

I hated that part of it but that would likely have been fixed from the sequel onwards. :csad:

Yeah, the idea was definitely interesting and it’s a shame it wasn’t executed better. A future GLC needs to learn the lessons from the first film which had a lot more potential on screen than I remembered before my recent rewatch. A real shame that they couldn’t make it work back then as it could have setup a lot of great stuff to come.
