Will Hans Zimmer Score Superman?

Good choice. His work on Inception was fantastic and I love his theme for the Joker.

Not bad.

But no Giacchino. :csad:

Love this news. It onlt says this will be different *crosses fingers* and will hopefully be nothing like the Williams score. Time to hear something new for once people.

True, but still, I am a happy man. I like Zimmer as a composer. A LOT. I try to discover some of his earlier works or the ones that are not that famous. I am currently listening to the "Beyond Rangoon" OST and it has some great themes in it. I hope he creates something VERY distinctive for Superman...

Well, Zimmer has made sweeping epic scores along with quirky, weird ones, so it's anyone's guess as to how it's going to come out. I was sitting back hoping he'd score GL, but meh.

Zimmer better come up with something exceptional. Dynamic, uplifting. Put that brass to use. Put the broody tonal drones away.

I'm not saying make a score that sounds like "Chevaliers de Sangreal," but man, Zimmer, if you could bring the same level of brilliant awesomeness to Superman as you did to that piece, then I think we'll be in business.

I like Zimmer, but I hope he comes up with something good for the theme.

We have to look at this way. What is the main theme that Zimmer came up with for Nolan's Batman movies? It was basically the "mollossus" theme which sticks out as the defining theme for Nolan's batman as it was used in both Begins and TDK in some sort of form.

And this theme was actually created 16 years earlier before Batman Begins for "Black Rain".

If you don't believe me, just listen here, its the exact same theme, note for note!

So i'm curious as to what he is going to come up with for Superman. I have a sneaky feeling he might reuse something from one of his previous movies.

Well I hope so. Unfortunately we didn't get anything that new with Batman Begins and TDK.
We got a 16 year old reused theme! I should know, since Black Rain is one of my favourite movies, and as soon as I saw Batman Begins, I remembered the theme clearly!

Listen here, Not exactly "new" in my opinion!

So if you mean "new" as in "completely new" and never heard before, I certainly hope so. But I hope its not "new" as in "reusing" one of his old themes from a different movie and then hoping noone notices!

I hope he creates something from scratch that will hold up decades from now, and not just cheat again by reusing an old theme from one of his classic scores!

then again, Zimmer loves to reuse again and again and again, just watch this

Aintitcoolnews has also the scoop and they have 2 pieces of music by Zimmer, for "Backdraft". Zimmer needs to remember his old self - this is a very good example:

Best possible choice.

God bless him, he's a talented guy and good on him for being successful, but I don't want to hear his score and go, "Oh, well, typical Zimmer." For starters, I hope his Superman score resembles in no way anything he's done for Batman.

My only concern is that Zimmer is working a lot of tentpole movies. I hope they don't all end up sounding alike.

You're already too late!
you're a few years late in realizing that! Zimmer's being sounding alike for more than 10 years.

Just watch this and cringe at how much Zimmer has reused and thats not even counting the blatant Black Rain to Batman Begins/TDK theme.

here is the Black Rain theme which he reused note for note for TDK/Batman begins.

If he can reuse themes constantly, I guess for Superman, he's probably going to cherry pick from one of his older scores.

A lot of composers reuse bits of their scores, James Horner is another example, and even Williams has been guilty of it too. But Zimmer, Jablonsky etc take the word "Reuse" to a new level!

Even Elfman ripped of Bernard Hermann for the 1989 Burton Batman movie theme. Making a mockery of the word "reuse" or "inspired"!

I was shocked!
here it is, the definitive batman theme was made in the 50s, before even the campy tv show theme was made! How funny is that!

Eh, Elfman was inspired and used it in the intro. The most distinguished parts of the Batman theme were still his.

To be honest I'm not concerned with who's copying who (especially if it's themselves). I just want an identifiable theme that screams Superman.

i couldn't be anymore happier with Hans Zimmer scoring Superman. i think he did a fantastic job with BB/TDK and outdid himself with Inception. i've been a fan of his for a while so him hopping aboard this movie is excellent news!!!

to bad that he will not devote all hes time to superman since he is also doing the batman score.
true but it seems that he's able to juggle multiple projects at the same time. this year he's done 4 movies, 1 show...and he's working on scores for 7 movies releasing next year.

I'm loving this news, his Inception score is the best of the year.

Han Zimmer is an exceptional composer and I'm glad Chris Nolan tapped him to score the new Superman movie. However, he will probably need to use the John Williams' Superman theme at least once, because that theme is synonymous with Superman in all the available media out there. Even in SR, you can't remember any score in the movie except for Williams'. It'd be easier to find a new actor to replace Christopher Reeve than replacing that classic theme.

^No he want "need to."

Get over that damn score already. This is a new Superman movie, after the tired Superman Returns it would be a mistake to keep that score.

Honestly...there isn't a single memorable tune I recall from Inception. Loved his work on Pirates though...that's something I can remember.

The Superman theme from the DCAU is iconic as well.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be called Superman: Man Of Steel instead of just Superman?
