How many would ahve guessed Transfromers would be the third highest groosing domestic 2007 summer film. Not with Pirates 3 being the movie it just surpassed.
Transformers now sits 23rd at the all time domestic list at 308 million dollars.
Surpassing Pirates 1 and 3.
I still think this has to be the sleeper hit of this year. Am i wrong about this.
How many saw this as the member of the 3OO mill club for this year let alone 3rd highest 2007 grooser so far.

Yes, you are wrong about it being a sleeper hit. A sleeper hit is something that wasn't expected to make money. Although I have yet to see it, I am pretty sure I won't like it considering it is typical Bay dreck. But I realized it was a big dumb summer movie and would probably make a lot of money.

SolidSnake, you should only judge after seeing a film.

I wouldn't call Transformers a sleeper hit, but it definitely surpassed expectations for it's gross.

Well in AWE's defense it still has the worldwide record for the moment.

Also, TF being released at the IMAX can put it as the #2 domestic movie of the year.

I am a bit surprised by how well TF did. I do think it's one of the most enjoyable movies of the Summer.

Hence why I noted I haven't seen it.:whatever: But from what I read, it has all of the typical "Bayisms" that make me hate his movies. And I don't have to see it to know its a big dumb summer movie. Am I wrong?

Yet, you still judged it?
And yes, you are wrong. I think that people should watch movies to have their own opinion on them. Just because a movie is released in the summer, it doesn't make it a "big dumb summer movie."

And why did you have to use the "roll eyes" smiley?
I wasn't being mean or anything to you. I was only suggesting.

300 is still the undisputed sleeper hit of 2007. No stars, no famous director, a source material only about 15% of the general movie going public was initially familiar with and then boom it makes over $200 million dollars. Transformers was expected to be one of the major grossers so this is not surprising but good for them even though it was one of the worst movies I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through in a theatre, right up there with Thinner & The Avengers.

Oh yeah, 300 probably is the sleeper hit of the year.

I'm not that surprised by TF's success. Shia was talking about it as though it was going to be a Jurassic Park of our time. And having seen the film I definitely agree with him.

It's just a film people can go to and be entertained for two hours, escape to a fantastic world and see amazing special effects that we have NEVER seen before.

So no, I'm not that surprised. A little, but not alot- I always saw big things for it.

Warhammer, to make this as simple and flameless as possible, I didn't judge the movie. I provided my outlook of the film. When I say big dumb summer movie, that's just what I mean by all of the popcorn movies that are made as tentpoles for the studios. They're movies where we can turn our brains off and take in the sights and sounds. Doesn't mean they're bad or good. Dogs are dumb, but we love them.:woot:

That makes sense, since summer movies are designed for you to escape the problems and hardships of day-to-day life.

They're not all necessarily 'big dumb' etc., but they aren't as "thinking-important" as dramatic films.

I don't think most Summer movies are meant to be epic and timeless, while they should entertain, they aren't exactly King Lear.

Yeah, they're not supposed to be.

Summer films are escape time, you just want to relax and not worry about anything.

Fall films to winter are academy award dramas, all fighting to be a possible champ. Some fail and others succeed.

Winter is family time, thus the fantasy films for the whole family.

After that is dump month for every film that fits no category and the films that aren't deemed as worthy. "We're not worthy, we're not worthy."

Or at least that's how I view the yearly cycle.

Award season already started with a bang with 'Resurrecting the Champ'

Not really. Sleeper hits are generally movies that gain more money from word of mouth. And 300 grossed $70 million on its opening weekend alone. I'd call it a rare pre-summer blockbuster.

The sleeper hit of the year is probably Knocked Up.

I feel that way about 300. What an awful music video trying desperately to be a movie.

But anyway yeah, transformers did what it was expected to do. I look forward to a superior sequel to the decent first start for the franchise.

Funny thing is I had 0 interest in watching 300 till some people recommended it to me that opening saturday. I'd say Superbad is on Knocked Up's heels.

I hope we get an action movie this time instead of a ****ty teen comedy. Starscream vs. the jets = what the crappy sitcom 80% of that movie should've been up to par to.

Um this is no Jurassic Park here sorry not that good.
