Why is Disney not putting their classic characters to good use?

I was thinking this actually the other day. Mickey and the others have been away from the big screen for what feels like forever.
And yeah that Clubhouse show is great for kids, but I was also wondering don't they have another cartoon for slightly older viewers.

They're not Disney but I was also wondering the same thing about The Flintstones and The Jetsons.
2 classics like Scooby Doo and Looney Tunes are being brought back in big ways I'm surprised Mickey, Flintstones, and Jetsons aren't as well

If it's not about cars or trains, my nephew just isn't interested. I suppose he might be interested if Mickey, Donald, and Goofy were competing against each other in a cross country car race (kinda like an animated Disney version of Cannonball Run). I've tried to get him interested in the classic Disney characters. Last Christmas I bought him a copy of Mickey's Christmas Carol (I had been trying to buy a copy of that movie for one of my nieces or nephews for years). The year before that I bought him a copy of Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. He's still only interested in Thomas and Lightning McQueen. Oh, and Polar Express.

I think Disney is actually testing the waters for a Mickey Mouse revival with Epic Mickey.

Yeah, that's right. OG Mickey from the 30's.

^ Wow, as an animator and long time classic cartoon fan, that looks awesome :wow:

I'm definitely picking it up.

That game is perfectly named. Impressive!

Disney needs to do something cool with Donald too. He's by far my favorite Disney character.

My daughter just turned 2, and her mother and I are huge Disneyphiles. She was (purposefully) conceived on one of our quarterly trips to Disneyland. She first rode Pirates of the Carribean and the Haunted Mansion when she was 13 months old. It was that trip that she first "met" Minnie and Mickey. The excitement and recognition in her eyes was magical. We have exposed her to the classic Disney shorts, seeing as I have over 100 of them on my hard drive. She loves them...all of them, though Pluto and Donald are her clear favorites. Go to a Disney park and you will see that Disney hasn't given up on the core characters, it's just that the feature animation department needs a good kick up it's arse. They are too busy trying to brand, market and create synergy for the princesses to put some attention towards the fab five.

I'm a hardcore Donald and Goofy fan. Those are the dudes they need to bring back. I have the shorts on DVD and sometimes watch them online when at work. Disney would do well to develop some new cartoons with Donald.

Agreed with all of the Donald love. He was my favorite cartoon as a kid. :D

Donald's finest hour in recent years was the Mickey's Philharmagic movie at Disney World. It's an awesome 3D movie (like, great 3D) where Donald takes Mickey's sorcerer hat, and then loses it, and goes chasing the hat through a bunch of classic Disney cartoons.

It's awesome.

During the Beauty & the Beast scene, you can smell the pie that flies out in 3D and the air when the bottle corks pop, and during the Fantasia scene the audience gets sprayed with water. And during the Aladdin scene you can feel the wind blowing from the flying. It's really cool!

^ That's awesome!

I've said it before, but I want to see an adaptation of Don Rosa's "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck". That's probably not something that should be made into a movie though (maybe several movies could work), but rather a TV-series.

The story originally had 12 chapters (Don Rosa a few extra chapters afterwards) and chronicles the life of Scrooge McDuck from being a young boy to being the richest duck in the world.
It's funny, smart, and just well written.
