Im done man. Nope I'm done
:lmao:

She is someone with obvious mental health issues. It may have made sense if one of her parents was either Black or Mulatto, but both are white. And she is acting black?

She'll probably have an interview with this guy in the future:

sooooo to fight injustice everywhere! i must become something else! some one else... i shall become BLACK!!"
( hehe sorry i saw a comic reference in there and had to go with it!:cwink:)
this is why real life is stranger than fiction!

sheesh! is this chick SOOOOOOOOOO getting a Lifetime Movie!

"People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can't do that as a white woman. But as a black woman ... as a black woman, I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.

There's something to be said about deliberately misrepresenting yourself to earn people's favor, nab a job and so forth. She could've been an ally to the NAACP without claiming to be black. She could've gotten where she was without deceiving people.

Dolezal deserves the flack flung her way. She's no better than Stephen Glass in that regard.

Wow people are still going on about this? So the woman lied about being black and now she resigned from the NAACP. She feels how she feels and that's that. I am not condoning her actions of mocking people who are black etc but there are worst things out there. Saying the woman has a mental disorder and stuff is a bit harsh isn't it when there are weirder people who out in the world.

I'm concerned about cultural appropriation in this case. But idk, it's so bizarre.

She sued a school for racial discrimination a decade ago. You are damn right we are still talking about this.

But is Rachel Dolezal her real name? :o

It's in the past so I think people should let it go. What does it solve by bashing her and complaining about it? Everyone has lied or mislead someone at some point in our lives ( not to her degree, but you get the point).

So going on and on about this woman and knock her for how she feels and overlook others for doing the same thing is dumb to me.
Well for one, what she did was probably a crime. Two, she is the one who made herself a public figure. Three, everything is "in the past". Should we not talk about anything?

Apparently we're only supposed to talk about things he deems important.

I am just tired of people acting like she the worst person in the world like a mass murderer or something. She told some lies about her race and lied about other things in her life. Sure, it's messed up in a way and semi disrespectful to black folks, but from what I can tell the woman indentifies as being black and I can't really knock her personal feelings, whether I agree with it or not. And I do think it's hypocritical to those that claim this woman has a mental disorder for indentifying as black. But my personal, opinion is that this women should have been herself from the get go.

Can we keep straw men out of the discussion? It's not adding anything.

Who here has said that? Anything close to that? You don't want to talk about it, fine. But that doesn't mean anyone else has to follow your lead.

Thanks for reducing the opinion of everyone else here to an absurd absolute. I'm tired of you acting like we're all Hitlers or something... oops, now I'm doing it too.

I think you're understating what she did. It's not just the fact she had her hair permed and put on tanner to look biracial, but her web of lies. This chick claimed she was the target of racism and beatings by her so-called white stepfather. She tried claiming her adoptive brother as her biological son, which is infuriating. She claimed herself as 'African-American' on official documents, which will lead to some legal probing. And that's not even the tip of the iceberg.

This isn't some small lie she said to make others feel better. She deliberately misled and lied about her family history. She has family issues that need to be dealt with.

My gripe is around the media discourse around this whole issue. Race itself is a social construct. I can say that as what people would call a "Black Man" I'm not angry at her , and if anything, feel more sorry for her than anything else.

And frankly , I technically couldn't be considered what people would call "Black", because I have Cherokee , Scotch Irish, and Costa Rican,, , in my blood, so I can't claim to be pure anything based on the definitions and the discourse going on in the media around this whole thing. For talking heads in the media to reduce being one thing or something else based on life experiences and attitudes is itself stereo-typical .

That's what bothers me more, because it seems that in order for the debate around this woman to occur , people feel the need to come up with definitions and constructs to define what in itself is a social construct which has changed in US since its founding. For me, the whole media debate is pretty disheartening.
