Why Are So Many People Fearing The Trilogy Curse??

Also, Secret Wars was just a cash cow -- don't they normally make toys based on stories and eras rather than the stories being based on a range of toys like what happened with Secret Wars? I think they do.

I don´t have this fear so far, the movie so far looks amazing to me, I´m not that bothered by the things that seem to bother some fans - not being a Venom fan, I don´t mind if he has less screen time than Sandman, for instance - and the most important, unlike what happened to Dick Donner or Bryan Singer, Raimi has been allowed to fully deliver his vision for this trilogy. It has all the potential to really feel as if the three movies are part of the same story.

There are more action sequences, I believe, but the emotional is actually STRONGER and the arcs are STRONGER than they ever have been before. Which I was surprised about, I mean you have this much stuff going on so it upped the ante in terms of action... but in terms of drama and emotion? It definitely did as well.

Most of the novel was the story, these emotions and character arcs while the action was just a bonus.

EVERY aspect of Spider-Man was readily improved upon, hell one of the things that impresses me the most is that MJ gets her own story arc that is very involving and intricate rather than just being "the girl" again. All in all, as I keep on saying- I readily think this will probably be the best Spider-Man film made if not best super hero film ever made. It just has so much to it: drama, action, symbology and metaphors, it's jam packed. This is truly the AMAZING Spider-Man.

I aren't at all worried about this third film. The first Spidey was quality, the second was IMO the best superhero film ever and this third looks to steal the crown.

Roll on May 4th :)

Does having a movie, a sequel, and then a prequel qualify as a trilogy?

That is really good to hear, i think the marketing of this film is making it look like more of an action film then it is, that nick t.c spot though was awesom:D

Yah but technically that would make the prequal the first entry, the original would be the sequal, and the sequal would be the threequal..hope that makes sence :D.

Tempest, I believe you to the FULL that all of this stuff in the novelization is really there, I do... and you're right, it DOES sound to be one of the greatest and strongest superhero tales of all time... But if there's one thing I've learned and is sadly pretty commen when reading books, is that it's not always it comes across quite as strong on film!.... however I truely hope it does in this case.

There really doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. If you liked Spider-Man 1 and 2, then I'm sure you'll like 3.

The trilogy "curse" is usually due to a change in director, or some other creative change. Schumacher took over, Ratner took over, Lester took over (completely), etc.

Sam has officially become the first director to be able to complete a full three-part vision of a comic movie series.

Because the secret wars was stupid, and unrealistic to the confines that Sam likes to make his movies. Yes there are stretches in his, but the Secret Wars when they first came out, even I thought they were just, stupid is the best way I can articulate them. The symbiote story is one of my favorites. Yet I never liked the original origin of it from ASM/Secret Wars. I thought they were just too far of a stretch.

And for the movies, to go from 1-2 then jump into outer space fighting an galatic war? Don't know if your joking or not, but Sam was the wisest to completely stay away from the Secret Wars story, it was horrible, and would of not fit in with the movies at all. I can't believe some are actually saying that. Hope you were joking.

and the real Dark Phoenix Saga wasn't? nuff said :o

You clearly just replied to my post without reading the context of it.

Marvel just wanted to bring something fresh to the series and basing a new story and crossover on a toy line was a way they could do it. Frankly Secret Wars was a great arc, they managed to bring all the lead marvel figures and produce a story which affected each character when they finally dispersed.

Aren't all these franchises cash cows? Isn't every toy or product based on these characters that you buy cash cows?

Secret Wars: series made to promote a toyline featuring concepts like the Beyonder that turned off people, with the only real draw-ins being the black costume Spider-Man received before the story even ended and the Thing staying behind. Alien introduction/ character crossovers used from the very getgo.

Dark Phoenix Saga: slow progression of a core character from benign to insane, with good employ of the X-Men's response and an air of Greek tragedy to the finale; it is still remembered as one of the best X-Men stories ever. Alien influences brought in once the threat logically became too wide for believeability.

No, I don't think the two compare at all.

Once again, completely read out of context, do your research on the point of the statement before replying with a comment that makes you appear both naive and uniformed.

I could specifically show you if needed?

anybody see this....thought it was pretty funny

completley true. the Secret War's was preety stupid and not to mention that most of marvel's heroe's would have to be in this film to fight in outer space......that would be stupid. and what woud happen to harry's storyline? what would happen with MJ, Aunt May, Venom, Sandman? the battle in space would take up the whole film. so yeah the Secret War's should never be in a spidey film and boy I am glad it wasn't in this one. we should thank TAS, the Comic's (not the secret war's part of the comic's), and Sam Raimi because if it weren't for them then there would have possibly been a Secret War which is yet another reason I'm glad Sam is directing.

EXACTLY! :woot:

I never understood why so many on here bring up films such as X-Men, Jurassic Parket, etc. because these all had the same change. Which will obviously lead to a change in the quality of the film itself.

Good point. Though I thought Jurassic Park was done after the 2nd film, I didn't think that one was any good.

JP II wasn't great, but I personally enjoyed it... it wasn't until later that I drew parallels between it and King Kong which actually gives me alot more respect for what the film was going for.

i'll just say that some people is worried because venom and sandman in the same movie sounds bad... and Gwen stacy after Mary Jane sounds bad and Soup-y.... and the dude that kill the uncle is sandman? that sounds worst

I think the plot is pretty much the same high quality that we'd expect after the first 2.

I think what has people worried is the promotion of this film makes it seem more action orriented to drive more ppl to the theater, when in reality its still a heartfelt emotional picture, in fact even more so then 2 probably.

not sure if this is related, but i didnt want to start another thread.

I was talking to this one person today, about sp3. We walked past this promo standee that had the symbiote suit on it, and the person was like "oh, thats neat. Spiderman got an upgrade, like batman. He must of made himself a new, sleeker suit." I was thinking "omfg what a tard". I then explained the entire symbiote thing, and then they looked at me like i was the tard. They said "how dumb, thats just the stupidest thing ive ever heard" or something like that. Anyone else encounter this?
