Hi guys. As the title asks, "Which previous superhero movie should serve as a model for the new reboot?"

IMO, I think the first Spider-man is perfect (maybe that's why it did so well). It wasn't too philosophical (like Superman Returns or Batman Begins) or sappy (like Spider-man 3), it included the origin story but ALSO a villian so that Spider-man had something to punch (many times over).

That being said, maybe the origin for Supes could be shortened/bypassed for a deeper story.

Though I liked Spider-man 2 better than the first one, I think the first Spider-man was a perfect example of how to start a franchise. Also, even though Batman Begins was my favourite superhero movie of the 2000's, I don't want Superman to go down that psychological route. Everyone has something to say about him, but I think what's more needed is some good ole' lighthearted, action-packed fun. That's not to say it should be camp.

What do you think?

None. Superman needs to be his own thing instead of catching other movies success. Treat the character and his universe with respect and the numbers will follow! That's all I ask.

that's right. superman is a leader. not a follower.

I agree...5/10 years from now let the others model their films off of Superman.

They don't call him the Big Blue Boy Scout for nothing ya know?!!

yeah, Superman should lead...never follow

Dam right he should, Spiderman is the one stealing from Superman *cough* shirt rip *cough*...........oh sorry I mean a homage.

Spider-Man only wishes he could do a shirt rip as awesome as Superman does!

The thread is more about story structure, guys...

batman begins. watch BB and TDK and then watch spider-man or iron man, nolan makes the marvel movies look like high school projects

I say they shouldn't look at anything but the comics as inspiration. If it's an origin movie, use Birthright as the main inspiration... just like Year One was the main inspiration for BB.

But if Snyder is one of those directors that MUST look at other movies for inspiration, I would say use Rocky (the first one) as an inspirational film for portraying Clark's conflicts, and his final decision to become Superman. Watching that movie is the perfect portrayal of someone overcoming their fears, emotions, abilities & inabilities, and then conquering in the end by becoming the person they were meant to be all along. Which, if this is an origin movie, needs to happen for Clark.

However a big part of me hopes that this is NOT an origin movie (which was also reported), and if that's true then the Rocky interpretation would not apply.

HELL YES! I love what your going with here.

I would also like it too look at JJ Abrams Star Trek.

I was going to say the same thing. I hope they go with cinematography similar to what was employed in Abram's Star Trek. I loved the rich color palette in that movie.

JJ Abrams Star Trek was amazing, I'm hoping the Superman movie is as enjoyable as that was.

I certainly hope it makes more sense though. ST was a conundrum wrapped in an enimga...plotwise.

The cinematography
The tone
The dialouge
The villian plot and the fact that the villian won a round
The ability too take the original story and put a twist on it

This! Now outside of a superhero movie I would say a combination of Lawrence of Arabia, Diehard, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

:supes:

True, but Superman only wishes he could make 821,000,000 with a film that has a budget of 140 million. I still don't understand how Spider-Man is more popular than Supes, I just can't see why.

I'd say what the first Star Wars movie was to 1977 then. Epic, great hero, great villain, great supporting cast, great special effects, great story, lots of FUN and very successful..

Because the makers of Spider-Man stayed true to his mythos. In Superman the same villain appeared 4 out of five times and 2 of the movies made up a new villain. Superman's mythos totally abandoned.

I agree with all of these, if Superman leads the Justice League, why would he steal from Spider-Man?

Because Spidey stole from Superman. He's not more popular, he's a rip-off.
