The comics and cartoons never had to seriously address actual laws. 'Good will' and their powers were enough to let them get by for decades.

That's the way it was before, but did you read 52? International superheroing laws are now seriously enforced in the DCU. American heroes are not allowed in China's airspace, amongst other places, and other countries now have their own teams and allegiances that more or less mirror the real world's. Even Green Lanterns, who supposedly have cosmic jurisdiction over an entire space sector, get shot down if they violate a country's border laws. It's no longer acceptable to just title yourself the "protector of the world" and leave it at that; every single meta has to go through the proper channels.

What I find to be a joke is the concept of the JLA dropping America from their title when America is known to be the foremost freedomizing nation on earth. Not only that, but the comic heroes and most of the characters and franchises you unpatriotic gooseballs adore are American made and probably what attracts you to them is their bold, American ideals. People love the sharp comixc wit of the Animaniacs even today, while the UK's best answer to that was, I guess, Count Duckula the vampire duck? Nobody cares. For that reason alone it is stupid to suggest the JLA should drop the most significant word from their title. Theres a reason why the word America is so compelling. Its because the States hold the entire responsibility of entertaining the rest of you canfaces. RoboCop, the Terminator, the Predator, rocket pops, thats us, and the only thing good the rest of the world has ever given is the Bristish version of the Office which was really only twelve episodes and a special.

Yeah, I read parts of it. But I meant they got away with good will and their powers before for decades. The comics never had to address serious law issues, including international ones. If there was a crisis only they could handle, who would argue their involvement? And they usually created these fake countires, like Qarac, to reflect their own views of such regions. But now things aren't so naive anymore. Sometimes I think it would be better if DC comics went back to being more simple.

I'd be less interested in explicit government agents than a foreign superhero community with actual contrasting motivations and moral dimensions. Like I don't know, an Iranian Superman who condemns his country's worst abuses but still to one degree or another believes in a fundamentalist view of Islam, or a Saudi Arabian Christian Wonder Woman who fights for secularism and women's rights. And then like an Iraqi Batman and a Pakistani Green Arrow or whatevs. Basically an actual foreign "JLA", not particularly beholden or even necessarily friendly towards the government of any one nation or region, but which sees itself as the defenders and champions of those nations' peoples, and is by no means well-disposed towards foreigner interference be it from government agents or just well-intentioned "American" superhero teams.

Well there's already a comic book of world, Muslim superheroes. It's called '99' from Teshkeel comics. It's comprised of Muslim superheroes from all over the world, including America.
