Which rogues galleries in Marvel need a revamp? I would say Iron Man and the Fantastic Four's rogues gallery need a revamp, there are a lot of undeveloped villains in those rogues galleries.

Moon Knight definitely needs some rogues revamped, or to just have some new ones period.

Daredevil also needs a few more so it isn't always a Kingpin/Bullseye/Hand cycle.

I would agree with Daredevil and I think Mark Waid has commented on how he would not use Kingpin or ninjas any time soon. I think there are DD villains from the Silver Age and the 80s could be easily revamped to fit the modern Daredevil. Purple Man was already revamped, Typhoid Mary is an interesting villain and Mr. Hyde, Bushwacker and Bullet, etc. all have potential.

The problem is that for a lot of villains in Marvel, they don't have their specific enemy anymore. Dr. Doom, for instance, is still known as the FF's arch, but he's just as likely to square off against the Avengers, and was the big bad during the Black Panther's last title before his current one.

Spider-Man and the X-Men are the only ones that really have distinct rogues galleries.

The Hand, the Wrecking Crew, Kingpin, etc. can be pretty much anyone's enemy now.

I don't think that's true, while Dr. Doom appears in other titles, he has more history and chemistry with the FF then anyone else, battles between Spidey and Doom do not carry the same emotional weight as battles between Doom and the FF.

Also there tons of villains who have mainly stuck to one hero, I mean how is say Controller or Mandarin or Whiplash not Iron Man villains? Since is Mole Man not an FF villain? Do I think some villains in a rogues gallery have underutilized, but that is a different problem. Just because some villains guest star in other books doesn't mean they have switched rogues galleries, in order for that to happen they have appear in another book more often then the one they started in and have stronger rivalry with this new hero then the one they started with.

When was the last time you saw Controller or Whiplash? And yes, Mandarin showed up a few years ago to fight Iron Man, but again, not someone who pops up a lot anymore. And the last time I recall seeing Mole Man, which was a year and a half or two years ago, he was fighting the Skaar and Bruce Banner.

The Avengers definitely need theirs revamped. Since the relaunch the Avengers have fought an alternate version of Apocalypse's Horseman and the Hood while managing to not fight Kang and Ultron. The New Avengers fought demons, and The Secret Avengers are fighting the Shadow Council. At least the kids at Avengers Academy went up against Whirlwind, Mentallo and the Absorbing Man.......

I do agree that there has been some overlap with rogues lately, or heck, even since ACTS OF VENGEANCE in the 90's. But there's no excuse not to try, especially with some of those obscure ones.

It is funny how Mr. Hyde has evolved into a general Avengers villain now. Bullet has potential. Bushwacker has fought everyone from Wolverine to Punisher. I forgot about Typhoid Mary, and she's fresh off a stint with the Initiative before working for Kingpin again. There's also Death-Stalker, Gladiator, and Mr. Fear, at least if we are thinking biggies. Technically, the Ani-Men started out fighting Daredevil too. To a lessor extent there is also the Man-Bull, but he's seen some overlap as well, fighting Wolverine, Hulk, and Spider-Man since. Masked Marauder, a costumed mobster, shifted from DD to Spider-Man, too. The two of them swap villains like trading cards. Even Nuke has become a Wolverine add on.

The newer incarnation of the Matador isn't too bad.

The odd thing with DD is that quite a few of his enemies in the 70's who weren't his usual rogues mentioned above were weird sci-fi threats, many of whom died or haven't been much seen since. The time-flung robot schemer Mr. Kline comes to mind as an example.

DD could use a boost, but I honestly think Moon Knight needs it more. We can at least name a half dozen DD villains if not more. But Moon Knight? After Bushmaster and Midnight, it gets difficult. Like with DD to an extent, many of Moon Knight's rogues have either died or are bizarre one off creations. Behold, Xenos, a xenophobe who dresses like a rat! Or Dr. Friday, who uses some semi-magical potion to make people into pseudo zombies! Raptor, yet another armored guy with razor wings! Cajun Creed (no relation to Sabretooth or Gambit), a guy with Class 1 strength and an icepick! Bluebeard, a hyponotist who dresses like a 15th century pirate! Hey, Moon Knight DID take down Capt. Barracuda alongside the Secret Avengers in the recent past. Commodore Planet (not to be confused with Captain Planet), a guy with mystical/chemical strength boosting abilities who dresses like a wrestler cast on "LOVE BOAT". Or perhaps my favorite "one and done" Moon Knight villain - Conquer-Lord, a mobster who uses death traps like a Bond villain and dresses like some sort of alien Luchadore wrestler (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix4/conquerlordmk.htm). He also has a rat fetish - same as Indy Jones hates snakes, Moon Knight could hate rats. Maybe Xenos could team up with Conquer-Lord.

I'm just goofing around, and I haven't even mentioned the Hellbent, who were all over MK books in the 90's.

Controller showed up in the Iron Man: World's Most Wanted story in 2009, a new version Whiplash showed in his own mini around Iron Man 2's release and Mole Man showed up in the FF during Hickman's recent run in 2010. All pretty recent. So it seems like a lot of these villains do appear in the chosen hero's book. It seems like you missed some of these issues and based your assumptions on incomplete info.

Funny thing; C-List goon the Mauler, in armor, started out as a Daredevil villain. These days, he shows up for random Iron Man/Avengers brawls.

To a degree I don't mind heroes sharing villains and villains teaming up or fighting new adversaries; keeps things fresh and interesting. But there is something to be said for a regular gallery, as well as perhaps dusting off some of the one-note obscure types and building around them. For example, Fred Van Lente has crafted a fairly convincing murder mystery around a two-bit has been character, Crime-Buster, in POWER MAN & IRON FIST. He also made solid use of the Looter, and often forgotten Spidey foe.

Not really. It's well and good that they've actually gotten to face their traditional rivals, but the point remains that a lot of villains get passed around like a J at a Phish concert in Marvel nowadays.

I think some villains have been passed around, while others haven't. The problem exists but its not as big as you suggest. Some villains get passed around too much, while others are still members of their primary hero's rogues gallery, they are just underused. Since Iron Man doesn't have 4 ongoing titles like Spidey does, his villains are not going to get as much stories, that and they do not feature super villains in enough of Iron Man's stories.

I think the thing is, Mauler wouldn't really fit in with DD past the 1980s. DD has become something of a noir title, so the villains kinda have to fit that environment. That's why i think Mr. Hyde works better as a DD villain then an Avengers one, DD is better suited to a creepy, ghoulish character like Mr. Hyde then the avengers. Likewise Mauler is just some armored guy who robs banks, there is no real chemistry between him and DD at this point, he doesn't really fit. There doesn't really seem to be interesting or unique about Mauler, so understandable that DD writers wouldn't use him past the 80s. I don't think most of the over top sci fi villains would work in post 80s DD. I think DD should combine elements from super hero titles and noir, but both elements are needed.
