Do you honestly beleive that any of the world powers, including the United States, will take responsibility for their own mistakes?

Not gonna happen.

They can't blame the U.S.A for everything that's gone wrong since the 20th century. At some point the other countries have judged their own part in their histories.

Come on now. That can only go so far before the rest of the world has to take responsibility for its own mistakes.
Not when we're making most of them. Outside the Third Reich, no one can lay a claim to ruining as wide a swath of the world, on many different levels, as the US. Not even Soviet Russia or Communist China.

Pulling "Facts" from the brown journal again are we?

How did I get into a Community thread? I thought I was in the DC Comics forum.

We're still talking about the modern era, from the 20th century, right? Anything before that we can blame on lots of countries, especially colonial powers.

I'm not going to respond to this. No offense, but we should really get back on topic. This isn't the Community forum, this is the DC Comics forum. We're not here to talk about the United States and international politics. We're here to talk about comic books, the Justice League in particular.

Good idea, considering that post was pretty much troll bait anyway.

They should simply be called the Justice League, after all, their role is to protect the whole world.

The point of "of America" is tradition and respect. The Justice League of America is basically the successor to the Justice Society of America.

Also out of the core members: Batman, Superman, the Flash, and Green Lantern, Black Canary, and Green Arrow are American citizens. The Martian Manhunter has posed as an American citizen. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern work for the American government.

Hell, the only one who isn't really tied to the United States is Aquaman.

J'onn has a citizenship in pretty much every country.

They may protect it but they don't represent the whole world. Nor do most of them reside outside of America. If they didn't have their satellite bases they'd most likely meet on American soil. They won't in Canada or Switzerland, nor South Africa or Australia. Finally, most of their villains operate within American borders.

Is the Martian Manhunter legally a citizen of different countries, or are those the secret identities he used? If he was a recognized citizen of the U.S.A. then he wouldn't have to hide his fellow Martians from the U.S. government, would he?

Well boys, clearly they didnt teach much truth in whatever school had the misfotune of raising up you punks, but if you had been paying attention inbetween smoking weed and listening to RANCID you would have learned that the United States of America watches over the world and has kept it from chaos nearly everyday. That means that if the U.S.A. were to go on vacation for just one day, say to a tropical island to relax or even just in-town at a spa, you idiots wouldnt be able to keep it together and you'd soon all be in caves making out with your sisters again, and as sweet as that sounds believe me its nothing compared to the sweet freedom you're allowed by our American ideals and our American guns which work together to teach you and liberate you and also dont forget that our flag has more stars than anyone elses. Theres fifty. Count 'em.

Haha, so says BigPatriot, the newb with a 16 post count...

ok...

you trying to channel Ultimate Captain America? Cuz you're actually doing a good job...

Huh, you're really doing a great job in Iraq, Israel and numerous other countries that have been ****ed up beyond measure, because America thought it was a good idea to step in at one time or another.

I really don't care what they call themselves. If they want to call themselves the JL of America, then that makes sense because most of their members are American superheroes and operate mostly in regards to American laws. If they don't want to call themselves that, then that's fine as well.

After the events of 52, actually, the laws of the DCU may make it so that they have to call themselves the Justice League of America. The countries of the world have set up their own protectors and their own boundaries. It's no longer feasible to just go around saying that you have no allegiance; no one's going to take your seriously. But if you're "affiliated" with a country, if only in name, then at least there can be negotiations and alliances made with other countries and other countries' superheroes, and they will know who to blame and to hold reprehensible for your actions if you do get out of line.

This has to be a joke post. It just has to be. Thank you for the funny.

The comics and cartoons never had to seriously address actual laws. 'Good will' and their powers were enough to let them get by for decades.

The comics seriously addressed actual McCarthyist laws when the JSA retired under pressure from the HUAC to reveal their identities or be arrested.

can they even be called earth heroes as a lot of them are from other worldly places.....are they really a League?????

and are we really gonna start removing the american titles from properties because it's unpopular right now?????
Is Captain America only going to be called the Captain until a democrat gets elected?????
Every country has it's bad points. I love Australia but the way they treat their natives is appalling(yes I have been to Australia)

Personally I don't find it appealing at all to make out with my sister. "as sweet as that sounds"...Bwahahahahaha...what a clown. :whatever:

Hey, both of you, keep on god damn topic. This is not about freaking politics.

Yes, this really isn't the best place to be blaming the US for the worlds woes.

Back on topic. When the League was created back in 1960, comics were pretty much an American phenomenon and did not have a huge readership beyond the US. So they had no reason to make the name more international. The League was a reinvention of the JSA and if I recall correctly the writers felt that League had a more updated feel because of The National Football League. There have been attempts to rename the League... in the 90s the team was relaunched as Justice League International, and later a Justice League Europe (with very few actual European members). Personally I wouldn't have any problem with the comic being renamed to Justice League, but it's hard to fight 47 years of tradition.

Alright, you could say that they are the Justice League of America because almost all of their members are U.S. citizens.
But then what about the Teen Titans of America, or the Avengers of America?

Now, don't get me wrong here...
I know everyone of these characters was created in the US and most of their stories take place in America.
And I have nothing against them being called the Justice League of America, all I'm saying is that their operational area (as a league) isn't necessarily bound by national borders. They wouldn't refuse to help another country against... I don't know, let's say an alien invasion.

It'd be nice if other countries decided to start up some Justice Leagues of their own. Imagine a bunch of Russian heroes banding together to form the Justice League of Russia. I wonder how the JLA would react.

One. Single. Post.

No need to overreact bro.

As for other countries creating their own Justice Leagues. Meh, I want to see more international teams, but I'd cringe if they made it Justice League _____. It also wouldn't really fly from a political standpoint.
