Why did you start to smoke...

I used to be one of those types that would go "you smoke....ewwww" and write it off to bad decision making. Then when my fallout with my love happend....I ended up looking for ways to forget. Heavy Drinking, Large amounts of Weed, X, Shrooms, Acid, and Cigs. Cigs and Weed were the only ones that remained. Now I just chief religiously.
Still a case of bad decision making.

I have noticed that almost all the girls here in Geneva and in Paris I see in their 20s are smokers. They all tend to tell me that they started because it was cool, whenever it is discussed (albeit not that often as there tend to be more interesting things to do then discusss smoking).

Yeah, lung cancer is the shizit.

I started when I was 15. Reason I started was because I'm an idiot.

I'm trying to quit, the reason being: bodybuilding and it's sooooo friggin' exspensive.

I noticed it says "Single MOther" under your name. Are you not ithat concerned about being around as your child/children get older?? Seeing as how smoking has been directly linked to cancer, which there is no cure for, why would you keep smoking, but to ensure that you get cancer??
i'm no more a single mother than you are some kinda monster.

1. if you smoke today or had smoked, what motivated you to start?

2. If you have stopped, what was the instigator?

3. For those who still smoke, hasn't it become so inconvenient as to take away whatever pleasure you derive from it?

1. I am so embarrassed! I started smoking when I was 14, because my best friend made a serious play for my boyfriend, they were both smokers, and I didn't like the way they kept going off into corners for a *** together. :csad: So I started. She still stole him off me anyway.

2. Haven't stopped yet, but will be attempting to quit this summer when they bring in the public smoking ban

3. Not yet, but I only really smoke when in Pubs, so yes, when the public smoking ban comes in, it will really steal my pleasure, so quitting is the only option

no, it's merely a custom title based on what i think a real life superhero is.

I see. So, what about the rest of my question? If you were a parent, you not be that concerned about being around as your child/children get older?? Seeing as how smoking has been directly linked to cancer, which there is no cure for, why would you keep smoking, but to ensure that you get cancer??

I grew up around smokers. My dad smoked for maybe 35 or so years b/f he had several heartattacks and a quapdruple bypass. Even THAT couldn't get him to kick the habit. It was only when his doctor told him he'd be dead b/f he was 50 if he didn't quit...(he was 46 at the time). And believe me, he was smoking a carton or two a week!

He's gone w/o smoking for 11 years now, and to this day he says its his proudest accomplishment. It was only after he quit that I realized how bad our house/clothes/etc has probably smelled.

My grandparents (both sets) smoke HEAVILY, and it's too much to bare anymore. I rarely go visit them b/c their house smells so bad and you just come home itching to jump in the shower.

That's not to say I'm offended by smokers. Many of my office mates smoke right outside my door. It's no big deal, but in the summertime they come in with a tainted smell on their clothing/hair that is pretty gross.

Myself, I have a cigar every once in a while. And not the little piss-ant varieties either. I take on the big ones. It's usually more of a ceremoneous occasion. My best friends and I will have a cigar on the balcony of my apartment. Or we used to go out to a duck pond near the park in college.

It started as a way to bond with the guys; relax and have some "man time". And it still is, my friend (cheaply) goes for the sissy black & milds with a sippy cup on the end, while I'm developing a real taste with expensive varieties from around the world.

But like I said before, I might go two months without one and all of a sudden have three in one weekend.

Cancer of the mouth is actually a lot more attractive than lung cancer.
