I was reading over the comics based off of the series and they introduced Zod in a great way and I am just wondering why they never used him.

They used a character that was similar really similar to zod.... I forgot his name though...

Yea I know in the comic though they freed Zod and made him their leader then Zod turned on them and was about to kill them.

from WIKI: Zod was not featured in Superman: The Animated Series, although a similar Phantom Zone villain named Jax-Ur did, along with a new character called Mala, seemingly based on Faora/Ursa. In the accompanying Superman Adventures comic book, Zod was portrayed as an Argonian (like the animated Supergirl), who co-opted Jax-Ur and Mara as his lieutenants (essentially giving Jax-Ur the Non/Quex-Ul role). This character looks physically like the Terence Stamp version from Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

Jax-Ur appeared in Superman: The Animated Series, where he was voiced by Ron Perlman (who would later voice Slade on the Teen Titans animated series). Ironically, he was portrayed as closer to Zod; a military genius who had attempted to overthrow the Science Council. b

It would've been cool to have Zod in STAS and even JUSTICE LEAGUE/UNLIMITED maybe a guest role for stamp :p

Bruce Timm and the gang were told that Superman had to be the last son of krypton, if you remember they changed Supergirls origin also...the reason they could use the other character if because they always planned for them to get killed off.

Would have been cool to see. But I liked the Jax-Ur and Mala Characters. Im not gonna lie having a show down with the league and Zod would have been really cool. I think you could do alot with a Season Long Arc involving Zod.

Yeah, but I also figured that it was legal reasons, like the Bat-Embargo or the Aquaman-Embargo.

Yeah, I remember hearing on that on one of his commentaries. It was for the best. It's more dramatic if Superman is the truly the last son of Krypton. Have they changed it in the comics? If they haven't, I highly suggest that they do. Not that they would listen to me, though.

Oh, and about Zod, isn't he some fruity villain from the Christopher Reeve's movies? I'm glad we didn't see him.

Aye. The movie Zod was a real villain, a man's villain. He was the epitome of anti-fruity.

Unless you forgotten, there was the Phantom Zone. And those villians came from that into the show.

I don't think thats the reason why they didn't use Zod. At least it was original still.

Well, Jax-Ur in S:TAS is essentially Zod with a different name. Zod's personality and M.O.

Really? From what I remember about the movie, Zod was pretty fruity I guess I have to watch it again.

Zod from the Movie was freakin amazing!!!

Zod from the movie couldnt be any less fruity :p he was a man's kryptonian man :x

Yeah.
Zod was the best villain of the 4 Superman movies.

Maybe you watched a boot-leg copy?
He was a beast.

TV and film rules are tricky; perhaps General Zod never appeared on S:TAS because the characters were tied up with the film rights of SUPERMAN II? Even though DC "owns" certain characters, the rights to show them can still be effected if other companies have put them to print or screen beforehand. Hence all the issues with getting Capt. Marvel to appear on JLU, and why Blue Beetle was unable to appear.

As stated, Superman did face the "equalivent" to Zod in Jox-Ur and Mala, two Phantom Zone criminals (or "anarchists") from Krypton in 3 episodes of his own series. In their 3rd and final appearence, which was a good episode IMO, they were both seeming sucked into a black hole.

Their designs were a little "generic", but frankly I am disappointed that they haven't appeared in JUSTICE LEAGUE or JLU. As finding a worthy challenge for even 3-7 of the "core Leaguers" is very difficult, surely two people as powerful as Superman and as ambitious as Luthor could prove worthy foes; especially since Bizarro has turned into an absolute "jobber" with a glass jaw (and Luthor and Brainaic have become a bit overplayed). But, you never know; one can always hope for DTV's.

I understand all of that I was was just wondering why they used in in the S:TAS comics as like Jox-Ur and Mala leader (and they did it in such a good way) then not putting him on the show as well. But I guess its like asking why Supergirl can't be hurt by kryptonite in that series but on the show can.

"Superman Returns" is supposed to follow Superman 2, so maybe the powers that be are using Zod in that somehow.
