yeah, the set is important for setting the atmosphere and mood of a movie. if it looks cheap then it detracts from the overall experience even if it's just a background. not to be overly mean or negative but when i saw that pic of Chatwin, i looked at the background and could imagine that same set being reused for a future Flintstones movie.

The quality looks poor like there was very little attention put into it. Sure you could say they could take care of that in post production, but I highly doubt it with how expensive it would be.

Well then you missed that whole part about the set piece. It is not why I hate this movie though but a small observation I made in that picture.

I'm confused. This movie cost 100+ million to make, and yet you say that everyone who worked on this film (illustrators, costume designers, set designers) were lazy and put very little attention or effort into anything (which is ridiculous). So if that is the case, where did all that money go?

Well doesn't look like it was in the sets. Maybe that AWESOME piccolo outfit.

There is a difference between looking like a set piece of the flintstones and it actually looking like a wasteland.
The visual look I am getting from that shot is

a very hokey cheap set that doesn't look quality for a production like this.

vs something like

which doesn't detract from the scene but enhances it.

The picture you posted of Goku doesn't look like an action scene or one that would be using special effects. The closest we've seen is that one where it looks like he's using the force, but I don't think that's enough to judge the effects.

Sorry - the force wouldnt allow itself to get anywhere near this crap.

i hope you're not talking about the Force Unleashed game. i downloaded the demo and if the game is better than the demo then it should turn out to be a damn awesome video game.
