Why all the hate over the flag shot?

This thread has gone completely off topic, even though that starting topic was an idiotic attempt to try and tear down the movie because TEH VENIM didn't live.

If it had been a shot of Chinese flag Michael Moore would of had a ****ed in his pants.

Ummm...what does the nature of democracy have to do with the flag shot in Spider-Man 3.

I think this thread is off topic and has become a politics thread. It needs a close.

To debate the nature of democracy and America, go to a politics thread.

Well, considering the thread is about the American flag it was bound to get political, but your right if people want to talk about politics go to a political thread. This thread shouldn't have even been made considering this is the most idiotic thing to focus on. The flag was in the shot for like 2 seconds and everyone gets all riled up just because it's the American Flag. The previous movies had it and therefore this should be a non issue.

My primary problem with it is that it looked fake. I don't mind the throw in, but it was just so fake looking it was a bit distracting.

Again, it is like 2 seconds and really minute, but still with 250 mil, couldn't they have done the shot better?

And this should get people to think about it. We had a giant flag in the final swing of the first movie, but no one complained. Because it wasn't distracting and it was one of the greatest scenes in the movie.

In SM3 the flag was just distracting and unnecessary. We know Peter got his act together and will save MJ no matter what. We don't need to get hit with a giant flag over the head to get the point. It's like with the news reporter someone else mentioned. We know that he gets the crap beat out of him, she doesn't have to tell us what we already see.

Dude, the scene is 2 seconds. Does it really matter? It's not like Raimi stayed with that shot for 5 minutes and flaunted the flag for that amount of time. I thought people would complain more about the news reporter, now that was out of place and unnecessary, and was given more time than it should have had.

People have complained about that, too.

True, but not as much as the 2 second flag shot.

To me the reporter and the kids and the audience at the final battle was the most annoying thing in the movie and should have been cut altogether.

Did anyone ***** about the flagshot at the end of the first movie? I'm not about to wade through 20 pages worth of crap to find out.

There was a tiny bit of *****ing but never post worthy

Spider-Man is to Marvel what Superman is to DC. Nobody had any problems with Superman and all his flag shots back in the 70's & 80's - if you ask me, the Superman Returns fans should be wondering why "The American Way" phrase wasn't touched on at all in Superman Returns... yeah, he's a savior for the whole world, but "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" has been his tagline since the beginning. It's always nice to see Spidey pick up the slack where Superman falls short... ;)

i guess hey realized the american way is not the one of truth and justice.

well apparently it is for some people. if i were in charge of the cuts for the trailers and tv spots and were to include the flag shot, you damn well better believe i'd leave the flag in there. it's just too bad sony didn't have the balls to leave the shot as is, instead of bowing down to other people's sensitivities.

maybe the whole movie could have consisted of watching a US flag wave on the screen for 2 hours

The news reporter was out of place. This is what we should be complaining about. Not a 2 second flag shot.

I don't know why everybody dislikes the Flag shot in Spidey3. It was a great shot and I personally loved it. It was a great moment because it shows that Spidey has returned to save the day. the end shot in Spidey1 with the flag was perfect as well. not to mention that it's only a few second shot. but thats just my opinion though.

And that's exactly it. We know he's back to save the day, we don't need a flag to tell us that. Or did they think that the audience as gotten so dumb over the years that they need a visual aid? Without the flag we'd probably thought he got to the construction site by mistake.

Also I don't like the vibe that scene emmits, as if Spidey's rushing into battle with the thoughts "I'll save you MJ. For the country!" He's trying to save the love of his life, don't tell me he's only doing that because it's the american way.

The flag was there to emphasize Spidey's heroic entrance. Not necessarily patriotic - Spider-Man doesn't have the tagline "Truth, Justice, and the American Way". It was there for a heroic effect. Would you rather have the commissioner of the city shine a Spidey-Signal into the sky and have him land in front of that?

How about Spiderman being heroic in his actions being more than enough so we can disregard unnecessary underlining?

^ How about you get it over it because it's only 2 seconds out of a 2 and a half hour movie?

The truth is, time now isn´t good for this sort of Americana thing. Here in Brazil our audiences always kinda cringe at that kinda stuff.

it's not idiotic since so many people were *****ing about the flag shot. i simply decided to ask why.

Sorry, Ultimatefan. I forget sometimes that there's people on these message boards from all over the world. I, myself, reside in the U.S. In a previous post I stated that I can understand why other countries may have a problem with it, but here in the U.S. it really shouldn't be an issue...

mannn that was a pathetic shot, the whole audience laughed ironicaly when the flag was in the background
