I'd say somebody about 220 is perfect for Cap.

Anything larger and you're working towards somebody who is focusing on strength at the expense of endurance and flexibility.

I think that the ideal Captain America build is something like Carl Weathers had in the Rocky movies. He's tall, lean and muscular.

Up until the nineties, he wasn't. Keep in mind that they always draw superheroes about 30lbs heavier then they are supposed to weigh.

Classic Captain America was about 6'0 190 to 205 and incredibly fit.

I always thought Cap was taller but I may be wrong. The weight and height is probably what they should look for.

Cap definately got huge in mass compared to his look prior to the nineties.

I'm telling ya, he should be a middleweight! Captain Britain is a heavyweight and he's clearly bigger than Captain America!

A Middle weight is somebody weighing no more then 160 lbs, which is too light.

You might be thinking of Cruiserweight, which allows up to 200 lbs.

I think light heavy weight is appropriate.

It think it's very appropriate. Not too light, not too heavy. The costume and shield will already draw a lot of attention. We've already seen a heavyweight in that Avengers commerical. It didn't do Cap any justice.

I think Brian and Steve are about the same size. Heck, I've seen Steve drawn bigger sometimes.

I based my interpretation on how Alan Davis has drawn them. Captain Britain looked heavier back in the Excalibur days.

I think as long as he has a reasonably good build, it'll be fine. Worse come to worse, he can work out for the movie (it's been done before) & as long as he looks good in the costume, fans won't say squat.

See, this thread could have turned incredibly gay, but it didn't. :o

I always thought of Cap as one of those who had like 0% body fat, since hell.......he's a supersoldier, he should at least look like an olympic athlete. Not like Arnold or anything, that's overdoing it

Exactly; physically impressive certainly but not with the huge mass of a body-builder. An Olympic athelete is bprobably about right.

Someone who has muscle but that muscle is flexible and is about function and movement more than form.

Probably the closest example in that respect would be the build of Gary Daniels (Kenshiro to anyone who's ever seen the live-action 'Fist of the Northstar'). I think I've posted some, if not all, of these pics on another thread before so apologies to anyone who's already seen them:-

Like I said, an impressive physique to suggest the Super Soldier Serum coursing through his veins but not massively muscled to the point of looking ridiculousness.

your all wrong cap was 6.2 240lbs same measure than arnold

I've been reading these forums for quite some time, and what bothers me is that everyone wants to cast some body builder as Captain America. You all want the guy with the square jaw, and the tough guy look. It really isn't necessary, though. We've seen Wolverine, Batman and Superman on screen. We've seen their comic book counterparts. None of the on-screen characters are anywhere near as bulky as their comic book affiliates. Why would you want Captain America to be any different?

A good Cap would be someone who can act well, give the film a serious tone, and express weakness and strength. Every human being has a flaw, and although you may state that "Captain America has no flaws", weaknesses in a person's state of mind can add so much more depth to any character. Other than this, all the actor needs is to be able to put on some muscle. We don't need Cap having an Arnold-type body.

And what's with the name "First Avenger: Captain America"? Why not just plain, old "Captain America"?
Cap should be big. He doesn't need to be bodybuilder big, but he needs to be bigger than the average man.

But I agree. I think 90% of the Cap casting ideas are moronic and based on looks and nothing else. The thing I wish people could realize is that actors who don't look the part can look the part. Bulking up or loosing weight, make up, wardrobe--all these things can transform an actor to look like a character. You could cast DJ Qualls as Cap, put him in the gym, dye his hair blond and he could look the part.

I'd be willing to bet if it were 1999 and I came in here and suggested Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, fanboys would tear into me because he doesn't look like Wolverine.

Sorry; I get what what you're saying but there's a limit to just how much muscle the human body get gain. I mean, D.J. QUALLS?

No matter how much gym time he put in, he literally would need the actual Super Soldier Serum in order to make the transformation required.

You'll never find a diamond in a turd.

I just picked a random example. I needed a guy who was not muscular and he came to mind.

Totally get what you're saying.

It's just if there's such a thing as an 'anti-muscle' gene - I'm pretty sure that D.J.Qualls has it. :D

anyone see him in My Name is Earl? He is scary thin. Like REAL scary.
