Why is this movie so RIDICULOUSLY under-rated?

^Gotta be honest if TDK hadnt come out this year then HB2 would be top of my list, I thought it was fantastic, but TDK was just something else. Any other year HBII would have been the top movie AND made more at the BO.

I hear that they are RE-releasing TDK in January again so it can be nominated for the Oscars.

I've gotta see TDK a total of 12 times to beat my record.. that'll help.

^But you still love HB, right?

Of course, in terms of the characters, I'm a much bigger Hellboy fan than Batman fan, and, as you can see in my sig, HB II is still 2nd, and both movies are in my top 10 for CB movies. TDK was just something special though.

^Nothing would make me not love HB, the 2 movies are great, and the comics are even better! Whats not to love!

A lot of people for some reason really hate these movies. I'm not sure why though. And yes is correct to say 'by whom'

I was thinking about this the other day. I'm betting the reason it's not widely popular (as it should be) is because most people don't really even know who HB is.. they probably just hear the name, and picture some little mischievous imp pulling pranks, and write it off as kiddie junk. 'Tis a shame :(

as I do before/after watching a movie, I check my trailers folder :woot: man, the Hellboy II ones look great  still a few days to go, though

^Make sure you get plenty of people to watch it with you, believe me when I say it will be worth the wait, superb movie. Any other year this would have been movie of the year.

I love everything about the movie, except the whole relationship with Liz--because I really don't see it. It's not there in the comics, I mean, and so I don't like it when people try and make a non-romantic movie into some kind of love story. I don't know. It just kind of taints things for me.

Oh! And I also feel like Abe could be a bit stronger--like he should be able to hold his own in a fight.

Other than those two things, though, I'm really quite fond of it. And I recall thinking Kronen was a much stronger character in the movie than the comics, actually. Him not speaking added a darker element, I believe. And I think John Hurt is pretty much brilliant in any roll--but he made a very very good Bruttenholm. Was very good stuff. ::nods::

^I think its pretty clear that it was the studio who demanded the love story be in there, just to get more people, or women, to see the movie, saying that, I think GDT did very well with the relationship he did create.

Though I would have preferred it was a bit more like the comics were Hellboy and Liz are just friends.

^I figured as much, it's just such things frustrate me to no end.

What I mean is, I'm a girl, and if I wanted to see some kind of romantic crap, then I'd go see one of those terrible chick-flicks. And so I suppose I kind of take it as an insult--something personal. I don't know. Figure I didn't accidentally purchase tickets to Hellboy--I did so, with the hopes of seeing lots of action and the like, complete with paranormal innards tossed all about.

And so when the whole relationship deal was introduced to the mix, I felt compelled to give a weary sigh, on account that you know it was thrown in for the general public and all, for the reasons in which you've already stated.

But I do agree--del Toro did top-notch with what he had to toss in there. And otherwise, I do enjoy the film very much.

^I'm with SymbioteKal-El, I would have preferred it not being in there and being closer to the comics were Hellboy and Liz, though they care for each other, were just friends, it would have been awesome to see that.

But at the same time, the relationship that was created was sweet and entertaining to watch, even going into the 2nd movie, so GDT did very well considering.

Hellboy is a brilliant Hero Flick, one of the first new-ish (non-Superman era) ones I watched. To this day I love the film. GDT is amazing, he really brings things to films that no-one else can. And I love Ron Perlman, he's my favourite actor.

"If no-one else likes Hellboy, all us freaks have is each other" :hehe:

Maybe its a lack of memorable villain?

That's all I can come up with.

I know Rasputin is important in the comics, but for once in a long time, the hero was my attraction to this movie. As I've said before, the love story in this movie is my absolute favorite from all the comic book movies out there.

^I thought Rasputin, Kroenan, Samael, and to a lesser extent, Ilsa were great villains. They all served a seperate purpose that brought Hellboy to his destiny but in the end he made the right choice.

Now, if you are asking me, I'd say the villains from the sequel were slightly better, but the first movies villains were great as well, only in a different way.
