Why are so many women getting tattoos?

How do you feel about women with tattoos?

  • Look sexy/hot!

  • Some/most look nice

  • Don't care either way

  • Leaning towards "whateva"/not liking the fad

  • Think pretty disgusting/trashy

Read Leviticus.

There are plenty of other passages that are no longer practiced(especially Old Testament ones putting people to death for various minimal reasons) because they were ridiculously extreme too. So why is this one so much more important?

Comes up less than the gay part.

So, what's your point? A sin is a sin is a sin.

Tattoos fall under the same category as piercings, and I don't know many women who don't have their ears pierced, should we just stone them all to death? Just to be safe?

I'm assuming Thundercrack is playing devil's advocate here and is explaining the "moral decay" quote from Sentinel. There are so many reasons we are all going to burn in Hell if you believe everything from Leviticus.

Basically even being born at all means you're going to Hell in Leviticus. :o

About Leviticus, I've read that it pertains to a holiness code just for the priests of Israel rather than everyone at the time, but hey, then again I'm a rather- what's the word I'm looking for? Liberal?/Progressive Christian, I aint bothered by people having tattoos or being part of the LGBT banner. :o Plus, going by Leviticus, the handling of pigskin *cough* football is an issue.

If Two and a Half Men were around during Leviticus' time, I'm sure watching that'd be at the top of his hell-list. Or maybe...... that is hell.

Yeah, I don't think so.
Not all but you can't rule out that some people get them to fit in cause their friends have them or they see people in entertainment that has them. It might not be a trend in the traditonal sense, like a new hair style. But it's def had a surge over the years.

People (men and women) have been getting tattoos for hundreds of years. Tattoos aren't a new thing at all. It's not a trend. It's not a fad. It's here to stay. Tattoos aren't gigapets, they're not going anywhere.

Yeah, I don't think so.

They have grown in popularity but that doesn't mean that they will continue to be popular. Whose to say that people in middle school or high school now will be getting tattoos in 8 years at the same rate people get them now? And even with continual popularity there are different trends and backlashes against certain kinds of tattoos and different placements.

Redhawk beat me to it but I never said tats was something new. I said it has a surge over the years and that is true. More people are getting tatoos now then the people 10 years ago around the same age.

Well to be fair, for centuries (thousand years, really) it would have been scandalous for a woman to have tattoos.

So it's not surprising that some people find them distasteful.

And also to be fair, for centuries, women were viewed as property, traded as livestock. I find that far more distasteful. Unless it's a REALLY bad tattoo.

Did I miss something? Is someone forcing you to get tattoos? Even if someone does get a tattoo they regret later, there are ways of covering it up or changing it to something new.

And again, you can respect your body and your health however you want to. Don't assume people with tattoos are disrespecting their bodies or health just because you don't happen to like it.

No one is forcing me to get tattoos, but isn't anyone else disgusted by this trend where we've now reached point last year that more women have tats than men? One out of 4 American women has a tat. It use to be associated with sailors, ex-cons, gangbangers....but its now "mainstream and cool." Its definitely a trend that reflects glorification of fringe/rebellious behavior. We're definitely seeing more corporate diversity videos on protecting "tattoos employees and customers" :whatever:

I'm not saying the tats will cause a great societal problem..., but they are reflection and symptom of the decay of not respecting our bodies, health, clean living. This live for the moment, I'm going to violate my body to be a bumpersticker, despite the health costs...it impacts culture and how we raise our children. It's a trend, but I probably won't call it a fad as this culture seems to sinking worse every day.

I asked this on a professional website and am getting less skewed responses...I kind of expected this at the Hype...

Am I known for making trouble?

I don't think you cause "trouble" per se. But you have very outspoken, strong views and those views sometimes concern people who are different from you (like tatted women here for instance). Instead of trying to understand those differences or just ignoring them, you criticize or speak negatively about them. And that understandably offends some people.

Workplace tattoo policies vary among and within industries. But with many contemporary companies stressing commitments to diversity and inclusion, tattoos are becoming increasingly unproblematic across the board. Lax tattoo policies for blue-collar and art-related jobs aren’t shocking, but the increasingly tolerant outlook of frontrunners in corporate, educational and medical industries are more surprising.

Mayo Clinic Spokesman Bryan Anderson stated, “Mayo Clinic has long recognized the importance of presenting a professional image to our patients. Under our policy, employees are asked to cover tattoos or other body art.”

Workplace concealment policies vary, but having a tattoo in 2013 certainly doesn’t ruin one’s chance at having a successful career. Still, a 2011 study by CareerBuilder shows that 31% of surveyed employers ranked “having a visible tattoo” as the top personal attribute that would dissuade them from promoting an employee. So although companies across many fields are increasingly focused on diversity and inclusion, tattoo flaunting is still probably best reserved for post-work hours.

Yes we're all part of a hivemind with one monolithic opinion. "One of us.... One of us...."

But seriously, that's the classic "I'm not wrong. Everyone around me is wrong!" excuse.

I don't even know what to say to you other than wake up, it's 2013, not 1950. Or even 12 BC from what youre saying.

Dealing with the black plague was a reflection of how people fixed the health problems then. That was a legitimate concern. Tattoos, are not a health problem, or even a societal problem, unless you feel the need to tell people how to best live their own lives. Which you seem to want to do.

That kind of thinking has become obsolete, and dinosaurs are being replaced. It's evolution.
