I watched it for the first time in a while the other night, and its just a brilliantly intimate little movie that seldom gets the praise it deserves. Not only is it unbelievably faithful, but its just an excellent movie, one that makes us identify with these self-proclaimed 'freaks' more than the majority of human characters we see in most other movies.

It has action scene's that are straight out of the comic (I never realised how accurate they were to the comics until i read a few of them), and even better character scene's that we cant tear our eyes away from, why this movie is never mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Iron Man, Spiderman and X-Men when it comes to origin movies is beyond me.

I'm watching it for the first time today and I absolutely love the move so far. I guess some people just don't know a good movie when they see one nowadays. They'd rather watch trash like Bayformers.

Aside from the fact that Ron Perlman IS Hellboy, Del Toro is amazing at what he does.

Dont get me wrong i liked Transformers, characters i am also a big fan of, but it just doesnt have the heart or emotion of Hellboy, and lets face it, Bay is no GDT.

GDT is just getting better and better as time goes by and i cant wait for HBII, i really cant, then we get The Hobbit, then hopefully HBIII after, he is simply an awesome director.

Word. :o

I watched it for the first time yesterday and I liked it a lot. Interesting characters and great visuals. And Hellboy 2 looks so much better!! I can't wait for next weekend! According to Empire magazine, the film is brilliant and a must see!

Yeah, I understand what you are saying, AVEITH, this movie is good and deseves better.

I just finished watching this for the first time. I have to say I wasn't expecting much...looked cheesy, I heard it was lame, and the reviews weren't too great. But overall, I was really impressed! I'm really looking forward to The Golden Army now!

When I saw the first movie in theaters I thought it was pretty good, but as the years passed I came to understand its true meaning more. And now every time I see it I love the essence of the film.

I just saw it a couple of nights ago after having avoided it at the theater, and enduring countless "Oh come on, go see it!" shoves. I figured I'd see it now since there was a second one coming out, and lately all of the comic movies coming out have been simply stunning, so what the heck, give it a chance...

...it was better than I thought it would be, and I am sorry I didn't see it in theaters the first time around. Though I thought the visuals could have been better, and really, that's why it didn't appeal to me at first - I thought it looked cheap. The story was good and I ended up really enjoying the character relationships and portrayals. It was deeper than I thought it was going to be. Over all very enjoyable. Not my favorite, not my least favorite of the comic movies.

i saw it in theaters and liked it..

I only just bought the 3-disc Director's Cut version from Wal-Mart for $9.00-- it's likely worth it for anybody who hasn't already got it on dvd yet..

Cool, hope you are enjoying the comics and hope you enjoy the 2nd one as well MP, i just hope we get the 3rd movie GDT wants to make, but, IMO its struggling at the BO.

Thats is exactly my experience with the movie, watched it at the cinema, liked it, but it was on repeat viewings that i really started to appreciate the movie and the story it was trying to tell. BUT, since reading HB comics, i enjoy the movie now more than ever, one of THE best CB movies IMO.

yeah it is under rated and i dont know why , i thought all the hell boy movies were awsome , i guess just people are weird these days ha =)

When I saw the first Hellboy in theaters for the first time, I thought it was just decent, nothing special.

But eventually I started to love it, then along came the second movie.. and personally, it's the second best movie of the summer. It was damn awesome.

Now lately I've started to read some of the comics. The characters are so immediately likeable, especially in the movies... right away you feel comfortable with them.

second movie was amazing and could have been perfect minus the ridiculous singing to Barry Manillow, was that necessary? That was like jar jar for me, just cringed and felt uncomfortable:(

Sort of the same thing with me with the first movie, grew to actually love it over repeat viewings on DVD. The comics are awesome though, i hope we get to see Roger in the movies someday, he is my 2nd favourite character behind HB.

Well, Roger WAS in the bakcground in the first one, haha...

Yeah I agree, its definately underrated. I especially like the beginning, where they find him, and the title sequence with the blurry pictures of HB.

^I just love most of the movie, sure it is flawed, in a big way at some points, but its heart is in the right place and it cant help but entertain, just cant wait to see the 2nd one now (and hopefully 3rd sometime down the line), have had to wait so long.

I love the first Hellboy movie. I've seen it more than a dozen times now. I think some people just can't get past the title when considering it. To me, it is one of the best comic book related movies out there, and since I have never read a Hellboy comic, I don't believe that I can be accused of having a biased opinion about it.

I love the 1st Movie, its brilliant. I dont understand why people dislike it that much.

I dont actually think people do dislike it, just under-rate it, I was actually surprised to see people talking about it in work recently in regard to the 2nd one coming out. I will say this though, HB2 is better.

I don't know why either.Probably my favourite comic book adaption so far.

^I dont know about favourite, but both movies are now firmly in my top ten and if we reach a trilogy it would be something special. But the first movie is definately up there with the likes of X-Men, Spiderman, Blade, and Iron Man IMO, and HB2 is right up there with the best.

Dark Knight would be my favourite but I happen to like Hellboy a lot more than the caped crusader.Top Three comic films for me are..

Hellboy
Hellboy 2
The Dark Knight

I am sure Watchmem will tie with Hellboy though

HB2 was the second best of the summer for me and definitely in my top 3.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Hellboy 2
3. Hellboy

Poor little Iron Man is probably in 4th place for me.
