Why does Sam Raimi insist on killing villians?

people moaning about Venom dying.. is more just .. ."oh Sams killing off MY favourite villian... how could he do this to ME..."
Nope not the reason. I wouldn't mind so much if Venom got to be in a full movie and not just the last 10 mins. Also it's a little unfair Sam keeps his favourite alive and kills the rest.:whatever:

If Raimi keeps killing off villians there be no one left for Sinister Six. Think ahead you hack.

A little unfair to who? ... a small majority of the general audience who go and see this movie?
Im not saying Raimi doesnt give a ***** about the fans... But if he pandered every fans gripes... you would never get any spiderman movies... he has to make the decisions HE thinks are best... and it is his movie after all!

That's not the reason I am not happy with it. I just don't see the need to kill Brock. I mean I can justify why Brock dies but I still don't like it. He should have been locked up...but hey, it wasn't meant to be. Oh well!!!

see my above response!

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.... seriously.... Sinister six!
Hey if you want the spiderman to keep goin long enough for that to happen.. then you can deal with all the director changes, the cast changes all that shizz... and when its been well and truely schumacherd (sp?).... im sure you'll enjoy it!

hopefully by then you'll have forgotten how nasty sam killed off poor venom!

P.s Im not saying i agree or disagree about wether he should have been killed off or not... to be honest until i see how it effects the movie... i have no opinion!

So what if Raimi kills the villains? Its not a big deal for me. I grew up on the Batman films. They killed those villains as well. Joker died, Penguin died, Two-Face died, and Catwoman died 8 times. No biggie. And, remember the Ninja Turtles movie? They killed Shredder in the first one. Then, he returns for the second one!
righton... agree 100% with what u said

why in the world would they do a Sinister 6 movie? Look at what happened to "X3" and "Batman & Robin" ... You put too many characters on screen at once, and two things happen... 1) undeveloped characters and 2) a sloppy, rushed movie. Two things that Raimi has so far avoided... Besides... I think the Sinister Six, if it ever DID come to the big screen, would be a collection of loser villains that would never be able to headline a Spidey movie... Shocker, Rhino, Paste-Pot Pete, Electro, Mysterio, and Vulture. None of those characters could get me into a theater seat.

The only major story arcs that could be developed into a movie would either be the Clone Saga (a mess!), Maximum Carnage (another mess) or Peter unmasking himself to the whole city (which he has basically done already numerous times in the films... JJ is the only one who doesn't know his identity by now)

Horrible idea for how they could do Carnage in a future spider-man (which I hope they never do, but his popularity seems 2nd only to Venom):

In both the cartoon and comics, Eddie's rage made they symbiote a perfect breeding ground, hence it was able to spawn the Carnage parasite. Well, what if, just before the events of the Battle Royale, (in a flash back sequence) Venom is seen in Brock's apartment, plotting his revenge, and the costume spawns, which bonds with Brock's neighbor, Cletus Kassidy (whom is a serial killer the cops have been as of yet unable to find, "Son of Sam"-ish).

Then, all the fans would be happy because Venom would be back too, reconstituting itself (and Eddie Brock) like it did in Ultimate Spider-man. Venom and Spidey could team up to stop Carnage, and after Carnage is reduced to dust, Venom takes his show on the road to San Fransisco, and stars in a series of poorly-made, pop culture-heavy movies that spiral the character into a cheap joke of his former badass self (directed by Schumacher!)

PS:
all the above is said in sarcasm... I don't want Carnage on screen ever, and only want Venom back in 10 years when they re-boot the franchise with Haley Joel Osment as Brock. ;)

Better yet, for Spider-Man 4, I think they should do the fat little kid that makes his own Spider Suit. Can't remember the kid's name, but he makes the suit to prove to a neighbor girl that he could be Spidey's sidekick.

Could make it a Spider-man version of the Incredibles.

I can't wait until they kill Venom. I'm going to have a big ass grin on my face. Hopefully, they do it the comics, as well. They've already had every color in the rainbow as a symbiote villain, it's time to say goodbye.

:wow: :wow: :wow: I...I... DONT BELEAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, these are the movies. This isn't the comic books where a villain can just repeatedly return in various different arcs. Norman died, Harry will finish the legacy in SM-3. Ock died, I don't see him returning, no matter what any of you say (And no, I doubt there will be a Sinister Six). And onto SM-3, Harry and Eddie die, Sandman lives. That's three villains, i'm not sure if Raimi would kill off all three, and what happens to Sandman when he's taken away, do they cure him? Getting rid of his sand powers? I just figure Raimi does it so there aren't any loose ends. I see this happening in possible future sequels.

Most importantly, Spider-Man movies work by introducing NEW villain(s). Even if Doc Ock returns they'll be a new villain in the film.

I agree, Vis.

You also bring up a good point about Doc Ock there.

is there confirmation that Venom does indeed die in the movie???

i know Brock becomes a smoking skeleton in the novelization but is that true in the movie???? and where is the evidence or proof of it???

What about a Spider-Man movie with...The Terrifying Trio! It consists of Doctor Octopus, Electro, and Vulture.

I wholeheartedly say: Terrifying Trio 4 Spidey 4! :spidey:

Killing villains is Mr. Raimi's way of advocating the death penalty.

I wouldn't be too thrilled to see Vulture in a movie, but a team-up with Doc Ock and Electro would be pretty spiffy though.

Brock's death is needed though, of what the novel says, and that the movie also shows the symbiote as a real venom -- a poison --, and so when it covers Eddie, then at the end [BLACKOUT]it just eats Eddie Brock away leaving just a skeleton behind[/BLACKOUT] to show that the symbiote was really a poison, and it would have killed Peter the same way if Pete kept it on any longer...also why it shows Peter a reflection of pre-Venom to show the monster brewing inside of him already...so the death of Eddie is needed for this movie...just as the death of Green Goblin, Doc Ock (even though he might be 'alive', but right now, he's 'dead'), New Goblin and also Venom...those deaths shows the main themes of the movies.

Ya know its funny. Venom is one of my favorite marvel characters so i guess im biased. But first and foremost there is a big difference between Venom and every other spiderman villian. Venom is bankable. What that means is Venom can appear in a spin off movie, a solo movie. Goblins dont work well without spidey, niether does doc ock. Do i think a Venom movie spinoff is a good idea? no, not at all. I dont think an R rated Venom vs Carnage would be cool nor would Venom vs some random baddie. But the bottom line is people who do not breathe for the comics as most of us here seem to, know who Venom is. They like Venom, are they familar with his history, motives, yadda yadda, maybe not past what they saw in the 90s cartoon. But theyd still pay to see him. I know way too many people who are hyped to see spiderman 3 because they want to see Venom. Sorry to Sam Raimi, but no one, no one, gives a s**t about the Sandman. No one. I'm sure some of us here might, thats fine. But your average movie goer isnt thinking "Hmm the Sandman, i gotta see him".

Bottom Line:
Venom = Bankable
Every other Villian= not so much

Again not saying a solo Venom movie would be good at all, just saying.

OH and as for "well the skelton scene would rule"

you mean to tell me if you saw Brock inside Ravencroft walking down a hall and in one cell we see Doc ock sitting in the center with his arms stretched out individually locked in the room you wouldnt not freak? With an easy explination by someone saying he washed up on shore? Then being lead to his cell with Kassidy. Fans would eat that up.

I get the posion taking a person over stuff, its cool, works for the film, but its not the only way to go, just in Sam's mind it might be.

What I ment by unfair was he structured the story so his faviorte villian Sandman gets to be the only villian that lives. If Venom is only in 10 mins of the movie and thats it forever you can be sure it won't be just a small majority that's pissed. All I would like to see is Venom not just be a side note at the end of a movie. If that's the case then they shouldn't have put Venom in 3 at all. They should have just introduced Eddie.

The novels never lie about the important stuff like that. Peter David's SM-2 novel didn't. No reason why his SM-3 one should either.

i agree Venom is bankable but not for a solo movie (besides what would they call it since there is a movie already called Venom). he is bankable enough though to put him in the next movie if they should make Spiderman 4.
