There are a few members on this board, myself included, who are concerned James Wong was a poor choice to helm Dragonball in light of the flimsiness of Wong’s past directorial efforts. What other directors come to mind for people here as being better suited to translate Dragonball to the big screen? Someone who I always thought would be ideal is Quentin Tarantino: He’s got a great sense of craft, he has a distinctive style, he has an interest in anime, and he loves writing weird, drawn-out monologues just like the ones in the show!

Tarantino even used music by Shunsuke Kikuchi, the composer of the music for the original Japanese version of Dragonball, in his Kill Bill movies.

Wouldn't every adaptation be great if Quentin Tarantino helmed it?

Stephen Chow should have directed. James Wong will do.

i would have been happy with Stephen Chow, Wachowski Brothers, Robert Rodriguez, or Brad Bird. Tarantino would have been okay, but he would have written in too much jive talk. his movies have also been adult oriented while DB is more kid-friendly.

Yeah, and we all know how kid friendly james wong's films have been. :oldrazz:

another reason why i don't really care for James Wong as director.

This is Fox, I'm sure the producers had just as much control as Wong :P Whether that's good or bad is yet to be seen.

Thats one thing im actually happy about, I really want the fights to be as violent as possible, i think fox will try to tone it down, but james wong at least will make a hard pg 13 film, where i believe anyone else would have made a PG like F4. At least the dvd will have anything that fox decides to cut. I want to see actual blood. I didn't see one drop of blood with f4, but X2 had its fair amount which i want for this. Thats one thing i believe wong brought to the table.

James Wong and Glenn Morgan have never censored their writing before. If you watch Final Destination or The One you'll notice a lot of swearing and violence. It's odd that Glenn Morgan isn't involved in this movie since he's like James Wong's writing partner but meh.

Since we haven't seen James Wong's Dragonball yet, why don't we hold off on the speculation of "who would have been better?". It seems pointless and contrived considering nobody knows how good or bad Wong's vision for the franchise is going to be/turn out.

Robert Rodrigez, Zack Snyder, Stephen Chow, Guillermo Del Toro.

**** that, we've seen like 7 pictures, which is more then enough to speculate how bad this film will turn out, i mean all together would make up 1 second of the film which is only 96 minutes shorter then the whole film will be. the way Chatwins head is tilt to the left guarantees he will be horrible and that pic of yamcha shows that he will indeed be a transvestite in the film. Don't you see that?

Stephen Chow was my preferred choice, but I'm fine with Wong.

The Wachowskis already made a mess of Speed Racer, so why would you want to allow them to go on and ruin Dragonball too? The Matrix was valued primarily for the philosophical idea it used as its point of departure; most of what they do doesn’t come out too well. I don’t think that highly of Rodriguez either. Do you want Dragonball ending up like Spy Kids? I like Brad Bird, but does he really direct anything other than animation, and are his sensibilities capable of being adapted to a subject like Dragonball? Also, what do you mean when you say Tarantino is going to add lots of “Jive Talk”? Are you referring to people talking in Ebonics or something? I think it would be pretty easy for him to refrain from writing in Ebonics if that’s what you mean.

George Lucas :D lol

Seriously the producer Chow or Peter Jackson

Any other will have the same pro and cons than Wong, and every director is as good as his last film, ask Singer and The Wachoswki brothers

Stephen Chow would have been interesting. James Wong is also fine, though, because I think he deserves a chance to prove himself.

let's give wong a chance. i would have also been happy with stephen chow

Wong was a very interesting choice. I wish I knew why/how he was hired. Not saying I wouldn't hire him, just not someone I thought they'd pick.

what i wonder is if they had a few directors in mind or if they went right to wong
