Why the Hate for this Movie?

I wont post them all but but some of that of info (to which this time i wont be finding all the links)

Dragonball Z had 61 million fans as of 2002 and by 2007 was over 75 million.

The DBZ game franchise has sold more than all the Marvel/DC games put together.

The show was getting 3 million viewers per episode it was the most watched show on cable.

The DVD boxsets far exceed all the Marvel/DC cartoon DVDs put together.

Worldwide it is searched for over twice as much as Batman, Spiderman etc.

well, whenever (if ever) you do find those links please post them.

but I'm pretty sure marvel's and dc's comics have always sold better in the states than db/z. and I know dbz was pretty big when it was still showing new episodes. (back when superheroes wher considered uncool by the general public) but since gt went on air db/z fanbase has slowly dide down. (even thogh there's still allot of us) and since this new comic movie craze started, superheroes like spiderman and batman have been bigger than ever.

so, while dbz was on top for a time, dc/marvel is whats on top now.

another thing to take into consideration is that even though DB has a lot of fans worldwide it doesn't many fans that are over 40.....on the other hand the likes of Batman and Spider-Man has fans worldwide that are 60 years and older.

1 did the 1st time i got info from alot of sites like youtube, google trends, vgchartz etc
well, if you find them again...please post them.

Well there were only the 42 volumes of manga and they wouldn't have sold well because by the time the manga came out the anime was done and everyone already knew what happened.

And the DBZ fanbase has actually gone up in recent years because when the show ended thats when the games came out, then there was the DBZ movies that came out.

And on youtube its very popular.

I still think it was at it's biggest when it was still on the air. I didn't say it had a small fanbase, jus smallER.

but my point is that it's not bigger than dc/marvel. (atleast, not anymore.)

There was also a bunch on the VHS tapes selling more than 25 million copies in US. Selling 3 Billion worth of toys, being the biggest selling manga etc.

But this is the 1 i will bother to find coz its the most impressive.

lol well it wouldn't be bigger than the whole 2 superhero industrys but together.

But individually it was.

JoseMP was the one saying that DB was bigger than Batman + Spider-Man.

Bullza, i can't see the video you posted.

You guys can quote all the little obscure facts, numbers, and figures you want.

But the fact is all those VHS tapes, DVD's, and video games. Those were all directly from the anime or directly based on the anime. They essentially were the anime property.

This is not the anime or manga property.

Obviously but so far the Dragonball franchise has been successful in every type of media such as Manga, Anime, Toys, Games, Home video so i dont see why the movie should fail.

I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. Just because it's been successful with DVDs, toys, and video games doesn't mean the movie will be successful.

It's fan base is over seventy five milliooooooooonnnnnnnnnn!!!

It's over 9000!!!!!!!!!!! :cmad:

I like how this is under the assumption that ALL DB/DBZ/DB GT fans are all excited for this movie. It is certainly possible that Dragonball has a certain popularity throughout the world, but it is all for not as this is a huge stray from the original source material that has been bastardized by Hollywood.

I do find it coincidental that Josemp accuses "Americans" for not understanding how the world thinks and that we consider everything we do to be the greatest thing in the world, yet he defends this movie, Dragon Ball Evolution, which is a checklist of American/Hollywood standards.

Also in a fun little tangent about Dragonball fans from around the world I met some french people who were just as disgusted about the movie as I was. Yet my glee was fulfilled the second I was able to break the news that Chow Yung Fat was Master Roshi, (you see in France Roshi has a different name, something like Mr. Hermit) My new French friend put her hands against her face and began saying "oh please no" in French over and over again. (Now I know what being a French rapist is like Ba dum tish) It did however seem to confirm a point, I have never met anybody who has or is seriously defending this movie. Everyone I know who wants to see it wants to get drunk and high then scream at the movie opening night.

Fans aren't excited for it as much as they want to see it out of curiousity. I'm tempted to say that little marketing will be a good thing because then people will go, "I need to see this." Even if it's because they think it's going to be so bad, that's still 10 dollars added to the amount of money they get. (Don't make a joke about how that's all they're going to get. :whatever: ) I've already gotten 10 people to see it on the Wednesday it comes out. :)

I think it's safe to say that most fans are disappointed with this adaptation.
