The Dark Knight Rises Which villians are MOST LIKELY to appear?

1) is the symbol of the main theme (scarecrow/fear, Joker/escalation)
2) needed no backstory but rather hit the ground running

So I would expect you would need someone who really embodies something thematic both visually and by actions that doesn't take a lot of story telling to get them established.

Good point. Since the theme for the third film will have to revolve around the hunt, Deadshot or Bane would fit this perfectly. Still, there needs to be a mastermind villain besides just the physical villain, which is where Mad Hatter, Penguin, or Riddler can come in.

Its obvious,IMO, that it would be a huge risk to throw in a villain that no one but fans will recognize. The movies are supposed to capture everyone not just fans. And so the easy choice is to go with the most recognizable villains: Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, Penguin and Mr. Freeze and seeing what Nolan is doing with the movies Mr. Freeze is pushing it.

If we had a Live Acton Tv show we could see all of them.

I think I have to disagree with ya on this one. After the success of the BB and TDK, the audience is pretty much automatic for the first viewing. What served them well was a solid story and great use of the characters chosen to tell it. They will most likely use one well known villian, but they can surely afford at least one little known villian, and if it was executed well will get repeat viewings. Another thing to consider...WB wants this to keep going, so why use up all the well known villians now? I would think it would be wiser to spread them out a bit as the stories dictate. I would think it's a bigger risk to pick a well known villian and try to build a story around them as opposed to get a good theme/plot/story and plug in the best fits.

Batman Begins disagrees.

Batman Begins disagrees.

I forgot about scarecrow but my point is still valid. Scarecrow is well known.

I don't see, Christin Bale sticking around for 101 batman villains. So it will end up in a different going in a completely different directions once Nolan and Bale are done.

I really doubt that. He's no Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, etc.

I'm sure BB was the character's introduction to a lot of non-geek people. Same for Ra's Al Ghul. Especially Ra's Al Ghul, I'd say.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight had villains that wanted to destroy Gotham by having it's people rip themselves to pieces. So the third film should logically have a villain that can do the same.

Yeah, your right about ra's al ghul. General viewers of batman, not strict fans, but people who have watched a few BTAS epesodes, like my dad, know who scarecrow is. Of course there are some, like my mom, that asked if he got his powers by getting bit by a bat. lol I think I laughed untill I cried.

:funny: priceless

I think The Riddler is the most likely to appear, simply cause a lot of people seem interested in that (Depp, Caine, Pearce)

Not the Riddler, based on that reason alone, lol.

I don't think he wants to be predictable.

Storywise, the next logical next steps would be Rupert Thorne and Catwoman.

Most likely:

Black Mask
Oswald Cobblepot
Dead Shot
Selina Kyle
Riddler
Talia Al Ghul
Bane

These are easily the most likely candidates for the next film.

- The newest leader of the crime families will NOT be a traditional gangster. Black Mask or Penguin will represent the mob element in the film. They represent that the Joker has changed the face of Gotham's organized crime. Even "organized" crime isn't organized any more. It's controlled by freaks.

- With Rachel Dawes dead, a natural love interest would be Catwoman or Talia. Talia is a logical story point to come finish the job her father could not. She could come to Gotham as a business woman doing business with Wayne Enterprises and it could be revealed, after she strikes up a relationship with Bruce, what her motives truly are.

- Catwoman would be a logical progression of the "copy-cats".

- Bane or Dead Shot could be hired mercenaries that are hired by either the mob element to take out Batman for the bounty, and their own gain. Or the cops could hire one of them and then find out that they have an agenda of their own.

- Edward Nashton could be hired as a private eye by the GCPD to locate and find out who the Batman is. After he is brought in, a cop killer is on the loose in Gotham. At each of the killings there are clues that seem to point to the Batman as the killer. When the clues are further inspected by the Batman himself he realizes that they are in fact clues for him and riddles challenging him to discover the true identity of the cop killer.

Um.. help me out here.. but.. could Maroni be back..?

It's pretty well accepted that he dies in the car accident in The Dark Knight. It's a natural progression now that there will be a more "freak" figure leading the mob. That, or there will be a mob war between the freak element and the "traditional" gangsters making a final stand for their city.

Sure, Eric Roberts is still alive.
I love how he says to Batman : "Have you met this guy ?" Brilliant comedic timing. That guy should be bigger than his sis and he might well be some day.

Probably
Scarecrow will make at least a cameo or work with...
The Black Mask - Realistic and a perfect way to bring an end to the gangs in Gotham
Riddler - Because everyone wants him done RIGHT this time and this would be a perfect way to expose the lies of the second film, ultimately bringing Batman to justice too

Maybe

Joker - Nolan wanted to bring him back, he might recast him, who knows?
Two-Face - Nolan did say Two-Face is dead for sure, but this was before Heath Ledger died, and the reason Two-Face is dead is because he wanted the Joker back
Bane - Could be a right hand man/body builder/assassin (animated series version kicked ass)
Harley Quin - With Ledger dead, we might get the next best thing
Talia - A nice way to make the title of "Ras Al Ghul" immortal, having constant heirs to the name and a possible love interest

Ya never know

Catwoman - A nice love interest and a villain. However, she is overused.

Damn, I'm slow. Of course he's dead! I completely forgot about the car scene.. Sorry.. sorry for that silly question.. *walks out, in shame*

I don't understand why people are interested in seeing Talia Al Ghul.

What would be interesting, besides a plot point to tie into the first film, about Ras' daughter coming to Gotham with League of Shadows in hand to get revenge on Bruce for offing her father?

We would just get a scene like this:

Talia: You killed my father!
Batman: Who?
Talia: My name is Talia...Al Ghul!!!!
Batman: Oh.
Talia: Now you shall pay with your life!
Batman: Great.

They fight. Batman wins. The End.

Plus, from what I've seen of the character, her love for her father and her love for Bruce are a crucial internal conflict for her, but with Ras dead and Liam Neeson certainly not going to return for Batman 3, this version of Talia would have no father to fed for or make a defining choice with...she would only be fighting to honor his memory and not actually have him physically there manipulating her feelings and emotions for Bruce.

I don't think Talia would be interesting at all really.

If you want a new female... go with Catwoman...

1. fans/non-fans know her
2. she's gimmicky, like Joker, Two-Face, etc. Talia is just... a woman. There's nothing that "sells" about her. A hot chick in a cat costume??? awesome! a killer clown??? awesome!!! a guy with half his face burnt off??? awesome!!! a woman who loves her father??? eh? what? um ok.
3. Other themes can be explored.. duality, Bruce falling in love with a fellow "freak", etc. Batman being faced with falling in love with a criminal, fellow vigilante, etc. With Talia all you get is another "revenge" plot.
4. SHE'S FREAKING CATWOMAN!!!!

Okay, so I said my piece.

Catwoman is waaaaaaay cooler than Talia and I would be MUCH MUCH more excited to see Nolan's vision of her than Talia Al Ghul.

So why is Talia so interesting? Anyone want to defend her and the choice to have her in Batman 3, because I don't get it.
