I think Rob Trujillo should get a mention. And I just noticed that Geezer Butler isn't on this list either.

Or Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads (she was on my poll). Anyone notice how women never get mentioned on these polls. Nancy Wilson wasn't on the list for Greatest Guitar Players, Nancy Wilson and Janis Joplin weren't on the one for Lead Singer (which was a poll that was flawed beyond belief), man, how sexist can you get.

Yeah. Another good female bassist is Melissa Auf der Maur.

I like her solo album. Then again, I'm a gigantic Pumpkinhead and she definitely took more from her time with them than from her time with Hole for the album. She needs to work on her live performance though...as far as her solo stuff goes.

former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist

Two bands I was never really into (I really can't stand Courtney Love). I really think that with the exception of Radiohead and early Weezer and Green Day, modern music began its decline with the death of Kurt Cobain, the last true visionary the music world has witnessed.

And while we're on the subject of Nirvana, where's Krist Novoselic on the poll?

I have come to make a full apoligy for this. I did a little bit of research, but apparently I didn't do enough. I listened to a lot of rock to see what bassists I would have put up on the list. From the looks of it, I didn't do enough. I'm really sorry for leaving out a lot of your favorites. And maybe someday we can do something like the Coming Soon.net tournaments. But yeah, I've gone back and listened to some of the people you all keep mentioning and I fully agree that I should have put Jaco on the list as well as the bassists for Metallica and Nirvana.

That being said, I still think this is better than the lead singer one who left off Jim Morrison and the guitarist one who left off Pete Townshend. But, I do apoligize for my errors.

Matt Freeman from Rancid and Operation Ivy is a pretty good bassist.

You did your best. You had a limited amount of choices (though you did have enough room for a few more ), and overall it was a pretty good poll.

You're right about it being better than the Lead Singer poll, which in addition to Morrison also left off Mick Jagger, Axl Rose and a slew of others. I actually am considering doing a revised Lead Singer poll with my own choices, but I know a lot of people will complain. (I also have a few other polls I've been thinking about).

Steve Tyler still wishes he was Jagger though, hey so does the guy from the Black Crows. Jagger pownz P10101010101 lol.

And Jagger is British. So him and his band can't really qualify for "best American band"...

Yeah, Krist should be on the list. Have you heard Eyes Adrift? It was Krist's short-lived band with Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets) and Bud Gaugh (Sublime). Good band. I saw them live. The Smashing Pumpkins are kind of an acquired taste I think. A lot of people can't get past Billy's voice. I think it's great, interesting and unconventional myself.

Yeah, it's his voice. There are very few rock stars IMO who have a tremedously impressive voice (Freddie Mercury is the only one that immediately comes to mind), but Billy's exceptionally bad.

I don't think I could agree with all of that more . I only like, like two Hole songs (Doll Parts, and Violet). Other than that Courtney Love can suck it for all I care, I really really hate that woman with an everlasting firey passion. I feel so bad for her daughter too having to live with that doped up ****e.

I remember in school one day, we were having a discussion on suicide, and someone mentioned Kurt Cobain, and someone else yelled out "Look who he married!". It was pretty mean spirited, but even so, I agree, she's disgusting. Ever see Molly Shannon impersonate her on Saturday Night Live? She does her perfectly.

Yes!

How the f**k can you have Flea on this poll and not Lemmy?

LemmyLive.jpg

All hail Lemmy Kilmister, lord and master of the bass :cmad:

The interesting thing is that my favorite Hole songs, Celebrity Skin and Malibu were both co-written by Billy Corgan.

^^^ That guy from Type O Negative. Actually, he's only decent, but I like it when he RIPS his strings off of his bass during a show.

I would call Lemmy a great singer/personality.
His voice is distinct like Dylan, Petty, Osbourne, Plant, Elvis, and the guy from ELECTRIC SIX.
