Why Naruto?

Personal opinion really.

Action, character development, interaction, comedy.

It's kind hard to explain, really...

It's just a show that draws you in (personally speaking)

I just saw a couple more eps on CN. Those eps were great IMO. No flashbacks this time  It was the clone vs clone: Mine are better than yours and the ep before it. Are there more parts to the chunin exam?

I'll give them a shot when it's on tonight, I'm just looking for some positives about it to get me a bit jazzed for it.

Now, this maybe biased of me...

But you (you too, tsu!) should really check it out subbed. Watch it with out the edits, original voice acting, and you can just keep going.

It's up to epi 187 in Japan right now... so it's not like you have lots of stopping and starting and waiting... there is no such thing as "repeats" in Japan, so I've noticed. There's either no show that week, double eps to make up for a missed week, or just new eps, but in filler mode...

The flashbacks are what new watchers have the most trouble sittign through.

Honestly, I don't really liked subbed that much. I just don't feel any emotion or anything from the Japanese words. I think it has to do with the actual language barrier, but I've only been able to watch them when I absolutely HAD to.

The length of the series scares the crap out of me. Too many filler arcs. I remember RK was pretty lengthy and there were quite a few breather arcs but I don't thing it ever reached the 100 mark unless you count the movie and the OVAs. Also...I kinda gave up on the show after Zabuza bit the dust. Why do they let characters like Gaara live when "Never cuts twice" (yeah right) Zabuza is around? I watch it sparringly now. Not quite a Narutard ut not a hater of the series either. Just...the length

So I take it that Naruto's voice is less strident in Japanese? :p It'll take me awhile to watch all of them on the net. Would you suggest to pick up where I left off, or start back from the very begging?

...Hmm...I'd say watch the Hidden Sound story arc, around the Chuunin Exam part. Orochi's introduction to the series is where the real meat of the story is since other than Itachi, Orochi is the main bad guy. But I'm not really a fan, so I think you should let more experienced Naruto fans like oakzap recommend where you should start. Just avoid the fillers I guess

I got to after Orochi, after they were attacked when the guys were down, after they got better, to when they tried to open the scrolls then teamed up with some guy you was working for Orochi, and they got to the tower. About right there.

After you see the subbed episodes, if you still prefer dubbed; you'll officially be the first and only person alive to feel that way lol.
