Why all the hate over the flag shot?

:whatever:

So you cannot be proud of who you are or what you are?

Come...on.

Seriously. Come On!!! :o

Here ya go: one of the definitions of 'pride' from dictionary.com:

Pride, n. - Pleasure or satisfaction taken in an achievement, possession (as with a car that your father gives you - you may have done nothing to earn it, but still take pride in it), or association (as in whatever race or nationality you are - which NO ONE has any say over for themselves!).

So Brooklyn, take pride in being black and being American! You didn't do anything to warrant it - you were BLESSED with it!

But hey, to each his own.
Well, yeah. I don't really mind how other people interpret pride, but I wouldn't really feel comfortable taking pride in something I had nothing to do with. To me it's basically cheating, like someone should command respect by proxy rather than through any genuine channels of authority or achievement.

Ok, do you not have a favorite sports team? Let's say the English soccer team (I wouldn't know WHAT you like, I'm just taking a best guess, but hopefully you see my point). When they've won, have you not had a certain feeling like maybe your heart was growing a little bigger from happiness that they won and you were somehow associated with that because you were English and this was YOUR team? That feeling would be called 'pride'. And as I said before, if you've never felt it, that is truly a shame because it is a great feeling! Yes, there are different definitions of pride. One kind of pride DOES come from personal achievement, but doesn't negate the existence of ANOTHER kind of pride that has nothing to do with anything you did but is derived from a shared association some other person, thing, idea, etc.

I feel proud and happy for them, in much the same way I do when I watched my ex play in her band, which is why we say 'Oh, I'm so proud OF YOU', but I wouldn't take away any glory for myself. It's not like I say 'we' won when Liverpool of England win a match. I had nothing to do with it. It was the 11 dudes on the pitch.

I don't negate the existence of associated pride, I just don't subscribe to it.

I still don't get what the problem is with the flag shot . It's not like spidey did this .

Fair enough.

#1 - Plain cheesy

#2 - Ruined the entire pace of the scene

#3 - Wrong moment (Would've been so much better if used at the Parade)

^Being cheesy is your opinion, it didn't ruin the scene pacing and IMO it made it all the more memorable, and sure it probably would have been better at the parade and made a better photo op.

Oh, come on. Spidey could've easily swung to the construction site in one swing, but instead he lands on a building and decides to run a few steps. The damn construction site was straight ahead, there was no need whatsoever for him to land on a building first.

The flag was all CG, and it was sooo incredibly noticable! Which leads one to think that they we're truely going for that epic kind of image, and because of that it totally falls apart! Had the flag been somewhat smaller, and REAL instead of CG, it would've worked way better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that'd probably make reason #4, the obvious CGI.

What about in SM2 when Ock knocks him off the train...he could have made one swing as well but he decided to run up the building and jump off??? It makes the scene better...it would get old seeing Spider-Man just plain old swinging all the time.

It was just out of place and corny, IMO. If it had been less obvious or in a better scene, it would have been OK, but Spidey's entrance there was cheesey enough with the crowd and the reporter, so the flag was just overkill. I think I even said, "You gotta be kidding me" out loud.

That's my reaction exactly. I love that Raimi ended Spidey 1 with the American flag perch and leap. The flag moments in previous films felt right to me; this did not.

And that's exactly what the flag shot didn't do, make the scene better.

But you can't compare those two scenes anyway. In SM2 he was on the streets when he started to swing, he ran up the wall to gain more altitude and then plunged himself down on Doc Ock.

In SM3 he's already high up, and MJ is in terrible danger. So you might think he'd move his damn ass as fast as he can to the costruction site. But no, he's got to walk a few feet because he wants to take a break from the constant swinging.

That was almost as stupid as him looking at his costume for a minute, knowing MJ is in danger.

I don't mind it at all - it's been a staple of sorts for each Spidey movie, albeit in the final swing in SM1 and SM2.

Sure, it "worked" best in SM1 considering 9/11 was still fresh in the minds of Americans (especially us New Yorkers). But I like the idea that certain elements carry over from film to film in this franchise, such as:

-Peter's narrations in the openings/closings
-The webline/title screen before the opening credits

It keeps things even more connected as one ongoing story...

So now he's WALKING. Wow, give this thread another week and some of you guys will be claiming he was laying down for a nap.:whatever: I saw the movie again the other day and paid particular attention to the shot. He didn't pause to 'pose' when he landed. He didn't spend any more time in a crouch than one would expect for someone dropping down from a long arching swing. It was not stupid. Peter looking intently at his costume was INCREDIBLY stupid.

Have we really become so cynical and anarchic that we abhor our very own flag? I mean come on guys! It's our flag. It represents our country. It is the American people's symbol. It has no connections whatsoever to our crooked government who uses it as a tool, little respecting what that flag represents.

Most of the people on here who have issue with the flag shot don't live in our country.

^ I dont either... and I swear, this has nothing to do with hating americans, not at all... In fact, My favorite flag symbol IS the US one... The whole shot just doesn't work in that scene... Had they made it smaller and NOT CG (so lame!), it would've worked way better!

I have no problem with them using the flag in the first film, but the problem here is that it looked ridiculously fake and the timing was horrible.

It seemed forced this time around. Like basically if you're going to go save someone and be a hero, you gots to be doing it "da american way." I did like how they poked fun at the NYC'ers ganging up on Gobby in the first one in part two on the subway when they're like, "if you want him, you'll have to go through us", and Doc Ock is like, "ok."

The flag sequence in the end of spidey 1 was so awesome!!! THAT worked!;)

Loved the flag shot in SM 3. I took it as a slap in the face to Singer's wussiness over the "American issue".

Raimi embraced the flag and still broke B.O. records. What was Singer's excuse?
