Why does Singer get to get away with the stuff he did like haveing two X-men movies and not being able to make Cyclops a strong leader we care about, not focusing enough on Jean and Scott as having a strong loving relationship that we care about,
Their relationship was supposed to be discrete. I know what you mean though, more scenes of them in private would have been nice. Cyclops didn't get to be a leader in X2 mainly because he drew the short straw and it was his turn to be kidnapped and beaten to submission. It happens to all the characters, even the strong leaders.
a useless whinny Rogue, no prior relationships between Rogue, Mystique, or Nightcrawler, having Wolverine be the center of both movies,
Well in his defense there was better balance between Wolverine and the rest of the team in X1. X2 was obviously a Wolverine story. X3 was SUPPOSED to be a story that focuses on Jean and Scott. What else could the Phoenix story be? How they managed to make it a story between Jean and Logan I can't imagine. Which is exactly why it didn't work out and looks so messed up in the first place. It's supposed to be Romeo and Juliet, not Romeo and Mercutio :P
a weak Storm and Jean, weak action scenes, and an unexplained reason as to why Jean got off the jet in X2.
We know the reasons, all the reasons why she got off the plane as well as the ultimate reason why she chose to die instead of letting anyone rescue her. I'd be happy to chat about it with you and anyone else who's interested. It could have been a wonderful subplot for X3, let the characters explore these reasons and then finally ultimately answer the question at the end. But obviously X3 chose to ignore it completely. And after Scott was removed from the plot and Jean apparently dead at the end of the film, it really didn't matter anymore, did it? Such a shame. What a waste.
And by the way Magneto's machine is not any better than the cure nor was it developed any better and the reason they had Jean kill Cyclops off was to show how out of control her powers were and that no one was safe.
And it was completely out of character. Jean's compassion and love for her friends and Scott are supposed to be stronger than her insanity or her powers. Of all the people she could have knocked around, Scott would have been the last person she'd do this to. The fact that she did it to him first, especially in an intimate moment like that is proof of how messed up this movie is.
That scene didn't show how Jean was so out of control. It showed how the writers were out of control
BTW, Jean's powers were not out of control. Not anymore so than the other chars. There are other characters who are dangerous too. Professor Xavier is the world's most powerful telepath. not due to bragging rights but as a fact. He can control anyone's mind on the planet, or using Cerebro he can kill them all. Yet you don't see him clutching his head screaming "NO!!! TOO MUCH POWER!!! CAN"T CONTROL IT!!!". Same deal with Storm. Storm's powers are linked directly to her emotions just like Jean's. When Storm gets pissed off = hurricane Katrina. Yet you don't see Storm clutching her head screaming "can't control it!!! TOO MUCH POWER!!! HELP ME!!!" either. If they can learn to be calm and control it, so can Jean. Otherwise you either have Leech sit next to her or give her a Cure injection, or a really big hug from Rogue. Rogue gives killer hugs you know
