Which Green Lantern should be used? - Part 2

Well, all your arguments against John hasn't stopped the likes of other characters in the same "situation" from having good or great films. So, same could happen with him if the studio felt like using him. Plus, the Hal had the things you brought up earlier and it didn't exactly work out for him.

If you don't like John, that's fine. You can just leave it at that. Not much need to justify it.
bottom line is that Hal as he exists now clearly has a lot more going for him than John as he exists now.

Hal as the lead brings a lot more to the table, but with John there is potential to morph him into a character that is worthy of leading the GL franchise. As he is now, i don't think he's a strong enough character. It's a pretty glaring problem how he lacks a clear nemesis. He's set on the love interest dept, but beyond the hero, the villain is the most important aspect to get right.

Sinestro/Hal all day. If you're doing a GL franchise, Sinestro has to be a primary villain, he's the Joker to Hal's Batman. And you really can't do Sinestro right without Hal, unless they merge John and Hal

None of that really matters if a writer comes up a good idea with anyone other than Hal that the studio likes, especially when you're dealing with a concept with the scope as large as GL. The possibilities are pretty much endless.

I've already explained why I would prefer Guy to be the GL we get in the DCCU, but having a GL movie about the GL corps would be the best bet imo. There is so much potential.

If we get Guy, I doubt it'll ever just be without John or Hal by his side.

That being said, I love Guy, and I would be totally down if he was the first GL to appear in Justice league.

I'm sure you are right. I hope we will at least see him in a great supporting role in the GL movie.

By that logic we should be supporting Kilowog as the movie GL because hey, if a good writer comes up with a good story for him, the possibilities are endless right?

Were on completely different pages here. John over Hal is the same as using Terry over Bruce or Wally over Barry. You gotta do the first legacy hero before getting to the other guys

I got to say, he is determined. I almost want him to get the part just for that alone.

And no, you DON'T need to do Hal first. Lets look at the changes that the DCCU has already made from the source material:

-Lois Lane is in on Superman's secret from the beginning.
-Superman meets Batman for the FIRST time when Batman is already approaching middle-age.
-Wonder Woman may be centuries-old.
-Superman is the youngest/least experienced of the Trinity.
-Deadshot and Perry White are both being played by Black men.
-Aquaman is being played by a Polynesian man.
-Etc.
So no, having more than one Earth GL is not that big a stretch.

A character being played by an actor of a different race and certain characters meeting at different points in their lives isn't really the same thing as disregarding the main character of an entire universe.

They very well could change it, it's possible they could even do a good job. But throwing out the character at the center of the entire mythology with all of the storylines, supporting cast, villains, and relationships with the League is a much more drastic change than making Perry White a black guy or slightly raising the amount of years Bruce and Clark have been out of high school before meeting.

I'm hoping that they ditch the idea of the suit being emitted from the ring for the next live action GL.
It's a cool idea and it works well enough in comics and cartoons but it just makes things overly complicated in live action.
It's always been really weird to me that his constructs are so obviously made of light/energy but his costume looks like multi colored solid material.

Something like this would be perfect imo.
Black physical bodysuit with the green parts of the uniform being constructed from light.

Again?? Wow, if nothing else, you gotta admire his tenacity. DC has always been so tight-lipped about their castings, they had Momoa deny it for a year, and Gal Gadot wasn't exactly posting about her Wonder Woman casting on her social media accounts. This guy has been going on about this for months and months. If there's any truth to it, then DC has changed their tactics a lot.

Heh finally someone besides lantern venom and I knows what theyre talking about.

If people here had more of an understanding of the canon and mythology, they would realize that Hal is the only necessary character for a proper GL franchise

Bro I totally get your views towards Hal and as a longtime fan, I do understand the GL mythos. The problem is studio executives do not share our views on the matter. They are not interested that Hal is the central character who offers all of this material. They only care about doing their job which is to make money off of these properties. So if the higher-up suits, who do not give a damn about what the character of Hal Jordan brings to the table, say during their production meetings: "Hey remember the black GL from the old animated show? He worked well on that show and he got popular, let's put him in the movies!", then that's what they are going to do. These people are not emotionally invested in the characters like we are. They only see dollar signs in them. When they could not get these dollar signs from Hal Jordan, due to their highly incompetent way of handling him, then they might just decide to go in a different direction, because they either think it's the easiest thing to do, or they don't know how to properly handle Hal, or for whatever reason. My main hope in this situation is Geoff Johns, because he legitimately loves the Hal Jordan character and the GL mythos, so if his word as a DC executive has any weight in these decisions, we just might see Hal again.

Oh yeah, just speaking the utter truth.

I don't think you know how to spell nonsense.

John has no signature stories...

Mosaic and Cosmic Odyssey.

a weak supporting cast

Nothing a decent screenwriter couldn't fix.

and he has no personal connection to any decent villains.

Nothing a decent screenwriter couldn't fix.

Who has all of those things in spades?

It doesn't matter. What I questioned was your assertion that John couldn't make for a decent lead because he doesn't have any personal ties to any decent villains. That is, without a doubt, one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen anyone say on the subject.

They're not "throwing Hal out," stop exaggerating. If the rumors are to be believed, then Hal is in the movie. It's just that John is there as well. So what you're really whining about is that the film might not SOLELY focus on Hal, which:

-They tried to do once, and failed.
-Would just annoy all of the non-Hal GL fans (of which their are many). This fanbase already cannibalizes itself enough as it is (which this very thread has already shown).

Plus John HASN'T already had a film centered around him that's bombed within the last five years.

The hardcore GL fans like Hal and Kyle

John Stewart only has fans because of JL TAS

Cosmic Odyssey and Mosaic are two hypeless storylines that never get mentioned because they are overshadowed by all the amazing Hal and Kyle stories that actually made an impact on the canon and mythos

I'm not exaggerating. Not needing Hal at all is the way your post read to me. If that's not what you mean, fair enough.

My personal choice would be Hal – but I like John too, going back to the days of Dave Gibbons artistic run on GL comic.

Obviously due to the last film being a major disappointment a full reboot is needed – I posted in the JL forum a scenario I could see working.
Basically, due to the events of MOS - namely the reappearance of the supposedly extinct race of Kryptonians and the devestation caused in Metropolis/Earth, the Guardians send the GL of sector 2814 to check it out – that ring-slinger is Abin Sur. There could be some history between Kryptonians and the GL Corps due to the Kryptonians trying to terraform the universe in the past. Abin Sur could turn up at the very beginning of the first JL film (though the end of BvS would be better, after credits) and upon getting to Earth is killed - thus having his ring head to Earth to find his successor.
This eliminates the need for a solo GL film to be an origin story, and would allow Hal to have the first JL film to discover the rings power... at the end of that film more GL's (Killawog and Tomar Re) show up and take him to Oa – the solo GL film would then be entirely space-based, before GL returns to Earth for JL 2.

So now you're saying that you can't be a "hardcore" fan of the Green Lantern mythology if your favorite Lantern isn't Hal or Kyle?

Keep on digging that hole, dude.

Cosmic Odyssey and Mosaic are

Signature stories, which you claimed John didn't have. Don't try and move the goalposts now that you've been proven wrong.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous.
John is an amazing character, and it would be great to have him in the movies.

It's really a matter of right and wrong here. You all can see what you want to, but there is no doubt in any logical persons mind that Hal is THE GL, he is the central character in that universe, not using him would limit the movies potential so much

John belongs in a movie. As a supporting character, just like the character was always intended to be
