Why HULK? WHYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

This recognition is a false one because the average person knows diddly squat about the comic book character hulk.

And they know even less about Wolverine.

The Hulk has GENERATIONS of fans. Wolverine only STARTED to get worldwide popularity during the past few years.

You can't even use the 90's cartoon as an arguement, because the character portrayed there, and the one on film, are about 98% different visually, where as "the big green monster" has been about 98% dominant in ALL media.

bats, supes, spidey, wolverine (apart from real name), you can get alot out of them about it.

hulk. apart from strong and green and madder/stronger, no one really gives a hoot.

he's like that kid in school everyone knows but no one invites out on a saturday night.

Yeah but everyone runs outside to the school yard to see the bully who is angrier and sronger and the nerd who is weaker in conflict even if you feel sorry for the nerd.Except Hulk is the Bully and Bruce is the nerd as well as Bruce is the bully and Hulk is the nerd.
That's the story right there.
Seperate know one invites either on out on a Saturday night Bully or Nerd. But together it's a hoot.

You can't have Abbott without Costello or Costello without Abbott.

Even though it's relly Costello who is funny but you still need Abbott for him to play of off. That's the only way he is interesting.Same thing with the HULK.They need to play of off each other to be interesting.

Then will people give a hoot.

I do.

i think there is a difference between recognising and understanding back history.

while more people may recognise the hulk as a whole based on more exposure, i believe a much smaller percentage of them actually know anything about the character, let alone give two craps about his turmoil, comic fans included.

He's a complex dude, no matter how simply people want to dress him up at times, he's very very complex, perhaps the most complex.

Wolverine gets higher priority on google than his animal counterpart, no other x-men character can vouch for that. I would not underestimate his pop culture popularity and his ability to tap into the 'loner' market to get people to relate to him. He's been riding the wave for nearly 15 years

the majority of the non-comic hulk appearances have lacked his character's core essence. Wolverine's however have kept his loner antics (although one may say his core attribute is a man trying to escape his past but can't).

the majority of people probably think banner and the hulk are the same entity and not a split personality.

i might have to start going soon but i just wanted to point out that my main point is that hulk may be an icon in name only and when it comes down to the mustard, most people really don't care much about the character or his mal treatment or anything and the studios don't know what to do with him.

at least he hasn't struck out three times with punisher. man marvel must really hate him...

C'mon dude.Complex=Wolverine.He has so many backstories and mental and emotional drama I can't keep up and then what they tell us might be false memories.World war 1 and two,Indians.Samuris,Mercenaries.

Hulk was made complex to sell comics but it's really just Dr.Jekell Mr.Hyde.

Wolverine was made complex to sell comics as well.

He is just a rebel and a loner.

alright, wolverine's complexities are more apparent than hulks in general.

i know they are not the greatest examples to compare to one another but wolverine's complexities all fit into one big box of 'his past' so it's just additional stuff he is trying to escape from (as you said to sell comics).

When I was a little kid, and not a superhero fan, I knew who Wolverine was. I didn't watch the X-Men cartoon either.

This "people dont know the true Hulk" crap is nonsense.

First of all...Wolverine supporters have no leg to stand on as that characters history is so muddy you cant even recognize his story in the comics, let alone in other mediums!

But that aside...

The general public never have an accurate view of comic characters...which is why they are the general public. Superman doesnt have a kid, Wolverine did not join the X-Men before Angel, and Judge Dread doesnt suck. They dont read the comics, and never will (if they do, they become one of us, not the General public) so their view of comics will be slanted towards popular tv series or movies.

As many have said...people dont even need a picture to identify Hulk. You could say "whos that big green guy with the purple pants?" and people would know. If you asked them "whos the canadian with claws who sometimes wears a yellow outfit but sometimes brown?" theyd have no clue. If you rephrased it as "who did Hugh Jackman play?" Theyd say "That wolverine guy from X Men", but even that is limited to people who are of the right age group. From 6 to 96...everyone knows about Hulk.

It is Marvels duty to protect their characters and give people reasons to care about them. Hulk is not a bad character (though he is often one dimensional) but they really need to do something with the guy to make people care about his shenanigans. Personally, I think the way is to AMP UP the destruction to a level thats never been seen before in cinema.

I guess Leterrier doesn't like Superman too much. He thinks the Hulk has no weight with those high jumps. Wtf does that make Superman then? He's made of steel and can literally fly. And not just like a temporarily jump. Fly.
