It came down to Returns vs Begins. Ultimately, I went with Begins because the origin really hooked me.

BATNINJA VANISH! :ninja:

I really liked both.
But Begins wasn't that original

It fell back on source material (not exactly a bad thing), and lifted parts from Year One, The Man Who Falls and so on.

That and the ultra classic aristothelic way of telling the original ala STM.

burtons Returns was the most original IMO. everything else was more typical action stuff, even begins. Returns was Art.

I don't see how you could describe any of them as typical action stuff. Action seems fairly low on the list of importance for all three Batman directors.

Batman Returns, definetely

this truly is a toss up between batman returns and batman beyond rotj

I don't know if BTAS is getting enough credit here, I mean they reinvented Batman and created a lot of original ideas that became mainstays in the Bat-mythos.

Although Timm and co. didn't take as many stylistic departures from Batman as Burton, they still had just as many original ideas and additions which were so good they've become canon.

All that said, I can agree that Burton's films and RotJ are the most original in terms of representation and reinvention. But I think that MotP is being a little underrated here.

EDIT: I voted for Batman 89 because it came first. Because Returns was a continuation of a lot of the same themes and motifs of Batman 1989, I don't think that it is the most original. Batman 89 was the first movie that presented a darker Batman to mainstream audiences and began the shift (from a standpoint of the general audience) towards acceptance of a darker, grittier, Batman rather than the 1966 Adam West era.

Also people seem to before getting that using a black rubber suit, the bat mobile, the bat cave and everything like that had never been done before, thats why i think 89 is the most original.

im not saying B89 was not original, because i LOVE that movie, but Returns style, script, even the villians themselves were much more unique and creative then the '89 film.

I think we can all agree that the least original is B&R, as it is simply an inferior rerun of Batman Forever.

Even Poison Ivy's entry is like Catwoman's from Returns.

Although Catwoman's was kinda like the Joker's :O
