The Dark Knight Why So Serious?

I agree. The marketing is top notch

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42_Entertainment
42 Entertainment (originally 4orty 2wo Entertainment) is a Seattle-based creator of alternate reality games (ARGs) founded by Jordan Weisman. It is known for running some of the highest-expose ARGs for big name companies, such as Microsoft.
Their two most famous ARGs are the I Love Bees promotion for Halo 2; and Year Zero, for the Nine Inch Nails album Year Zero. They are currently involved with the viral marketing campaigns for the upcoming films The Dark Knight and J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield.

Good stuff. I think it's great how big a deal it was that TDK wasn't at SDCC, then this happens across the street.

Yeah....a good Bat day fellas!

The viral marketing continued and it was great! Looking forward to seeing this throughout the year.

The HD teaser is much better than the bootleg cause we can hear and see the cool effect much more clearly and the music in the background was awesome with that clarity.

Why wouldn't it? The film is more than a year away, some fans are just overly greedy and it sickens me- no offense to some.

you think that since the viral site is called why so serious that in the pic joker asks rachel: why so serious?

So???? Who the fck cares? Um, only some of the constant complainers on here:

"I got Joker's laugh, I got Joker's voice, I got a new picture that shows the Joker on the side- but WB sucks because I didn't get new footage!"

Now, might just be me- but, doesn't that sound greedy?

Hell, we got as much information about the film as the Transformers teaser, yet I don't remember them *****ing about all they got. And later, not saying actual, when it said it wasn't footage from the film- everyone didn't moan going "show me footage!!!"

But, hey- some people just want to complain.

i think harvey/two face says "starting tonight pple will die"

then joker says "i'm a man of my word hahahah"

just based on that it sounds more like eckhardt than ledger during that line....just my 2 cents

I don't think that's Harvey--didn't sound remotely like Eckhart. Then again, Joker doesn't sound like Heath either, so who knows?

Okay, I had to go out when the countdown was at 7 hours, and I get home and the site's offline. Can someone fill me in on all that I've missed?

Basically, the people online did puzzles and the people at San Diego did challenges, working together to get locations and answers, at the end, we gots the TDK teaser trailer. :woot:

Well, your first four paragraphs were an extended complaint.

For general audiences:

- A new Batman movie is coming? FCKING AWESOME!!!
- We hear the Joker speak and his laugh? FCKING AWESOME!!!

They don't go "that was horrible, we should have seen Joker!" "That was horrible, we should have got footage!" No, they're HUMBLE and go "yes another Batman film! And the Joker sounds bad ass!!!"

Amen

Wb Is Making Movie Marketing History. Period.

EXACTLY!

I cant think of anything in my whole life with a marketing campaign like this. Its just sheer genius. Anyone who is complaining is just moronic and selfish. We are getting A LOT for a movie that still has a WHOLE YEAR to come out.

The months leading up to December are gonna be interesting..... :woot:

How cool would it be that all of this viral marketing is incorporated into the movie's joker history?

It's like a prequel to The Dark Knight.

exactly. And if they DID see the Joker, unlike us fans, by the time they see the movie they would react "gee, i've seen this guy for a year now and they want his introduction to be suspenseful and suprising?"

Since you all agree with each other that it's all wonderful; who are the selfish/thoughtless/insensitive people who are causing you so much distress?

That really was something that I have never heard of before, what they did with the viral marketing. At least to that degree. I saw the pics and I never imagined the scale of what it turned out to be. And whoever complains about the WB or the teaser is just an ass at this point. I mean, I don't know what else to say to those people. The movie is a year away, they are still filming the damn thing, what EVERYONE said what they most wanted in the teaser (Joker's laugh/voice) we got. And a pic as well. Stop *****ing already. You make all Batman fans look bad with the constant whining and complaining. I mean wasn't it reported from the Almighty King Jett that TDK would have no prescence whatsoever at SDCC, and it turns out we have a whole mob of Jokers out there running around the place. Things like that haven't even been done before, I would go as far to say it stole the show. What more do you want?

this is just your opinion. you dont knwo if this is what they would think.

:o

insults,insults and insults.

i dont like the teaser. can i get some respect?

One question, sorry if its been answered already. I'm fairly up to date now on what I missed onilne. But what's been happening over in San Diego?

Well, **** being humble then. The teaser itself is weak. I don't care what response it garners from the audience, its weaksauce. People are excited to have another Batman movie, thats great, I am too. The whole viral marketing thing is genius, I love it. The new picture is good too. Another "not-so-great-angle" of The Joker, but it shows the Joker without giving him all away, I get it and I like it. Apart from the laugh, the teaser is underwhelming. I never said I needed 5 minutes of footage or any actual scene to look at, but to see the Joker in motion even for a split second would have been better. After all you go through on the whysoserious site, the teaser is disappointing.

Um, no to see the Joker in motion would have sucked big time!

You don't get it- they have to save that, if they showed that now it wouldn't be "new" anymore, it would become old...

It's the NEW angle, we've seen Batman- now we see the Joker.

They show us Joker- they RUIN that playing card.

Just like Transformers, you need to keep it under wraps.

Many fans don't understand this because they're greedy and want EVERYTHING! General audiences, you have to work up a different way... similarly to why comic-con has exclusive footage for films. Fans, it's okay... general audiences- you ruin the mystery and that's dumb as hell.

does anyone else have a pic of the Joker masks people got?

- Jow

Agreed - Bad SM3 memories are associated with too much too soon.
