Why Isn't Joker's Real Name Joe Chill Instead of Jack Napier?

Here's a more accurate picture comparison too. Looks like the same character to me.

People need to realize that what happens in the movies does not necessarily dictate was is in the comic books. I don't even really bother with the countless idiots that come up to me after the first Nolan film and say, I though the Joker killed his parents?

Eh, I don't see it. I don't think that character was meant to be thought of as Bob the Goon at a younger age.

Besides, that guy in the first picture was of average height, I think. If I recall correctly, Bob the Goon was pretty short.

I haven't seen the film in awhile.

Bob was only slightly shorter than Nicholson.

time to get your glazzies checked:whatever:

The thing is I've never really been a fan of the 'Year 2' Joe Chill arc anyway, IMO it was the only thing wrong with 'Begins' - I prefer the killer of the Waynes to be anon; this way every villain and criminal Batman takes down could be that killer... thus meaning he can never stop his crusade.

IMVHO of course.

Honestly not to speak against the holy " Comics Canon " but i've always thought that would make a better concept for The Wayne's Killer.

I don't think Year 2 should be considered canon, but that is my humble opinion of course.

Okay, this has convinced me. It's Bob.

I think people are trying to compare the two actors' faces, which might lead one to conclude that it isn't Bob. I agree; the actors really don't look much alike.

The resemblance is all in the hat.

The name in the credits is likely just a result of the last-minute script changes.

C'mon. Just about everyman wore that style of hat in Batman '89.
It was to give it that timeless look they were going for. A mix of 1940s with modern '80s.

I've always thought it was Bob The Goon. We have to remember this film was shot in London, with lots of last minute script changes so I doubt finding a "perfect lookalike" to old Bob was much of a concern.

That wasn't Bob in the flashback, it was clearly Lawrence:joker:

I still say that isn't Bob. The cast list clearly said so. Until Burton confirm it, that isn't Bob. The lines & hat don't mean squat. It could be on anyone & it still not Bob.

And who is Lawrence, Mr. Socko? Lawrence Oliver? :p

I'll admit, I've never gotten why, out of all the changes that have been made in the translation of Batman to other mediums over the years, this one is so maligned.

Anybody want to shed some light, or what?

You don't remember Lawrence?

"Gentlemen! Let's broaden our minds! Lawrence?"

Oh, and on the hat thing, yeah everyone wore a similar style hat. But that is the EXACT same hat.

No, it's not. Bob's hat is black.

Other mugger's hat is grey. Not the same hat.

Dude just stop.

If half of us want to assume it's Bob then we will no matter how many screencaps you post .

This is getting to be a ridiculous argument for something that really doesn't matter anyhow.

You don't think it's Bob..? Fine great.

But everyone is going to interpret the film and it's characters however they want. Regardless what you say.

It is open to interpretation. And if you don't agree with my interpretation, that's fine. I will not stop pointing things out about this film and expressing my opinions with other fans. We are all entitled to express our opinions. I'm not trying to say everyone has to agree with me. To each his own. I'll never understand why some Batman fans refuse to believe that the other mugger is Joe Chill, because there are clues dropped in the film. But it doesn't really matter. It's fun to discuss it. But it doesn't matter. That's how strong this film is, because it still tells you the same story. You can't break this film. That's the weird part. One of the greatest things about this film is that everybody can put in their own interpretation. Tim Burton left things mysterious. Mystery is fun.

it may be vague as to if its bob but there is no evidence that it is meant to be joe chill. at all. none. no "clues dropped in the film".

go watch the special features from the latest 2 disc of batman 89. im sure you do in fact own it since you wouldnt make up your mind on the matter without having all available evidence right?

re listen to what tracey says about bob and his relationship with jack napier in the special features. come back on here and drop it cause its pretty funny after hearing what he has to say.

"go check it out."

Yes, there are clues dropped in the film that the other mugger is an adaption of the Joe Chill character in the comics. You just refuse to acknowledge it.

I've owned the 2 disc set since the first date they released it. He says that Bob is Jack Napier's right hand man. That's not news to me. That doesn't mean that was Bob in the scene taking place years before the current events where Bob is Jack's right hand man.
