will a proper hellblazer film EVER be made ?

Constantine was great. Deff my fav Reeves film. If that movie wasn't anything like the books, then i dont really care to see a movie more in line with them. The film was fine the way it was, didn't need to draw anything else from the comic books.

you're right, it WAS great. im just saying that a proper hellblazer film or show that shows how constantine really is in the comics would be even greater.

so anyone got any of their own casting choices ??

misha collins lol. his character in supernatural was based (appearance-wise) on john contantine, plus he's just awesome.

If you had read the comics, you wouldn't be saying this. Comic Constantine is a much more compelling character. And is just plain fun.

But yea, the movie wasn't bad. Gets too much hate.

I said this in the other thread, but I think the best way to go about doing a Hellblazer film would be to make it a lower-budget British horror film. Set in England, shoot over here, and get a Brit cast. I think with a grubby London aesthetic would be far more atmospheric than Los Angeles gloss, and would feel more authentic to the tone of the comics.

As far the plot goes, I actually wouldn't try to go into exploring Constantine's origins, or go too large-scale with something involving Nergal or epic battles with all Heaven and Hell. I'd scale it right back, into a standalone horror tale of people plagued by some demonic/supernatural occurence. You spend some time establishing that, and Constantine is brought in at the start of the second act as the enigmatic figure you might have a solution.

In terms of casting, I'd go for Paddy Considine. The guy is one of the most dependably great actors working today, and he's currently in that stage in his career where he can play the lead in smaller films or be a supporting character in bigger films, one pivotal role shy of taking his career to the next level. Constantine could be the perfect role: even the names match up.

I actually like the Paddy Considine idea. Very good, underrated actor. Really good in Hot Fuzz and Bourne Ultimatum.

He also did a Jason Statham movie I can't find based on a famous crime novel series I forget the name of.

I believe the film you're thinking about is Blitz. ;)

For me, his definitive film remains Dead Man's Shoes. His role in that was a towering, powerhouse performance.

maybe not for a movie, but i think it better lends itself to a tv show format.

Couldn't agree more. Do a pilot for BBC 4, if it's successful then start it on BBC 1 on Saturday Nights. It could be like the post-watershed Doctor Who or Sherlock. Something along those lines...
Oh and Marc Warren for John Constantine... Its the role he's been born to play.

Actually, The characters owned by WB so if there was going to be a tv series, it'd most likely be on CW... Hmp. Crap.

It might still work, look at Supernatural, the only thing is that it wouldn't be able to have any nudity yet i don't think that contributes to the story

Or the swearing, drug usage, adult themes and general balls to the wall, **** you attitude that makes Hellblazer what it is.
Also, if it was a CW show I'm pretty sure John'd more than likely have to lose his silk cut habit... And that's just stupid.

Many of those things could be kept, supernatural had some of that stuff

im starting to think rhys ifans would be a pretty good choice .

Paddy Considine might have to be ruled out. I was reading an interview with him where he says he's going to focus more on directing than acting, because he's never thought of himself as a good actor. He says he wouldn't totally rule out acting again, though, so long as the part was right. And he once said his dream role would have been Wolverine, so maybe he's enough of a comic fan to be inrigued by the role of John Constantine.

That's a shame. Considine's a ****ing immense actor!

I liked the movie alot but I never read the comics.

Did they change anything essential?

It was a good enough movie. If it had just ben Keanu Reeves as a paranormal investigator in LA, the film would have been better received. But it was nothing like the Constantine of the comics.

I could see this as a series on Starz or HBO, otherwise it might end up like the Dresden Files.

I've wanted to see Blitz with Paddy Considine, not sure if it ever got released here.

Dark gritty cable series would be a great format for Constantine/Hellblazer, and on TV with like Starz for instance you can go with an unknown. That is how you get success stories like the late, great Andy Whitfield. Unfortunately sometimes it turns out like Camelot and Jamie Campbell Bower who granted did have a couple significant movie credits pre-Camelot.

Marc Warren would be another inspired choice, but also a risky one.

If Hellblazer went to TV instead of cinema, I'd like to see it be another BBC/HBO co-production.

i feel this thread is in need of a bump.

how would you all feel about kiefer sutherland playing him ? atleast in his younger "lost boys " days. you can't say you dont atleast see a resemblance.
