Screen caps alone are enough to tell you the difference between the quality in the special effects.
They were also pretty boring.
:pal: I take it you liked transformers?

The picture you posted of Goku doesn't look like an action scene or one that would be using special effects. The closest we've seen is that one where it looks like he's using the force, but I don't think that's enough to judge the effects.

but, it isn't a matter on special effects it is the overall palette that the film is given. Movies like Sin City, 300 and Sky Captain utilized the green screen and blue screen to create a fantasy dream like look to it. The argument was that Dragon Ball was by the same special effects company so the look would be similar. I am pointing out it is not.

We haven't seen any officially completed screen caps for this film. We've only seen on set photography.

...so you are saying those screen caps are not final product? non of those scans count?... you serious? You really think they are going to show those pictures to the public in Japan and then give them a different product in the end?

Well alert me when those pictures come up.

Transformers was alright, but it was more entertaining, 300, Sin City were just really boring.

And how can you compare a post production HD outdoor picture from 300, to a early magazine promo image that was released while SFX were being done.

And id rather it not be like Sky captain because that was an awful film and deserved to bomb.

There were early 300 production photos and the final result was a general concept of what we saw in the theaters.

It seems that "Dragonball" went for a similar route in the color department as "Speed Racer". (At least in this scene)

Yeah because Dragonball was such a terrible movie and hated by fans and critics

So what is this a game where you take one picture of a sfx scene and we put it against a pic of a scene with no sfx involved at all?

Because all that proves is that special effects scenes exist. Which is kinda obvious.

db looks like the set of a power rangers episode.

Yeah I remember that one. The power rangers episode directed by Stanley Kubrick with a 500mil budget. We won`t see episodes of that ilk again. Oh those long lost days of youth. lol.

C`mon they are set pics. Set pics look crap. If set pics looked good they would use the behind the scenes footage and set pics for the finished movie.

While the other 2 did nothing special.

300 didn't deserve to make half that much.

they look like fake rocks

The quality looks poor like there was very little attention put into it. Sure you could say they could take care of that in post production, but I highly doubt it with how expensive it would be.

That wasn't the argument though. The argument was that DB would be utilizing the same style as 300 or Sin City. It isn't and I chose a still to show that. That also proves the point cause 300 was utilizing sfx during the whole movie, db is not so it is nothing like 300 in the sense they are enhancing the shots.

Though a set piece might be insignificant it is vital for the realism of the film. No matter what you say, if you are making a live action film you are making it realistic to a certain degree. The enviroment adds to that quality in the movie. If you are fine with that in a movie sure go ahead but it is still valid to point out the flaws in a set.

yeah, the set is important for setting the atmosphere and mood of a movie. if it looks cheap then it detracts from the overall experience even if it's just a background. not to be overly mean or negative but when i saw that pic of Chatwin, i looked at the background and could imagine that same set being reused for a future Flintstones movie.

So now your comparing a HD picture of a close up rock, to a rock in the background from a moving trailer that we got low quality pictures of?
